Operating systems
1.
2. Operating systems can be found on most electronic
device as it’s the software that controls messages
sent to and from devices. Devices such as SAT
NAV and Mobile Phones also have OS just like a
personal computer.
3. The OS helps to mange the jobs sent to the
processor. A processor can only manage one job at
a time and so the OS controls the jobs sent to the
computer in sends thousand of jobs a second
which makes it appear like the processor is multi
tasking.
4. Another way the OS controls jobs sent to the CPU
is buffers if a series of jobs a sent to the processor
at once they are sent to the buffer which holds the
jobs till the CPU can manage them. This in effect
slows the rate of jobs down to one the processor
can manage.
5. The OS controls several jobs besides the processor
the jobs it does are:
Processor management
Memory management
Device management
Storage management
User Interface
6. Virtual memory is space on a hard drive that is
used to store jobs that are open but are not
currently being used these means by moving it on
to the HDD the computers R.A.M is freed up and
the computer can run several jobs more effectively.
7. Drivers are installed on to the OS However with
more current OS the driver are Pre-installed the
driver is software that allows the computer to
communicate better to the device that are
connected to it. Without it the device wouldn’t
connect to the computer properly.
8. The computers OS has a management system with
it such as FAT and NTFS (know NTFS is more
commonly used on the computer C drive) the files
are often stored in fragmented section all over the
discs.
9. The Gui is one of the things in computers that has
changed constantly over the years from using
optical mice to using a touch gesture. It is also
useful as it makes accessing file easier as well as
making it easier to run programs.
10. The allocation table is the way in which the
computer stores files upon the hard drive. This
put on the HDD when it is formatted it to a
format such as FAT32 or NTFS or other such
formats. NTFS is a common on windows this
splits file in to segments and stores them on the
HDD these are not always stored one after
another and so are store all over the Platte.
11. Is the part of the computer where the connected
devices are controlled and are installed by thing
called drivers it also controls the buffers and
queues which are used if the processor cannot
control with the amount of work.
12. The graphical user interface is the part of the
computer OS that allows the user to work with
image to use devices rather than text commands
such as Microsoft DOS. It make the computer
easier to use as there is not the requirement of the
user to remember all the command codes to
access all of the files. however in most windows
OS and in Linux there is still a way to use the
CLI(command line interface) for those who still
want to use it.
