GREEN SPARTANS
DETHRONE HARDHATS
Seven years of continued domination,
Team Engineering of Unit IV loses its crown
to the growling Spartans of Unit V as they
grossed golds shrinking the Hardhat’s legacy.
With much determination and burning desire
to win, Unit V played just and dominated the
games in the Intramural Meet 2015, neglecting
fear and garnering awards that overtook five
other units who competed to be the next
successor of the crown.
Unit V, who conquered the year’s sports fest,
reaped 14 golds, 13 silvers, and 7 bronzes from
the different genre of sports present in the
event. The reigning unit consisted of the College
of Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Science in
Hotel Management and Bachelor of Science in
Industrial Technology (day).
Amidst the threats of losing the year’s title,
Unit V remained vigorous as they smashed every
opponent and marked the game with their own
sweat, claiming and winning it.
Green Spartans dominating the battles,
exceeded Unit IV having 13 golds, 10 silvers,
and 16 bronzes, and Educators of Unit I having
10 golds, 11 silvers, and 10 bronzes, which made
them place second and third, respectively.
UnitIVbecamethemainperilforUnitVasthey
went along the games. Having the dominating
team of last year as the main opponent is a hard
task for the unit, but with their might, they were
proclaimed champions making the Hardhats
lose a gold towards another legacy.
Unit V earned respect as they showed the
campus that they ruled this year. Having the
crown for the year’s title is never much of a
pleasure but of safekeeping too, as they will
defend their title for the next battle, with the
students buzzing around asking, “Maka defend
sad kaha sila sa ilahang pagka daog parehas sa
Engineering?”
The pressure is there even when the next
season of game plays will take place in 2016’s
meet, but Unit V is certain in winning the next
year’s season.
The battle does not end, and the clash of
abilities continue as intramural meet 2015
leaves a mystery of who will be the next heir of
the throne. It could be any team, it could be the
reigning team, or it could be your team.

Cuts and bumps were gained by both teams

Intrams for Interns
Ever wonder what Intramurals is for? One word.
STUDENTS!
Yes, every bit of it is all for the students.
Starting from all the sporting events to the nuke-
and-cranny. It is made for us all. Its this time of the
year when we chill-out, not worry about the term
papers to be passed and exhale the negativity of
school pressure. But have we given time to ponder
on the thought that OJT students got no time to
taste the week long meet because there off to
work?
Every students dream is to finish school and
savor the things that the world has to offer. To
roam as if you just got out of prison and enjoy the
things we didn’t have growing up. Yep! Those are
my kind of dreams.
Internship is part of any student’s curriculum
where they are given practical training under
supervision of such course. Excitement is felt
among students especially seniors, when the time
comes, they are halfway to the end of college life
and halfway to the real world.
Its quite hard when the meet comes and there
we are inside the office working out buts out.
Damn Nostalgia! That exciting feeling we get from
past friends, a feeling commonly felt by alumni
and trainees everytime we go back to this annual
festivity.
Now I have a question for you trainees: Are
you going to risk your hours of work to hang out
with your friends and experience one more time
the feeling of being a student? Or are you going to
sacrifice that once in a lifetime moment to insure
your future?
No words can describe how excited we inters
are for our commencement ceremony. But it is a
matter of choice and chance. A chance to witness,
participate and enjoy the activities. And a choice
to leave responsibilities for the pleasure in which
may lack time in completing the needed hours of
internship.
Butdespiteitall,I’mstillastudentlikeeveryone
else. The only difference is that i need go to work
instead of going to class. Rendering my hours in
the company instead of going to school.
We are on the same ship, part of the same crew.
But before we leave our alma mater, let us cherish
the moment of being a student. A take it or leave it
moment. Make your choice interns because i have
chosen mine.

S
upreme and superior- these words really help us figure out what
Team Engineering really is every time we huddle about Intramural
Meet. It has been proven and tested all over the years that they are
more than deserving to bring those titles and be considered as eminent
onesastheynailedtheirnamesonthewalloffame.Itisindeedundeniable
that this illustrious squad engraved a legacy and marked history in
intramural as they owned the spotlight and conveyed the appellation
of being the champions for eight consecutive years. Fantastic, isn’t it?
However, just like any other teams could have, their fate has been twisted.
IntramuralMeet2015wasaprestigiousone.Theweeklongfriendrivalry
painted joyful faces and brought forth unbounded felicity. Nevertheless,
there was a melancholy which clustered many attentions. For eight
succeeding years of being the champions, the Hardhats had ceased their
supremacy in this year’s intrams as the Green Spartans blossomed their
way to the top and grabbed the crown of being the “Intramural 2015 Over-
all Champion.” Consequently, these matters burst out various questions.
“Why? Of all the years that they’ve been holding the title, why was it now?
What happened to them?”
“Rebuilding is the main reason why we did not make it this year.” said
Dr. Nolasco K. Malabago, the Dean of The College of Engineering. Being
one of the best teams in the history of intramural, Team Engineering,
composed of CE, ME, IE, ECE and EE, has the most number of players
who were qualified to play in the higher meets such as SCUAA during the
previous years. Unfortunately, with the newly implemented policy by the
PE Department that states: a player who already played at any higher
meet shall no longer be allowed to play in the Intramural, Unit IV really had
a hard time to collect new frenetic players and build back their tenacious
team.
Unlike the past years, student-coaches were prohibited this intramural.
Following the newly implemented rules, Team Engineering cannot hire
anymore student-coaches from the higher years to manipulate every
sport, which was their usual technique during the previous years. Every
game requires the presence of the coach, but because they only have
11 instructors in the Engineering Department and some of these are
only part-timers, it was a formidable burden to them to manage each
sport event. In result, there were some games that automatically won
by default by their rivals such as Sepak Takraw which might give them a
chance to grip gold but they deprived to conquer it because of the certain
happenstance.
The new make-overs of Intramural 2015 together with its rules and
regulations really made great twist and turn on its upshot. However, the
Hardhats still did an impressive game and stood up as the Over-all 1st
Runner-up garnering 13 gold medals.
The battle for fame and greatness is over. The final outcome was
manifested by each respective unit. Life is full of ups and downs, so as
sports. Team Engineering may be dethroned, but their remarkable legacy
and fighting spirit remained unbroken. There might be some obstructions
along their way but behind their downfall is a spark of a new and hopeful
beginning.

PERSPECTIVE
CHARYMAR ESTRADA
The organizers seem to don’t have
the unity in shaping the whole
program.
Drive It In: Now or Never Spending my Intramural week in the school
for the whole length is really a great experience.
I, as the member of the school publication and a
student,isobligetoattendandorwitnessthewhole
event. But for the three years of witnessing this
event, I have realized that there is a great difference
between the numbers of students during the day
and the night events. Then I asked myself, what’s
the matter between these events? Could it really be
the students’ fault why we see lesser people during
the day than the night? Or could it just be how the
events are organized?
Some of us maybe just ignored this fact.
Intramural Meet is all about Sports events, but
why does it seemed to be hidden under these night
events. How could we appreciate the games and
many other sports if only those who have slight
interest attend on the games?
The crowd, composing of the students, outsiders
and many other people wanting to witness the
intrams, could really affect how the intramural
meet would be. Imagine the games without the
cheerers. Would it really make the athletes and the
crowds feel the heat of the game?
Well, we all know that some of us really don’t
have the interest in watching games and sporty
events. However, how could we say that the
intramural meet would be successful enough if only
few students attend on it? Guess it only took 35%
of the student population could be seen on daytime
and the worst; a lot of them just get in the school
and after a while go out with disgusted faces. The
night events are just some of the ways to make the
intramural more colorful, but how come that the
students are driven more into these programs than
what we ought to see? Could it be that there wasn’t
anything interesting during the day events?
Thenighteventsaretrulywaytoogoodindriving
the crowd in. But why can’t they do it during the day
time? In fact, having nightly events are dangerous
enough for the students to go home late at night
even if we could say that we’re old enough to handle
ourselves. These things are sort of the neglected
ones because they continuously happen every year.
The organizers seem to don’t have the unity
in shaping the whole program. On the first place,
they should have the good communication before,
during and after the event. The students are like
being pressed in choosing whether what do they
really wished to attend, the games or the night
events, where in fact, there should only be one goal,
the games.

An event wouldn’t be successful
without its spectators. Yeah,
SPECTATORS! And who do you think is
responsible for this?
Know Your Role, We Matter
Have you been out this intramurals? Probably,
you were able to figure out the slacks and
predisposition of the ambience if you’ve been.
The weeklong standoff could have been more of
what we do expected, of course, Intramural always
comes with varieties of entertainment. However, it
isn’t that festive.
If you had taken a stroll the past week inside
the campus, sure you’ll end up like one of those
people who kept talking about how the event lacks
the atmosphere. If it wasn’t because of the nightly
events, we wouldn’t be able to see our grounds
flooded by students. That raises the question, ‘are
we only up for this?’ No. We are not those kinds, are
you?
An event wouldn’t be successful without its
spectators. Yeah, SPECTATORS! And who do
you think is responsible for this? “Hundreds” is
nothing compared to our overall populace, which
is “thousands.” Student’s participation plays a
vital role in every event. Indeed, “the more, the
merrier.” We ought to participate in every event the
school had for us. We belong to a team. We should
at least be there sitting, cheering and making
noises; showing our supports and be the crowd.
Intramural is all about the cheers, recreational
sports, matches, and contests among the walls of
the institution.
It is about a team. But, where were you at
those times? Don’t point your struggles with
school requirements as an excuse, other schools’
Intramural either. Your teacher might be playing the
villain in your story for intending requirements to
be done on the same week, or your alluring friends
dragging you to school hopping. Yet, a day at our
school was that hard?
Intrams is our break, not from school but from
books, photocopies, blackboards, or monitors.
It is the time to be out-of-door. That is, to inspirit
the meaning of Intramural. The organizers had
struggled pretty much to let your toxics out. Nightly
events? Oh! They were made to make it more
enticing.
Youcouldnotputtheblametothepeoplebehind
the event if it wasn’t what you had expected. It is
you who turned to be the problem. You people who
didn’t show up unless you heard how fascinating it
may be, and who simply don’t care about the school
affairs. Student like you, who did not understand
the essence of such event so, stop making excuses.
It only takes time management! Don’t be anti-
social. Complain not about how dispirited the affair
was, instead get up on your feet, bring your squad
and be there next time. Draining it maybe, but it’s
worth the sweat.

T
he battle was already over. The clash of
spikes, dashes, and shots from the players
made it intense has ended. On the last day
of the weeklong activity, the assumption was
clarified as the officiating body announced the
winners. The heart pounding moment breaks
as unit V enunciated to be the champion for
Intramurals 2015. Their passion resembles the
vigor, and competence of unit V, for surviving
and attaining major number of wins: garnering
14 gold medals that took a leap and surpass
units IV and I (first and second runner up).
It is a breakthrough to count, the success of
CAS and COT (BSIT and BSHM) as they nailed
their name in CTU’s hall of fame. In fact, it is just
this year that the two departments have merged
to compose unit V since, Marine Engineering was
no longer in CTU-main. This promulgates strong

collaboration that became their foundation
to reach the paramount. “There is a great
chemistry between BSIT and CAS that made it
through,” asserted Dr. Edwin Pilapil, Dean of
College of Arts and Sciences. This paved way, to
uplift their spirits and won various athletics and
sports category like in volleyball, arnis (women),
and 5k meter run.
As the quote goes along, behind the
mountains of success, there are always valleys
of failure. This is the truth behind the success
of Unit V. They have also encountered different
endeavors and challenges that obstructed their
pathway towards the victor. To include, players
exerted strenuous workouts and trainings done
together by their respective coaches. However,
in the tip of unit V, hard work have written a
remnant of success. “It only takes trust for the
athletes to win through their talent, capability,
and passion; it’s a matter of motivation.” These
were the staggering lines by Dr. Romanico A.
Loremia as he was asked the secret of their
winning.
All hail the champion in this year’s intramural.
Though every unit has made their extent
to win only one spirit had outshine – unit V.
Nevertheless, it is a real point that everything
changes and it is upon to them to make the
change. It will be a change to maintain and
exceed their vigor to win again or to change their
bliss of being champion. It only depends. For
now, the trail they have made was impressive
to prove that unit V can cross the challenges
and proceed were the trophy is. It is not the
groupings that count but the motivation of
players to trust themselves and win.

Everybody expects to have fun
but it seems that the headway has
stumbled, the body shattered down
and the anticipation of each student
has blown apart.
Broken Expectations
Gone are the days of Intramural yet it feels
that the head of the students are exhausted,
conceivably because of the profound warmth of
the sunlight which was then gradually encircled
with the muddy darkness that came about to
temperate streaming of rain. Notwithstanding,
when we talk about Intramural, deafening
whoops and shouts from different participating
units must be grasped, boosted up with various
activities in order to let the students enjoy the
entire duration of the Intramural without stress
and exams. But what have we witnessed last
week? It seemed that we were in the highest
part of a night blowout wherein giggles are not
permissible to rule the whole night.
As I walked along the way and watched the
exclusive event inside the campus, I could not
stop myself but to assimilate the last year’s
intramural when the outermost cooperation of
the students was jam-packed in every corner of
the campus. The hoots of the people yelling for
their teams are as decisive as fireworks booming
around the university. Different astonishments
like movie marathons, horror booths were set to
all who were eager to bestow some sort of blast.
But how come they’re like dropping out of
sight? Are these already chapped in the coffin?
Uh-uh! Maybe because this year’s intramural is
cruddy which only brought additional adversity
to people.
The disco which most of the students are
anticipating turned out into a modest affair.
Students were shouting for justice because of the
delay of time. Others were peeved because of the
short duration of the said stuff.
Correspondingly, during Intramural days,
there must be exhibits of talents all crammed into
diverse structures such as the search for Mr. and
Ms. CTU. But what happened? Audiences were
screaming sarcastically because of the technical
errors that resulted to the unsystematic length of
the event.
Also, students anticipated comprehensive
nightly events for the entire week but what
happened on the fourth night was that silence
subordinated the whole campus. Students
were bugged, leaving the campus mumbling
ridiculously.
Last year’s Intramural is merely different
from what it is this year. Students have foreseen
every phase as to what Intramural has brought to
everyone. Everybody expects to have fun but it
seems that the headway has stumbled, the body
shattered down and the anticipation of each
student has blown apart.
HOLLAGAN
JUDE BALBEROS
I could perceive a body cramming
experience when students witnessed
only crumb booths present in this
year’s big event.
Prolonged Agony
One of the most upheaving events in CTU- Main
Campus is intramural meet. It is belted in with
sports action, competitions, cheers of different
units, and booths of entertainment and service.
However, what happened to other phase of the
this year’s intramural? Was it tormented? Or was
it jeopardize.
Almost three years of marking of my footprints
in the ground of CTU-MC so as experiencing the
different locales of the intramural meet, and
delegating myself to savor and feel the festivity of
this event, it seems that this year is a little mishap
for me.
Basically, booths color the other angle of the
intramural meet and fulfill the voracious appetite
of the students in terms of entertainment. As
I remember, the last years intramural were
composed of diverse booths that can entertain
the massive number of students in this institution
and student visitors from different universities
and colleges. These were the booths that put the
students to satisfaction namely; marriage booth,
horror both, videoke, and any other booths that
could satisfy the student’s interest. Abstrusely
speaking, just a pinch of percent participated
the athletic events. How about those remaining
students inside the corners of this university?
Are they catered properly? Absolutely not. This
is due to slowly degrading of the enclosed place
that was entitled to serve and entertain the non-
participating students in the athletic events.
I could perceive a body cramming experience
when students witnessed only crumb booths
present in this year’s big event. The expectations
were stocked up and bombardment of plans
where to go, only to complete the experience
package of intramurals 2015.
It was already set in our minds that intramural
is one of the most decisive moments to grab
on, wherein the best memories are all one in a
big event. On the contrary, the scenario simply
described as desolated place covered with fuzzy
environment where we cannot feel its presence.
Who to blame of this little mess? The one who
governs the student body? Well, this is not the
ideal to blame those students in the chair to do
such things for the betterment of the students.
Instead, it has something to do with buzzing them
to knock up their minds and heart to feel the
prolonged agony of the students expecting for
a change and best intramural they ever want to
experience.

F
ood has been part of people’s
lives; hence, it is one of
the most vital sources for
survival. In addition, with the aids
of it people can earn money by just
selling and bonding together.
Strolling around the campus
during Intramural Meet 2015, you
might have entered in the different
booths and bought thirst quenchers
and viands in the food stalls exist to
feast your sullen stomach. Yet, have
you ever passed by in the corner of
the college of Education and tried
to buy some grilled foods that were
sold?
The aroma of the soot from the
grilled foods permeated in every
corner of the CoEd. With a variety
DisabilitiesSelling with

of grilled foods being sold such as
intestines, chicken and barbeque
etc., the appearance and savory
will surely endeavor yourself to
purchase some of it. In contrast with
the food, the sellers were very silent.
They were working hand-on-hand
and the noise that can only be heard
was the sizzling of the grilled foods,
loud cheers of the students, vehicles
and blows of the wind.
If you passed by in that area, you
might be wondering why they were
so silent. It is because they were
mute and deaf and among of them
there is only one person can talk a
little bit words yet unclear. In spite
of their situations that they have the
difficulty in communication, they
still continue what they are doing
which is to sell although there is a
barrier in between them and to the
people around them.
These students clustered
themselves to show that the can
do also what those people who are
complete can do. And because most
of us are knowledgeable enough
about sign language the barrier will
be eased.
Selling is one of the best ways to
show and explore one’s ability to
communicatetootherpeople.These
groups of students, who are special
as they are, have proved to us that
selling isn’t just for people who are
average enough, but also for them
who have this silent environment
yet have colorful aura to mingle with
other people.
Drive it in: Now or never
continued from page 7
During the intramural meet, games and sports are
the ones that should be given more focus on. It could
have been great if there are numerous students who had
attended the event. If they could have just done something
that would catch the students’ attention, for sure, many
of us could have attended the intramural meet. And if the
students were cooperative enough, the intramural meet
would have been better than what had been for years.
What’s the matter with the things during the intramural
week that we can’t seem to pay greater attention to the
games and the sports that we should have had given since
then? The Intramural Meet is for us – for the students and
for everyone that wishes to play and improve. It is for us
to get involved in the sports and for us to take a break and
be once united with our respective colleges. It isn’t just a
simple thing that we can just take for granted easily. It is
merely something big that every student should attend to.
Intramural Meet will always have these redundant lapses if
the unity among the students, coaches, and the organizers
will never have an improvement.

UNIVERSITY
SLING:IMPOSED TOWARDS
PROGRESS?
N
o University Sling, No Entry” a
policy that was supposed to take
effect last August 17, 2015 but was
not successfully implemented due to some
circumstances. Indeed, this policy of wearing
the prescribed sling is a strict rule to consider
especially on the student’s perspective
because they are attending school as part of
their rights to be educated. In fact in a State
University, education should be prioritized
rather than other school requirements.
Its importance is to have uniformity and
easy identification of the students as to what
college they belong. However, every progress
requires change. All it needs is the right
attitude of the students in order to achieve it.
As a CTUnian, would you dare to make a step
for future’s development?
“Everyone should learn to follow the
rules” asserted the Campus Director. It was
also the Director’s decision to postpone the
implementation in order for the students to
be aware of the new policy. This paved way
for the students to be prepared. The SSG
also stated that it’s not them who obliged the
sling to be mandatory but it is the Admin. The
SSG asked the authority from the Campus
Director to spearhead the selling of University
sling as part of their Income Generating
Project (IGP) to sustain their activities like the
2nd organization Day and The Voice (Blind
Audition).
The Campus Director, the College Deans
andtheSecurityChiefOfficerDr.EdgarSolana,
were the ones who conceptualized this policy
assigning a color scheme for every college for
uniformity’s sake; and easy identification.
It aims to deter graduate and non-CTU
students from entering the school’s premises.
The color-coding per department represents
the identity and conformity of the students
(both the undergraduate and the graduate
courses), and the faculty and staff.
On the other hand, the on-the-job trainees
are also required to purchase the sling
except for the COT trainees, whose training
comprises for a whole year.
Moreover, the orange and pink slings can be
purchased at the canteen. The proceeds will
also be directed to the COOP to support their
upcoming projects.
“I see the objective of the Admin to have an
easy identification but the advantage sa part
sa students kay ang SSG nag sell then the
proceeds will be given back to them. Also wala
nato na waste ang SSG funds, in just a week
or a night, instead it will be allocated for the
projects of SSG” Abanes said in an interview.
Having the university slings, though with
different designs and colors, would mean
unityforallthestudents,thedepartmentsand
the colleges in the campus. The lanyards will
surely give the students a bunch of confidence
to face other schools without any hesitation
to show CTU’s symbol of unity. Students from
Colleges of Engineering, Education, Arts and
Sciences, and Technology wouldn’t worry
anymore for they will be easily identified with
the department they are in.

“Today’s Intramural has been silent, lots of
failure, lapses, etc. It is more lively, wild and colorful
compare last year. But the events or games played
on the Intramurals has been more interesting and
quite amazing. And we expected also the nightly
activities will make us enjoy but no, because
there’s no communication at all and thus the game
was affected. I congratulate the P.E. office for the
well organized event and as a fourth year student,
I expected it is more full of fun, happiness and wild
student enjoying the Intramurals.”
