With reference to the advert, I would like to be considered for the said position. This is a position I
feel equipped to fill since I have experience, training, and a natural interest in designing high-tech
equipment that will be ready to roll as soon as my drawings and specifications are completed. To
give you brief summary of my portfolio, my Technical skills and experience bank includes:
1. MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering (Res) from the University of Sheffield with merit. As a
part of this Research course, I had proved the possibility of converting SI Engine to run into HCCI
(Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) mode with alterations in Exhaust Valve Timings.
(Design and Development):
My MSc projects aims at converting existing Ford Focus Zetec Engine to run into HCCI mode by
varying the amount of time exhaust valves are open (EVT). Since, it was conceptual phase; help of
simulation package was taken to prove feasibility of this conversion.
2. Work Experience: (In total 5 years)
a. 3 years in an Engine R&D department of an Automotive firm (Mahindra and Mahindra ltd, FES,
India):
Used various CAD packages such as IDEAS, PRO-E, AutoCAD in preparing conceptual designs of
Engine components and assemblies, carried out necessary engineering calculations (static and
Kinematic) required in designing new products, Generated assembly layouts and component 3D and
its associated 2D Technical drawing using above mentioned CAD packages, Prepared Engineering
releases and used Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing methods extensively to ensure that
components adhere to the standards.
Worked closely with Production, Engine & vehicle Assembly teams so as to meet customer’s needs
and used DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly) and Reverse Engineering
techniques to meet design requirements. Have arranged and participated in DFMEA
and DOE sessions with cross functional teams in order to address production and assembly issues in
successful completion of all the Projects.
Generated Bill of Materials using SAP-MRP package. Useful data such as Drawing revisions,
Engineering Releases, DFMEA outcomes, Minute of Meetings and Test results were documented and
maintained in technical files as per JQM directives.
b. 6 months in Production Planning department in the Manufacturing firm (Larsen and Toubro ltd,
India), (Manufacturing, Materials and Process Experience)
c. 6 months in Tool Design and Development department in the Manufacturing firm (Larsen and
Toubro ltd, India),
d. As a part of my MSc project, I was involved in 12 months Design and Development project in the
Ricardo Engine lab at the University of Sheffield (2008-09):
