Developing a Power Temperature Cycling Test Solution for Automotive Customers Why PTC test needed Under AEC-Q100 Automotive Qualification Requirement The most realistic way on checking the package to device thermal integrity & reliability subjected to full operating temperature range. Requirement for the device consuming power over 1W or Package thermal impedance Delta Tj-a to be over 40 deg C / W in the field application. Requested by key European and US automotive suppliers that LTC having over $80M at yearly basis.
3. Benefit of Developing a Power Temperature Cycling Test Solution for Automotive Customer None of the major competitors deliver the Power Temp Cycle solution yet. Complete and deliver the PTC test in time will secure the company’smarket share.
4. Approach of SMART S (specific): The test will be according AEC Q100 spec and the requirement from Delphi’s internal spec Sample size: 45 pcs Temp range -40 to 85 deg C, with Tj up to 125 deg C 1000 cycles with duration 10 min and ramp rate 10 deg C / min. All the DUT subjected to on/off every 5 mins.

Approach of SMART Will break down to the following engineering sections to execute Design Engineering: Provide IC Application Schematics to perform the PTC test (Pw=1W or Heating up device with delta Tj=40 deg C) Backend Support: Laying out the motherboard and daughter cards (that can load up al least 60Amax current load with 30% extra margin) Reliability Engineering: Access the need of equipments, draft of hardware requirement to perform stress test (Review spec of Temp Cycle Chamber, Solution of Control Module, High voltage and High Power Supply, 60V, 100A)

8. Approach of SMART R (Realistic) The solution of Power Temperature Cycling should be executable for LTC. Even other competitors havn’t performed this test solution yet for automotive customer. (LTC delivers solutions other competitors could not make). How much money will spend…… (we are fugal) Concern of additional money may need to get a control module to turn system on/off. Need to check if it’s embedded into Temp Cycle system.
9. Approach of SMART T (Deliver in Time) Customer requires to deliver the result already over due (as other competitors could not even has the solution, not really too late to cover). Renegotiate with the customer to have the first set of result ready for them 6 months from now. Trial run will be performed 3 months from now (after all the HW build are ready).
