party!
This presentation includes what we are
learning about this unit.
2. Content Questions
Essential Question: What do you do when
you celebrate something?
Unit Question: What are some things you may need to
have a birthday party?
What are somethings you may see at a party that starts
with the letter "P"?
Content Question: Who has a birthday?
What happens on your birthday?
When is Dr. Suess's birthday?
3. Upcoming Unit Plan
This unit we will be learning about the letter "P". We
will learn how to incorporate real-life objects
associated with words used in real life events. Our
main project will be planning a birthday party for Dr.
Suess. Throughout the semester the students will
have different assignments where they find things
that start with the letter "P" that you may see at a
party.
4. Standards we will be
working on.
ELA.K(4.) Use words that describe and represent real-life objects
and actions.
Objective: Understand real-life object associated with words used in
real-life events.
ELA.K(2.) Demonstrate letter-sound association, including matching
letters to corresponding spoken sounds and blending letter sounds
into one- syllable words, using printed materials.
Objective: Demonstrate an understanding of knowledge of letter
sounds of words such as (Picnic starts with “P”)
5. The Teacher's Role
The teacher will present the lessons in a timely manner while
incorporating smaller assignments leading up to the main
project. The teacher will evaluate each student throughout
the unit making sure each student is on track and able to
follow along with the class. The teacher will use various
assessments to evaluate the student's knowledge and
progress as they complete assignments and continue
lessons.
6. Parents and Students Role
Parents will be responsible for helping their child with their projects and
discussing with them the things you may need at a party and why. Parents are
also responsible for making sure their child is completing their homework
assignments.
Students will be responsible for searching for things in magazines, sales
papers, or googling images of things for their project. They will design a poster
with all the items listed for a birthday party and that start with the letter "P".
Students are expected to be creative and involved in planning this event, as
they learn to incorporate words and objects with real-life situations.
7. Benefits of the unit
This unit will help the students
understand letter-sounds with
using the letter "P" and other items
associated with a party. They will
know how to use words to
describe and represent real-life
objects and actions by planning a
birthday party for Dr. Suess using
the items they came up with their
self throughout the unit.
8. Standards

words such as (picnic starts with "P").
9. What is Project-Based Learning?
Project-Based Learning is a students centered teaching strategy used in the
classroom for projects. Project-Based learning is a twenty-first century skill to
help students be more creative, work together, and be involved in their own
learning. When using this strategy the teacher and students can evaluate and
monitor progress throughout the lesson. We will be using Project-Based
learning in our classroom as we continue on to our new unit. Students will
collaborate with one another as they discuss the assignments and come up
with ideas together for the party. Students will be asked before the unit what
they see at parties as I document their knowledge of the material. I will observe
the students while they are working in their small groups searching for materials
needed and complete a checklist of each students input, ideas, and efforts to
the project.
