This document outlines the requirements for interventions for students struggling in different areas that need a PEP. It states that for each area of concern - reading, math, writing, or behavior - a student must have two specific interventions that address the issue. Each intervention should include details about the instructional strategy, setting, frequency, and skill being addressed. Examples of potential interventions are provided for math, writing, reading, and behavior.

1. Each area of concern needs two interventions
 If a student is struggling in reading and needs a PEP, you must have two interventions
for reading.
 If a student is struggling in math and needs a PEP, you must have two interventions for
math.
 If a student is struggling in writing and needs a PEP, you must have two interventions
for writing.
 If a student is struggling with behavior and needs a PEP, you must have two
interventions for behavior.
 Each intervention should include:
*The instructional action
*Setting
*The frequency
*The area / skill you are addressing.
*Make your intervention as specific a possible.
 Examples:
Math
Student will use math manipulatives in a small-group setting three days a week to build basic
math skills.
Student will use math flashcards in a one-on-one setting five days a week to improve his/her
knowledge of basic math facts.
Writing
Student will have daily use of a writing “Think Sheet” to improve writing focus.
Student will participate in “freewriting” at least four days a week to focus on writing fluency.
Reading
Student will participate in Six-Minute Solutions with a peer partner three days a week to improve
fluency skills.
Student will participate in Words Their Way in a small group setting four days a week to address
phonics and decoding skills.
Behavior
Student will use a behavior contract to improve his/her ability to pay attention and complete
work.
Student will utilize Velcro placed under his/her desk as a calming technique to focus his/her
attention.
