Candida vaginitis is caused by the fungus Candida albicans. It presents with intense vulvovaginal discharge, dyspareunia, and a thick, curdy white discharge on examination that resembles cottage cheese and adheres to the vaginal walls. Diagnosis is made via wet smear, and treatment involves removing predisposing factors as well as using local and oral antifungal creams, ointments, pessaries, or single dose therapies like fluconazole or itraconazole.

Causative agent: Candida albicans (Gram positive fungus)
Clinical features:
Intense vulvovaginal discharge
Dyspareunia

3. On examination:
• Thick, curdy white discharge.
• Cottage cheese type flakes discharge often adherent to
the vaginal wall.
• Red swollen vulva.
• Tender PV examination.

4. Diagnosis:
• Wet smear

5. Treatment:
• Removal of predisposing factors.
• Local anti fungal prep.
• Creams, ointments, pessary.
• Single dose oral therapy
• Fluconazole/ itraconazole
