plants, warehouses, and distribution
centers. From stacks of pallets falling
over and striking an employee or
damaging surrounding product or
plant equipment, to employees
tripping over a pallets. Pallets not

OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, sets safety standards
across a variety of industries to keep American workers safe. OSHA has safety
standards for most job-related tasks that have the potential to harm workers.
While empty pallets lying around the sales floor might not seem like a big problem
to some business owners, the risk of employee injury and OSHA fines are
significant threats.
OSHA Standard 1910.22 states that “all workplaces and storerooms must be
orderly, clean and sanitary. The standard also specifies that the floor and
workspace must be free of protruding nails, holes, splinters, loose boards and
other potential dangers. If the company uses mechanical handling equipment, all
aisles and passageways must be clear of any obstructions”.
Pallets lying about the warehouse floor could definitely violate this OSHA standard
resulting in fines or even worse an employee injury. Either way it is going to be
costly for the facility. Avoiding these costs is as simple as implementing strict
pallet management procedures and the use of pallet enclosures systems. The cost
of implementation of such a system is negligible compared to the cost of OSHA
fines or employee injury.
