1. ■Abstract: This present study focuses on the role of flowers in Thai
society in the past and as it is nowadays. The objectives of this research
are to derive its characteristics and underlying meaning of this culture,
along with designing a guideline for future generation. Research
methods include literature reviews, interviews with two specialists, two
senior citizens, and fifty sets of questionnaire based in Bangkok were
conducted. We found the following. First, Thais use flowers in a
number of community events and daily life activities. In fact, Thai life
style is widely involved with flowers. Secondly, there are cultural 61
meanings associated with different types of flower usage. Third, there
are rules associated with the use of flowers in each cultural event.
These rules are in fact shared among Thai people and, perhaps,
strengthen the sense of belongingness to a community. Hence, the use
of flowers in Thai culture is significantly valuable for Thai people in
the past up until now. It is important to continue this practice for people
to realize its value.
