This study highlights the most segregated and deprived community in Pakistan which is often subjected to abuse, killing, verbal and physical torture by the members of the society, this community is known to be the “Trans-people of Pakistan”.

2. Why to Research?
• The research question;
“ What are the factors which acts as a hurdle in the survival of
the transgender community in Pakistan”
• The research was performed to fulfill the requirements of the
course.
• The idea of the research topic is to draw the attention towards
the most marginalized community in Pakistan which are often
seen begging and roaming in the streets but are neglected by
many.
• The research study is self-funded by the members of the
group.
• The different sections were divided among the members for
convenience.
• The need for the research was felt due to the rising attention
of the civil society, media and judiciary for the development of
the transgender community in Pakistan.

4. Mapping the Stakeholders
Stakeholders Perceptions about TG Community
NGO Chairperson
Bindya Rana who was the founder of GIA, shares the key information associated how the TG
engage themselves in Guru Chaila System, and she herself was the guru who guides and
teaches to her community.
Local Shopkeepers Most of the shopkeepers were keen to shared that TG with their peers come to market for
purchasing bangles, make-up accessories and clothes. They did not employ TG because of
their image in the society; they are degraded by the people.
Doctors (Gynecologists) They informed regarding the birth of a TG child in one of their cases which they have observed
in their life as gynecologists and they also shared that TG in Pakistani society are almost male
rather than Female TG and number of male TG become cross–dressers to earn income as a
beggars wandering around the streets. Most of the high income TG goes through surgical
operations for specifying their gender.
Commuters He emphasized that these TG people utilize the injections which costs Rs.350-Rs.400/- and
helps in keeping their female attire most appropriate and shaping their body parts.
Lawyers TG advocate stated about his community that the TG are their own worst enemy, they
segregate themselves from the society and commenced to inhibit in community based home.
They are least interested in hard labor in order to survive in this conservative society.
5. The Strategy!
• The direct and indirect methods were used to reach out the
research participants.
• Firstly, the references were used to trace out the locations
of the trans-genders.
• Some interviews were only conducted by the male
members of the group due to security concerns. However,
female members were also given equal chances to survey
with male members but this was subjected to various
locations.
• The trans-gender were directly approached and they were
traced out by the clues from the residents of different
locations. However, the shopkeepers were very supportive
in this process.

8. The Research Methodology
• An open-ended exploratory strategy was
followed. The study was commenced in

• The information was recorded in the cases when
the respondents were comfortable with it.
However, in many cases it was dropped due to
the sensitive nature of the respondents.
• The information was mostly handed-written
through the note taking process.
• The pictures were only clicked when the
respondents were comfortable with it.
• In some cases, the names, identity and nature of
job is also kept in secret on the request of the
respondents.
12. Analyzing, Verification & Writing
• The information is mostly analyzed from
the 21 in-depth interviews conducted
from various stakeholders.
• The verification is based on the
Governmental and the Dera’s the
highest body among trans-community.
• The writing involves the Glossary,
Acronyms for reader’s convenience as
some words are mostly related to
Pakistan context.
• However, the authors owns the few
sensitive terms stated in the research
study.
• The traditional language of trans-people
is also used along with the meaning in
English.

involves the age, income and
location graphs of the
respondents.
• The photographs are also
attached when we were allowed
to capture it, however due to the
sensitivity it is limited.

• The statements and facts are
