1. President Robert Maher, Jr. called the Saturday, June 24th, 2017 General Meeting to order at
9:29 a.m. at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf’s Auditorium.
The minutes of June 23rd 2017 was approved as read.
clarification on the NECROLOGY part –
Jack Otterman (’64) was listed in the May 7, 2016 meeting minutes
Virginia (Fitzpatrick) Weber was also listed in the May 7, 2016 meeting minutes (not the
Virginia {Garrett} Weber)
we will need to investigate on these three deaths –
1) Howard Reese (was reported that it is supposed to be Harry not Harold) (’52) 9/15/14
(mentioned in the Dec. 12, 2014 meeting minutes).
2) Russell Brumbaugh (’81) – Sept. 2016
3) Jane Greenfield

GM 2017-01 Stephen Rute (seconded) to change the wordings, “a person(s)’ to “up to six
person” in Article IV – Awards, Section 4 – Rev. John G. Brown Service Award…
“The Executive Committee shall choose a person(s) before each Reunion to have his/her
name(s) engraved on the Rev. John G. Brown Service Award plaque. The person(s) shall be
chosen for his/her devoted service to the deaf for at least twenty-five (25) years at the
Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. (2/21/93; 6/29/96)”
to
“The Executive Committee shall choose up to six (6) person(s) before each Reunion to have
his/her name(s) engraved on the Rev. John G. Brown Service Award plaque. The person(s)
shall be chosen for his/her devoted service to the deaf for at least twenty-five (25) years at
the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. (2/21/93; 6/29/96; 6/24/17)”
David Strait (seconded) amended that we replace “six (6)” with “ten (10)”.
CARRIED AS AMENDED Now it reads this way:

GM 2017-02 Stephen Rute (seconded) moved to make changes in this Section – Article VI –
Committee, Section 8
“The Executive Board shall mail a letter out to all Active members, asking for any
worthwhile candidate(s) for said award along with the description of each award(s). The
person who nominates a certain candidate must fill out reasons why that candidate is
deserving of the said award. The deadline for these nominations shall be April 15th of every
Banquet year. Any nominees, in any awards listed above, with his/her background shall be
saved in file for future use. (6/22/02)”
to

GM2017-03 Paul Wojton (seconded) moved that we sell dri-fit polo shirts with the Alumni
logo on the chest area as part of our fund-raising project. CARRIED

3. GM2017-04 Todd Langer (seconded) moved to change Article IV – Officers, Section 1 as
listed below:
“The officers of the Assiciation shall be a President, a First Vice-President, a Second Vice-
President, a Recording Secretary, a Corresponding Secretary, a Treasurer, and three (3)
Directors. (8/31/46; 6/22/02)”
to
“The officers of the Assiciation shall be a President, a First Vice-President, a Second Vice-

4. GM2017-06 Stephen Rute (seconded) moved that the Alumni Association propose to the
CEO and Board of Trustees to help us get a grant for the purpose of keeping our Alumni
Museum in good condition and and have a full-time salaried curator/researcher. CARRIED
GM2017-07 Stephen Rute (seconded) moved that we order a school flag and that be blue
with the yellow WPSD letterings. CARRIED
GM2017-08 Michael Dorrell (seconded) moved that our tri-ennial reunion be moved from
June to October. Philip Wismer (seconded) moved to refer this to the Law Committee.
REFERRED TO THE LAW COMMITTEE
GM2017-09 Mike Dorrell (seconded) moved that we remove the
performance/entertainment part from our Tri-ennial Reunion. CARRIED
GM2017-10 Philip Wismer moved that we have a one-day Reunion instead of a three-day
Reunion. DIED DUE TO NO SECOND
GM2017-11 Valentine Wojton, III (seconded) moved that Charles Reisinger be our Election
Chairperson. He accepted. CARRIED

5. ELECTION:
President – Robert Maher, Jr. was elected as our 2017-20 President.
First Vice-President – David Tasselli was elected as our 2017-20 First Vice-President.
Second Vice-President – Thomas DeFazio and John Noschese were nominated and we voted
John Noschese to be our 2017-20 Second Vice-President.
Secretary - Valentine Wojton, III was elected as our 2017-20 Secretary.
Treasurer – Todd Langer was elected as our 2017-20 Treasurer.
3-Year Trustee – Michelle Vigliotti was supposed to move up to this position but she was not
in attendance to accept this position.
Thomas DeFazio and Tracey Marchese were nominated to replace Michelle Vigliotti.
Thomas DeFazio is elected to replace Michelle Vigliotti as our 3-Year Trustee.
6-Year Trustee – Lawrence Hast was moved up from the 9-Year Trustee.
9-Year Trustee – Tracey Marchese was elected to be our 2017-20 9-Year Trustee.
Members-at-Large
Jamie Kitchen, Irene Hearn (Rosie Noschese decided to be her proxy), Paul Blahut, Peggy
Patterson, Tony Dumblosky, David Strait, David Fulmer (Philip Wismer decided to be his
proxy), Paul Wojton, Stephen Rute, Robert Andrascik, Jesse Barkey, Seth Podolsky, Richard
Wilt, and James Toner were nominated.

6. Elaine Mifflin (seconded) moved that we accept these 5 former MALs (Tony Dumblosky,
Irene Hearn, Peggy Patterson, David Strait, and Paul Wojton) to continue as MALs for the
2017-20 term. CARRIED
James Toner decided to remove his name from the list. CARRIED
We then voted for 5 more to fill the 5 remaining spots from the 8 Alumni. The tellers were –
Thomas DeFazio, Lawrence Hast, and Valentine Wojton, III.

Jamie Kitchen – 44 votes
David Fulmer – 49 votes
Stephen Rute – 47 votes
Robert Andrascik – 37 votes
Jesse Barkey – 17 votes
Seth Podolsky – 26 votes
Richard Wilt – 23 votes
A total of 62 ballots were casted, two of them were voided {one was a blank and the other
one had “Seth Barkey” as one of the votes). To be elected, a person must have 32 votes or
more. These first five names above are our Members-at-Large for the 2017-20 term.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:43 a.m.
