Pipeline companies often need to locate old pipeline easements to perform maintenance or construction work. However, over time, imagery of the land can change significantly as forests grow or are removed. By analyzing aerial and satellite imagery from different decades, researchers can look for natural or man-made features that remain in the same location over long periods of time to help match current imagery with older imagery and help locate historic pipeline easements.
