Spotlight – Meet Walter Kane, Global Customer Care
for Maritime Solutions
In April, Harris CapRock welcomed Walter Kane as the new lead for Global
Customer Care for Maritime Solutions. This new position was developed as an
extension of Harris CapRock’s commitment and focus on customer service. Walter
will be responsible for driving the overall customer experience across the maritime
business, leading the strategy and execution of service provisioning and delivering
value for maritime customers around the globe.
With more than 30 years of professional
experience, Walter brings a wealth of skills and
knowledge in terrestrial and satellite
communication technologies for the maritime
industry. His experience will be beneficial in
leading the global field services team, which
supports Harris CapRock’s maritime customers.
As part of this responsibility, a key area of focus
for Walter will be continually assessing and
working to improve customer service. Walter
will work to ensure that field services team
members are properly resourced and trained so
they are ready to appropriately handle field dispatch as necessary for new installs,
preventative maintenance and incident response.
Walter’s previous positions include roles in executive sales management, product
management, technical services and various leadership roles. He also served on a
variety of merchant vessels operated by commercial ship operators, Military Sealift
Command and the U.S. Maritime Administration.
More about Walter:
• As a young man, Walter served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard where
he was trained as a radioman.
• He was a U.S. Merchant Marine Radio Electronics Officer, where he was
awarded an FCC 1st class radiotelegraph license, with RADAR endorsement
and a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer License. He also held an
apprenticeship with the Radio Officers Union.
• Walter pursued an education in electronics technology, attending Sylvania
Technical School in Waltham, MA and the Institute of Maritime Electronics in
Easton, MD.
• In 1999, the Veteran Wireless Operators Association nominated and
awarded Walter the Marconi Memorial Gold Medal of Achievement,
recognizing his alertness to radio signals that saved a life at sea.
• Throughout his career, Walter has kept up with the advances of shipboard
technology and achieved a variety of technical certifications. He has
managed numerous shipboard installations of marine communication
systems, products and services and has immeasurable experience with
configuring complex technical solutions including SATCOM, FleetBroadband,
