ThisdescribesthequalitiesofECO REP forpreservationandprotectiono f r e f i n e r y
e q u i p m e n t s a n d m a c h i n e r i e s withintheoilrefineries.
Theeffectivenessofprotectionof the equipment and machinerieson inventory isof great
importance due to a high cost of refinery equipment.
Thereexistsamajorproblemwithinrefineries;temporaryprotectionofused and new
equipment, machineries and parts on
inventory.Thisproblemarisesfromtheinabilitytothoroughlycleanthe
equipmentandfacilities,andincompleteinhibition-inabilitytointroduceinhibitorsto
eachandeverypartofthesurface.
Thereareseveralcommonmethodsofprotection,someofthemwithadvantages
andsomewithdeficiencies.However,eachofthemrequirethoroughcleaningof
equipmentpriortotemporarypreservation.
1. Nitrogenatmosphereprotectionrequiresthoroughpurging,acontinuous
sourceofcleannitrogen,periodicreviewandreleaseofcondensate. The
method is simple but not efficientduetotheimpossibilityofcomplete drying
of the system, ineffective control of condensation and corrosion
underneath the remaining sediments.
2. In using inhibited gas, oil or petroleum, it is possible to almost completely
fillupthesystemafterpurgingandinhibitcorrosionefficiently,dependingonthe
choseninhibitors.However,itisnotpossibletoprotectallhardto
reachareas,particularlywheremoisturecondenses.The cost of thisform of
protectionarehigh.
3. Passivizationwithdryairworksonlyoncompletelycleansurface. Any areas of
condensation, as well as areas not entirely cleaned of sediments, remain
beyond control of simple passivation and local corrosion damage
ispossible.
4. Corrosioninhibitionbyapplication of ECO REPwassomething new for
the refinery. Only minimalcleaning of the equipment is
requiredforaturnaround and simply apply ECO REP by spraying
ontothe equipment as well as intotheequipment. Itisexpected that these
inhibitors would prevent corrosion on all surfaces ofthe equipment.

meansofconservationofvesselsandcolumnsthannitrogenorinhibitedoilor gas. ECO
REPappliedaccordingly will ensureprotectionof metalsurfacesand beabletopreservethe
