their products.
Introduction
It is important that the media industry identifies the audiences for
their products to make sure that they are suitable for the audience.
In this report I am going to show how the media industry identifies
audiences for their products.
1. Bbc, Easterners, 19:28 with 7.162 thousand people watching
this programme this applies to all the group. This age group for
easterners would be for all the ages because there are all
different ages of people in the programme, this can relate to
the all the audience.
2. G.O.L.D, only fools and horse, Monday 11:54 158 watching this
programme, this applies to the group E ,D and C2. This age
group for only fools and horse would be for the ages of 15 and
over because there is a little bit of swearing so it would
inappropriate for little children watching it.
3. Cartoon network, Mr Bean , Saturday 09:30 with 52 people,
this applies to group E. This age group for Mr Bean would be
for the ages 9 to 50 as this programme is funny and would
entertain families, young adults and older adults.

A focus group is where a people discus ideas what can be improved
or like to add to a programme or a concert what make people have
they say or have your own option about the relevant discussion.
Advantages of an focus group is that you can put your own voice
across for your ideas and what you think that could be improve the
product what you’re talking about. Also, in focus groups the
moderator can make sure that everything is on track and doesn’t
lose focus what the end output and it make sure researches look up
and see if that people are copy the company ideas or not .
The disadvantages of being in focus group is that you might not get
the chance to get voice to be heard because of people might over
power their ideas over yours. Also, some people find talking about
sensitive topic so this would affect the output data. Plus, people
might disagree with your opinion so that would create conflict and
might put you off addressing your ideas across.
Dora the explorer would be for children of the ages of 4 to 8 years
old and both gender, mostly girls than boys. This is because of the
programme helping children with their education and girls would
4. watch it because of the girls might like the character in the
programme.
The Imbertweeners would be for
teenagers and adult of the ages of 13 to 60 year olds; this is
because that there is some adult humour so it would inappropriate
for the younger generation to watch is programme. It also is
appropriate because the older audience because they could relate
their own experiences when they were that age.
The Granada report would be for people who live in Manchester
because someone from Birmingham wouldn’t want to know what has
been happing in Manchester area. It is just for people who relate to
the postcode and where
you live.
5. For the Gay times magazine it is aimed for men who are interested
with the same sex as it tell the gay community information how to
cope and advise for gay men.
The yachting magazine would aim for people who can afford, have a
boat licence a yacht. Also people who enjoy sailing around the coastal
area .
6. Questionnaires is a where you fill out a form what has question what
at the end they would collect all the information and us it to
creating statistics out of the data.
The advantages of a questionnaire are that you can create a large
mass of questionnaires in a sort space of time and you don’t have to
travel to the work placement for an interview.
The disadvantage of a questionnaire are that the data what you
revive back might not be reliable because people didn’t understand
the question or people would be lying on the questionnaire, also, it is
very time consuming to create the statistics with a large mass of
data coming in to the company .
Conclusion
To conclude I have researched the media industry and how it
identifies the audiences for their products. I have found out that
there are a variety of different groups for classifying audiences.
These include age, gender, sexual orientation, social class and
geographic location.
