1. Q4. Who would be the audience for you
media product?
Our target audience is young adults (16-28) this is because
we feel the older generation cant associate themselves
with what has happened in the film and people of our
generation will as it is based on a young man with a weird
obsession. We feel like our target audience would like
modern things like the latest iPhone, nice brands such as
River Island or Topman and listen to upbeat music not
classic or anything like that.
2. As you can see I have two mood boards here on male one
female from a group of teenagers. As you can see they
like the latest technology, new styles in clothing and
socialising. We can see from this that boys like to play
consoles like Xbox and the girls with all there fashionable
accessories. We feel both genders are most likely to shop
in more trendy shop and lastly think both will watch
programmes such as eastenders.
3. Target Audience
From our target audience we found out that we
have some good stuff in our film and some we
need to improve. Some of the good points are
that we have interesting plot, very good target
audience, good use of camera shots,
suspenseful, good use of enigma, fits very well
with the genre, had a very good twist, the use of
camera shots. Some of the bad points from are
feedback is that we need to not make the
enigma so obvious.
4. Q5. How did you attract/ address your
target audience?
I feel thriller is mostly linked with teenagers as it
is drilled with adrenaline and thrill what all
young people seek for. Therefore are aim was to
direct our thriller opening on what they like. 4
main sections to consider were;
• Genre conventions
• Media language
• Music
• Similarities with other films
5. Genre Conventions
Genre convention consist of four sub sections
which are: characters, iconography, narrative
and themes. Firstly I will discuss the male
character who plays a typical male character in a
thriller where he appears to be a normal man
who works but then we then find out he
captures women. The women character also
plays a typical part as she is stuck in a bad
situation and is innocent.
6. Iconography
Iconography is basically what you see one the screen;
props, costumes, cars and mise on scene. I feel this was
done well as the male character as OCD and because of
that all the rooms are very tidy. Also iconography was
used well on the girl character as she has her make up
all over the place and has a rope around her. Lastly the
car being black is a simple of bad/death which
symbolises the male character.
7. Narrative
The definition can simply be described as a
series of events that take place over time. As
this is an opening it wouldn’t have that much
but in ours we see the man coming back from
work like any other person would but then when
he gets in his house we see he has tied a girl up.
This makes the opening have more enigmas due
to the capture of the girl.
8. Types Of Shots
As you can see we have used a variety of shots
throughout our opening to create more
suspense. For example we used match on action
at the beginning to show the man walking into
his house, this is to show the audience where
the scene is taking place. We also done a
montage of the man getting changed for his
meal, we done this to show his different
personalities.
9. Music
We used music to also add to the affect and add
suspense to the film. Our music like an enigma
and the audience is waiting out to find this
enigma which is soon going to be revealed. I feel
this music also is enjoyable for the target
audience as I am of age group and I think it is
very good.
10. Unique Selling Point
I feel our unique selling point is the enigma as it
is not something which is as obvious as other
films and the characters in it also link in with our
target audience which is also good as it makes
them feel related.
