Caterpillar conducted a review of 22 fatigue detection technologies for use in the mining industry. They developed an objective assessment matrix to score the technologies based on 16 categories and 93 total features, with weightings from mining customers and fatigue experts. The top technologies identified were ASTiDTM, FaceLab, HaulCheck, OptalertTM, and the Driver State Monitor. Simulator trials showed promise for FaceLab and Driver State Monitor, but more development is needed. Head nod sensors performed poorly in trials. Overall, ASTiDTM and OptalertTM were recommended as viable options to support fatigue management programs, but technology should not replace good policies and taking responsibility for fitness for work.

IntroductionThe capstone project is a structured walkthrough pen.pdffantasiatheoutofthef
Introduction
The capstone project is a structured walkthrough penetration test of a fictional
company, Artemis, Incorporated (Artemis). A structured walkthrough is an
organized procedure for a group of peers to review and discuss the technical
aspects of various IT, IT Security, and IT Audit work products. The major objectives
of a structured walkthrough are to find errors and to improve the quality of the
product or service to be delivered.
This document provides a comprehensive overview of the project and the expected
deliverables.
Overview
You work for a firm specializing in cybersecurity consulting, namely penetration tests,
vulnerability assessments, and regulatory compliance. Artemis has hired your firm to
perform an external penetration test. In preparation for this engagement, you must lead
your team of new pen-testers in a structured walkthrough of the entire test so that:
a) Everyone on the team knows what to do.
b) The amount of time allotted for the actual test is utilized as efficiently as
possible.
c) The clients expectations are met or exceeded.
To accomplish this task, you must perform the following five phases:
1. Perform simulated reconnaissance of the client.
2. Simulate target identification and scans against the external network.
3. Simulate the identification of vulnerabilities.
4. Based on the above, assess the threats and make recommendations.
5. Create two mock reports for the client: An Executive Summary for the clients
senior management, and a Detailed Technical Report for the clients IT staff.
This project is an excellent addition to your portfolio as it demonstrates your
understanding of critical security issues and your skills in identifying and analyzing
threats and vulnerabilities. The project also allows you to speak knowledgeably about
the entire process of performing a pen test, using your project as a reference point.
Each phase will include its own deliverable(s). A full description of what is required can
be found under each phase.
Directions
When planning penetration tests, consulting firms always sit down with the clients key
stakeholders to confirm scope and approach, identify the clients concerns, and set
expectations regarding the outcome. To this end, you have been provided with an
overview of the client and an overview of the clients IT environment. This information is
critical because all risks must be evaluated within their context. The example below
illustrates this concept:

Evaluation of Total Productive Maintenance Implementation in a Selected Semi-...IJMER
Manufacturing industries around the world spend a lot of money on buying new equipment
to increase production but a little is done to get hundred percent output from the machine. However,
because of increased competency levels and demand of quality products at lower costs, buying latest
equipment is not a solution unless it is fully utilized. Therefore machine maintenance and in general,
implementing an appropriate maintenance strategy has become increasingly important for manufacturing
companies to accomplish these requirements. Total productive maintenance (TPM) has become one of the
most popular maintenance strategies to ensure high machine reliability since it is regarded as an integral
part of Lean Manufacturing. Performance evaluation is the most important aspects in the field of
continuous improving of the production process and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) is one of the
justified performance evaluation methods that is popular in the manufacturing industries to assess the
machine’s effectiveness and performance. In this concern, this research work has been conducted in a
selected semi-automated manufacturing industry to study and evaluate the implementation of autonomous
maintenance and planned maintenance pillars of TPM. After the OEE measurement, it has been
benchmarked with the world class OEE. Pareto and statistical analysis of downtimes were performed to
show the most affecting downtime factors hierarchically. Based on the obtained results, maintenance
management and production planning have been suggested to improve their maintenance procedures and
the productivity as well.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
