Activism Project Heather Williams
Information HPV ( Human Papillomavirus) is the most common STI . There are more then 40 types of HPV affecting Men and Women. Most people don’t even know they have HPV Most people who have HPV don’t have symptoms some get genital warts , other types can cause cervical cancer or other types of cancer. HPV is contacted from genital contact Over 20 million Americans are infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million will become newly infected each year.
HPV For my activism project I went downtown Minneapolis and Handed out bumper stickers that said “EWW WORTS” then in small letters it said “HPV IS 100% PREVENTABLE BE SAFE” At the bottom I added a website that I used to get information on so people could check it out. I did my project on HPV because I feel like women and not informed enough about it.
Reactions When I did this project I got many mixed reactions most people would just look at us and with different looks some were angry some were laughing… I feel like it was the typical response people would either take it or keep walking.
Reflections I wanted to do this project because as a young women I didn’t feel like I was well aware of what this STI was and what it was capable of doing.. I have had Cervical Cancer Cells found this year and I wanted to do something that would inform women about protecting themselves.
