6. POEM ANALYSIS
Death
O thou the last fulfilment of life,
Death, my death, come and whisper to me!
Day after day I have kept watch for thee;
for thee have I borne the joys and pangs of life.
All that I am, that I have, that I hope and all my love
have ever flowed towards thee in depth of secrecy.
One final glance from thine eyes
and my life will be ever thine own.
The flowers have been woven
and the garland is ready for the bridegroom.
After the wedding the bride shall leave her home
and meet her lord alone in the solitude of night.
Death as a natural process

9. Rabindranath Tagore
What is the TONE expressed in the poem?
Someone who feels he/she has
come of age, but still feels
unused, ineffective, or hasn’t
found his/her purpose in life yet.
10. Rabindranath Tagore
Unlock the SYMBOL of the “flower” in the poem.
It can also signify a person’s
time, energy, or youthfulness.
In a way, it represents beauty,
too which can fade away
anytime.
All this “flower” that resides in
us implies our God-given gifts
which are deemed useful only
when they are offered to the
One who gave them to us.
12. Rabindranath Tagore
In what ways do we find ourselves useful?
It’s when we use our talents and
opportunities wisely that we
find ourselves useful.
When we start serving other
people and stop serving only our
own selves do we find more
meaning and purpose in life.
By serving other people and
offering our selves to God, we
begin to realize our reason for
living.
Our lives, talents, potentialities,
and even our own time in this
world are ALL IN VAIN when
we don’t give them all back to
the ONE who gave them.
