Jimmy Carter was born in 1924 in Plains, Georgia and grew up on a peanut farm. He served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977-1981. After his presidency, Carter founded The Carter Center in 1982 to promote human rights and resolve international conflicts. He also co-founded Habitat for Humanity in 1984 to help build homes for those in need. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his lifelong efforts to advance peace, democracy, and human rights around the world.

At his Inauguration Speech, Carter
proclaimed that the time for segregation
had ended. "No poor, rural, weak, or black
person," he declared, "should ever have to
bear the additional burden of being
deprived of the opportunity of an
education, a job, or simple justice." He
hung a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr., in
the State Capitol Building and worked for
Civil Rights in Georgia. He also worked
hard to improve our Education system.
