2. Introduction to Database Systems
Week 1
With the fast development of E-commerce, the amount
of information needed has increased dramatically.
The stored data on a database can be used to track
business activities, customer information, and inventory.
When a specific piece of information is needed, a
utility provided by the database is available to query
the data.
A database can be used to categorize and sort raw
data so that it is easier to retrieve them later.
Data stored in the database can also be used to
analyze customer behavior, predict future sales and
business patterns, and then help make decisions.
3. Database Management System
(DBMS)
A DBMS is a software package used to store,
manage, and analyze data.
There are all sorts of DBMSs. Some of them can
handle small amounts of data but are very user
friendly, and even a nonprofessional can handle
them.
4. An enterprise-level DBMS often includes the
following database managing tools:
Database configuration
Database administration
Executing query operations
Creating database components
Defining relationships among database components
Data transformation
Debugging
Networking assistant utilities for a client/server environment
