The Internet originated from ARPANET, a network created by the US Department of Defense in the late 1960s using packet switching technology. In 1983, ARPANET adopted TCP/IP, connecting multiple networks into what became the modern Internet. In 1990, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, the most common interface for accessing online data through websites and hyperlinks. The Internet allows digital information to travel globally through a vast network of cables, computers, servers and other infrastructure connecting organizations, governments and individuals worldwide.
