4. Creating CentOS 7 VM in Virtual Box
Click on “New” to create new Virtual Machine
(VM). Select some name, type as “Linux” and
version as “Red Hat (64-bit)”. We are selecting
“Red Hat (64-bit)” because CentOS 7 is based
on RHEL 7 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7).
After that click on “Next”
5. Creating CentOS 7 VM in Virtual Box
Select RAM size according to your needs & the
amount of total RAM available on HOST OS. In our
case, we have given 3 GB RAM since our HOST OS
RAM is 16 GB & later on we want to implement some
advance concepts on this VM.
click “Next” button.
7. Select Virtual Hard Disk File Type
Select “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” & click “Next”
button.
8. Select Dynamically Allocated or Fixed Size
Select “Dynamically allocated” to make efficient use
of total hard disk space available on HOST OS. click
“Next” button.
9. Select Location & Size of Virtual Hard Disk
Select “20 GB” size instead of recommended 8 GB
size & keep the location default. Again this will
depend upon total available disk on HOST OS & the
amount of additional software we want to install on
VM.
click “Create” button.
10. Select CentOS ISO File
Go to “settings”, then choose “Storage” & give path
of iso.
12. Configure Network Settings
In network settings, select attached to
“NAT”. The advantage of “NAT” is if
internet is running on HOST OS, then
internet will also be available on Guest
VM.
click “OK” button.
14. Start CentOS 7 VM Installation
Select “c7-1804-m” VM & Click on “Start”.
The CentOS 7 screen will be visible as
shown. Select “Install CentOS 7”
15. Select Scaled Mode
Before performing other installation steps, from “View”,
choose “Scaled Mode”. In this mode, you can adjust font
size by increasing/decreasing size of windows.
Select “Switch” button.
16. Select Language
After Selecting “Install CentOS 7”, Language
selection screen will appear
Select default “English” & click on “Continue”
button.
20. Kdump Screen
From installation summary screen, select
Kdump. Uncheck “Enable kdump”.
Click on “Done” after making changes.
21. Select Network & Hostname
From installation summary screen,
select “Network & Hostname”. By
default, Ethernet is disconnect.
Connect it. Keep the hostname at
default setting. We will change it
after installation according to our
needs.
22. Select Network & Hostname
The screen after we connected Ethernet. It automatically received
network settings such as ip address, subnet mask.
Click on “Done” after making changes.
23. Final Installation Summary Screen
Final Installation Summary screen will appear
after making changes.
Click on “Begin Installation” button.
24. Set “root” Password
Installation will start. It will take 5-10 minutes.
Now set “root” password. We will skip user
creation. We can also create users after
installation.
Click on “Done” after setting “root” password.
26. Login Screen
After “Reboot”, Login screen will appear. Enter
login details. As can be seen, we can successfully
login.
