2. Agriculture is the principal source of livelihood for more than 58% of the population of
India. Agriculture provides the bulk of wage goods required by non-agriculture sectors and
most of the raw materials for the industries sector.

community have succeeded in achieving record production of 244.78 million tonnes of food
grains during 2010-11.

8. The agriculture minister has made the plans for targeting new areas of food grain
production which will sustain higher levels of production. It will promote conservation of
agriculture in the high production areas, to maintain current levels of productivity.

9. There are various departments which are spread across the state. It coordinates well with
local level agencies and implementation of Central Sector Schemes in their respective fields.
