BIM is an integrated process that allows architects, engineers, contractors and developers to explore a project
digitally before it's built in a as-is-manner. Coordinated, reliable information is used throughout the process to design
innovative projects, accurately visualize appearance of all technical elements for better communication, and simulate
real-world performance for better understanding of important characteristics such as cost, scheduling, and environmental
impact.
BIM has more than one component. It is not just a 3D tool or yet another software. BIM is a process which goes far
beyond switching to a new application and requires a full understanding of all of its components. It is a completely new
process that redefines the business model internally and externally for the AEC industry.
The BIM process utilizes the ability to build a virtual building with customizable information entries to harvest data
that can be exploited in any given phase of a project from conceptual design through Facility Management and
beyond.

The Department of Management Studies in its forty years of existence has produced Alumni that
have made mark as professional managers and as entrepreneurs. In addition to their
professional achievement, their concern and involvement in AMUÕs welfare is
unparallel. An emotional bond connects them with their alma mater, so much so
that the first contribution to this cause was by an Alumni of AMU.
A sum of Rs. 1 crore was contributed by Mr. Ameer Ahamed. A sum of 10 lac
have also been committed by Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Danish & Mr. Neyaz Shanin
each, two senior alumni of the department. As of now, 20% of the funds have
already been accumulated through contributions, savings of the departments
and grants from the government. It is envisaged that as soon as the
architectural plan is final and estimates are broken down into various modules,
the fund generation shall gain further momentum.
For the AMU Alumni, now is the time to show the great AMU spirit and make a
difference.
The formation of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 1920 was an act of benevolence by a visionary Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Following the footsteps of this visionary, in 2011, the alumni of AMU are coming together to set a milestone for this institution. The
movement is already rolling and aspires to:
• The Department of Management Studies (DMS) to be the leading Management Institute of the country by 2020.
• Provide world class facilities, faculty and infrastructure to the students compared to the likes of top management institutes like
the IIMÕs & IITÕs.
• Introduce the Management Development Program (MDP), designed specifically for promising CEOs.
• Promote entrepreneurship among weaker sections, to enable them to improve their economic well being.
• Build a resource base in Islamic banking and finance that may provide an alternate paradigm of development world over.
Key DevelopmentsKey Constraints
Brief History
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is one of the oldest and
renowned residential Universities of India. It draws students from
all corners of India and abroad. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great
visionary of his time, established the Muhammadan
Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College in 1875. He intended to further the
cause of modern education, especially for the then educationally
backward Muslims of India. The MAO College grew into AMU in
1920. Its twelve faculties, comprising 90+ departments of
studies, offer a broad range of options to the students. Though
mandated to work for the educational and cultural advancement
of Muslims of India, since its very inception, it has kept its doors
open to all communities and classes. It is a microcosm of
composite culture of India and a living testimony of its secular
credentials.
Management Education in AMU
AMU is a pioneer in Management Education in India.
1969 - The University started a three year Diploma in Management.
1972 - A three year part - time Master of Business Administration
(MBA) was introduced.
1976 - Two year full-time MBA was launched.
1985 - Two part-time PG Diploma in Marketing and Personnel
Management were started.
1993 - The Department introduced MBA in International Business
(MBA-IB).
2009- Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance
(PGDIBF) was introduced.
At the higher end, the department has also been offering Ph.D.
program ever since its inception. In addition to the regular
full-time research program, an innovative Doctoral program
(Ph.D. in Business Administration) is being offered in
collaboration with All India Management Association (AIMA),
New Delhi since 1999.
Department of Business Administration (DBA) is in existence for
almost four decades, yet, its potential is far greater than its
performance. The key constraints to its growth are:
• Existing building of the department is inadequate (originally
designed for batch strength of 30 students) and inappropriate.
• AMUÕs ambience is great. Yet, the departmentÕs infrastructure,
amenities hold back the visits of industry professionals, who
are used to world class facilities.
• The present infrastructure of the department is insufficient for
arranging regular in-house training sessions.
• AligarhÕs Pace Work (APW) is often a concern area for those
whom speed of response matters.
• The department possesses only a limited autonomy in
administrative, financial and to some extent academic matters.
This acts a constraint to its speedy growth.
• The Government funds are not forthcoming for capital
expenditures. Therefore, there is a need to explore alternate
source of funds.
Despite the constraints highlighted above, the department
aspires to attain newer and higher level of professional
excellence. Creating state-of-the-art infrastructure shall be the first
step in that direction. Hence, there is need for a New Building
Complex for the Department and Faculty of Management. This
shall pave the way for building a world class management
institute in AMU.
Under the guidance of Prof. P.K. Abdul Aziz (Vice Chancellor),
faculty of Department of Business Administration (DBA) has earned
the distinction of being a pride of AMU. His initiative to collate the
AMU Alumni worldwide to promote the right management
education resulted in building the proposed Management
Complex. With the help of Prof. Abad Ahmad (former Pro Vice
Chancellor of Delhi University) and Mr. Ameer Ahamed (Alumnus of
DBA, AMU), a road map has been laid for the proposed
management complex. The World AMU Alumni Summit
(WAAS2008), held in AMU in 2008 played a catalytic role in
galvanizing the AMU fraternity. The key developments since then are:
• A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between
AMU and Mr. Ameer Ahamed to execute this project.
• The university allocated three acres of land at a prime location,
next to Sir Syed Ahmad KhanÕs house for this project.
• Two committees namely: Steering Committee (chaired by Prof.
P.K. Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor, AMU) and Executive Committee
(chaired by Mr. Ameer Ahamed) have been constituted.
• The proposal of four leading architects was received and
evaluated. After comprehensive review, one of them has been
shortlisted and issued Letter of Intent to start the work. The
selected architects and engineers are DG BIM Consulting Pvt. Ltd
from Chennai, India. They are expected to work in tandem with
TATA Energy Research Institute (TERI) to create a green
building for this complex. The architectural plan is being
prepared and financial estimates are being crystallized.
• The department is working in collaboration with a Strategic
Management Consultancy, Management & Administration
Solutions & Services (MASS), based in New Delhi
(www.massclimb.com) to streamline the Alumni database. This
shall facilitate interaction with Alumni and engage them in
generating funds for this venture.
• Senior faculty members along with involved Alumni plan to
launch fund raising campaigns in India and other countries
wherein AMU Alumni have significant presence. This
fund-raising shall attempt to involve each and every member of
the AMU fraternity, including the present students.
• The building is expected to be operational from the session
2012-13.
