Kermit The Frog Research Paper
Memes have been circulating social media for over centuries now, whether it is defusing tension or raising awareness, they have become an
important part of society. Memes come in all different forms including a picture, video, gif and more. Their point is to appeal to different age groups
socially and relate to them. They are ideas that spread usually through social media that sometimes have a message behind them, however the message
can either be informing or degrading. It all come down to whether that message is effective or not. One of the most known memes today is the "but
thats none of my business" meme used with different pictures of Kermit the Frog. The meme became so famous because of the different taglines users
game it. The phrases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some enjoyed the memes while others thought they featured very vulgar and racist meanings. This internet fad was sometimes accompanied with
captions such as "Some of y'all got college degrees and still mistake there, their and they're... but thats none of my business." (imgflip) Many memes
came out using racial slurs or demeaning a certain group in society that at some point, the memes began to hurt Kermit's reputation. A Disney twitter
account tried to help Kermit's reputation by tweeting a known quote of his stating: "It's nice to be important but its important to be nice." The very
trendy meme quickly began going downhill once it began effecting society in such rude ways that social groups began to speak up. This is when the
meme really began to go downhill and die down. It was never because readers thought they were getting old, but because it started changing its purpose

Human Characters In Strange Creaturess By Susan Blackmore
Understanding the humans is one of the most difficult things one learn in life, form how it works to the science behind it. Susan Blackmore's,
"Strange Creatures" brings to light all the struggles we go through and some of our abilities can be misleading. She begins the passage by
differentiating humans from animals. She also tells her audience about Memes which seem to be successful due to not only their purpose, but their
host's devotion. If a person became easily influenced by a meme they would have been more prone to imitating information. In the passage, Strange
Creatures, she personifies these "memes" calling them selfish and states that their only drive is to be "passed around". Blackmore goes on by
saying, "Instead of thinking of our own creations, and as working for us, we have to think of them as autonomous selfish memes, working only to get
themselves copied. We humans, because of our powers of imitation, have become just physical 'hosts' needed for the memes to get around."
(Blackmore 37) By personifying memes in this specific way she is informing the readers in an indirect technique that memes are working against our
minds. Blackmore's belief in the theory of memes support the idea that humans are oblivious to the power that memes have over them. Imitation could
be as easy as seeing a pair of shoes that you love on television and purchasing a pair that is identical. Applying memes into higher education can
negatively affect individuals trying to obtain a unique

For the foregoing dispute are both economic and philosophical differences. Supporters Kozol – since the 60s has been steadily thinning their number –
are of the opinion that the differences between schools for the top and schools for the lower classes, by definition, undemocratic, and that the U.S.
should strive for absolute equality, even if it will have to cut funding schools in more affluent areas, and support special programs for gifted children.
Opponents Kozol also believe that all this is fraught with egalitarianism that runs counter to the spirit of American life. Is not it should seek to ensure
that children fully realize their potential – even if it means to throw in the rear of their peers academically worse? Is it fair to take away money from
successful schools and throw into the bottomless abyss? Kozol well articulated this position: These people see the word must all be equal, and read
them as no one should be better than others (Kozol, 2005c). The U.S. spends more on education than most countries in the world, but are polarized with
an educational system where high–end schools attract students worldwide and public schools without sufficient care for the poor and recent migrants.

The Hamilton Memes: A Short Story
It was 6:30 pm and Anthony Ramos had just gotten mic'd. As he headed down to the stage for a sound check, he noticed Daveed Diggs coming in the
opposite direction with a large burlap sack.
"Yo Daveed", said Anthony, "What's in the bag?"
"Look and see for yourself." Daveed opened the bag and inside Anthony saw what appeared to be piles and piles of memes. Big memes, small memes,
old memes, young memes, fat memes, skinny memes, memes of every gender identity, race, creed, nationality, and sexual orientation. Doge memes and
Pepe memes and oodles and oodles of Hamilton memes. Daveed's memeage was simply off the charts.
"Jesus Christ" Anthony couldn't believe his eyes, "what are you gonna do with all these memes?"

Richard Dawkins 's The Selfish Gene, And Jonathan Kozol 's...
Introduction This paper is an integrated critique of Richard Dawkins', The Selfish Gene, and Jonathan Kozol's, Savage Inequalities. The premise
of my critique is to compare how these two books by two different authors on two different subjects can relate. I believe this is done by exampling
how Dawkins describes the general make up of individuals and how they interact in their specific groups that they as a species have come up in
over millennia and how Kozol describes that where you are born and raised has predetermined the path that you will be forced down in a cultural and
more specifically educational since for the rest of your life. The bottom line is a place for everyone and every one in their place. Author Backgrounds

of me and was hardest to write, because it was the hardest to live through those experiences. I felt it would initially be seen as discouraging but,
ultimately, sensitive readers would see the resilient and transcendent qualities of children and some mothers in the book–that it would be seen as a
book about the elegant theology of children. That 's what happened finally. The most moving comments about it also pointed to its moral and religious
texture." Jonathan Kozol has remained in the Boston area for the majority of his life and still fights for the rights of minorities and under privileged. A

Susan Blackmore's Essay 'Strange Creatures'
Stop. Look around. Everything around you becomes an integral part of how you live your life. These unique surroundings that encompass individuals
possess a power similar to a triggering chemical catalyst which can cause a chemical reaction to happen that normally would not. This power that the
surroundings of an individual holds exists in the form of cues and these cues act on the behavior of every individual in society. The cues hold an
inherent role on how human behavior is controlled. In Susan Blackmore's essay "Strange Creatures" she explains the imitative intricacies of how
human behavior exists through her meme theory. In a similar attempt to explain behavior, Malcolm Gladwell in his essay "The Power of Context"
discusses human behavior from a social perspective through the Broken Windows theory. Individuals control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This imitative behavior is a meme because "when you imitate someone else, something is passed on" (Blackmore 4) and that something is
classified as a meme. The meme works in a cascade effect "jumping [jump] from brain to brain, likened [likening] them to parasites infecting a
host" (Blackmore 6). The four young men that had confronted Bernard Goetz on the New York Subway showed that they were controlling their
behaviors by all of them showing the same type of manner towards Goetz. These individuals came from a rough background where this type of
behavior was prominent which is where the imitation process described occurred for each of these individuals. This type of behavior being
replicated is explained by the Broken Windows Theory that states that "If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking will conclude
that no one cares and no one is in charge" (Gladwell 141). Their frowned upon behavior was able to exist because at that time in the New York
Subway people were able to get away with certain crimes. This type of behavior that is imitated can thrive if cues become prominent enough since

Pending which end of the information you are on, it can have its advantages and disadvantages of being able obtain information and or having your
information obtained. When someone is looking for a new job they can do a lot of research on a company and be able to obtain a lot of information.
People can find out what the company stands for, what the company values are, along with the number of employees they have and other businesses
that they work, to name a few. On the flip side, an employer can obtain a potential employees information as well just by doing a simple Google
search. Doing such a search can give not only a potential employer different information on you but any random person can find your information
and they can do a lot with it. With a person's information being so easily available, a person who comes across someone else's information can
falsify that person's identity and use their credit to make purchases. Another form of being able to easily obtain information could be referred to as
having any question answered by simply going to Google and typing in whatever your heart desires and 99.9% of the time, your question will be
answered. Having any question, you have answered with a few key strokes, could have its downfalls, pending on what answers you are seeking.

The Adaptive Voice
The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions. Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when
we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of "Speaking in Tongues", knows this first hand when she moved
from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and
use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her
personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was
imitating the Cambridge life style and according to Susan Blackmore's essay "Strange Creatures" humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate
they change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we
change voices we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order for
us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith
says "flexibility is something that requires work if it is to be maintained" (Smith 248). This is something that can be said about all forms of learning.

Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory
We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity, however it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to
precisely define its presence. Rather than being ontologically real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a personal
synthesis of our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time's creation are reflected in our minds, our genetics, and our societies. Thus, by
examining how we continue to advance as a species and society, we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolution to better understand the origins,
and consequences of the phenomena of time and thought.
Martin Heidegger sums his lecture The Concept of Time with the assertion that "Time is Dasein"... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A meme is described by Dawkins as a "unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation," and the occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary
society. Today, "tunes, ideas, catch
–phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches," seemingly last no longer than the blink of
an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than drifting toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be
shifting toward the most fit memes and ideologies. Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer our lives
as a sacrifice for the propagation of our society's ideology. Consequently, societal and ideological evolutions appear to closely follow the three
main Darwinian tenets of evolution. What are colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for their comedic
appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon called memes to show what I am talking about on a small scale.
The first of the Darwinian tenets holds that more individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588). This applies to
memes in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely shared, or parodied, as others. The second and third tenets of
Darwinian evolution provide an answer as to which memes do get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among individuals, and if they vary in
a way to make them more likely to survive, then they will also be more likely to propagate themselves into the next generation (Darwin 540). In terms
of the evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own traits, and, should one have some quality that makes it more appealing to

Networked Rhetorical Forms
Memes, Modes, and Agency in Networked Public Address
While much of networked rhetorical production focuses on the digital recreation of traditional media (e.g. Netflix, online news, video chat), a variety of
rhetorical forms have emerged that are unique to the web (e.g. blogs, message boards, and chatrooms). Of these forms, digital memes stand out as a
communitive technology that defines networked rhetorical styles, and exemplifies the conundrum behind Warnick's call to refigure ethos for
networked environments. Moreover, as a text that is native to networked environments, memes provide an ideal framework to meet Pfister's (2014) call
to use the performances of networked rhetorics to best understand the nature of the contemporary rhetorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although indivudal iterations of memes are deployed by individual rhetors, the ways that a particular iteration may be mobilized are largely
controlled by the form of the meme. The control of potential iterations of a meme gives them a particular modal of agency. Grabill and Pig (2012)
note that as networked texts are increasingly fragmented, remixed, and recirculated agency becomes increasingly difficult to define. When I repost a
video with a new comment is the rhetorical action mine, the creator of the videos or a hybrid of the two. Moreover, many of the fragments will be
anonymous in some capacity. However, the concept of the mode, combines these fragments and diffuse actors into a single assemblage. Because of this
unity, as well as the creating of the conditions of contexts, Virno (2009) notes that the mode, rather than particular iterations, are not only the starting
point of critical analysis, but of the force of the text as

Imagination vs Reality When it comes to imagination versus reality, the processes in the brain are different. But just how different are they? Our mind
can run away with us, leading us to act through suspicion or fear, but we can also use our imagination as a tool to change our life. Humans have
tended to draw a line between reality–that which we "actually" experience–and imagination, seen as a frivolous, dreamlike deflection. For ages,
spiritual contemplatives and artists have taken flights of imagination much more seriously and challenged the firmness of that line. It is just like how
imagination plays a very real role in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Connecting that to Blackmore's idea, we can see that this fundamentalist way of thinking can act as a way of speaking. By means of that,
fundamentalists believe that their claims and ideas are in fact pure knowledge. "This is the concern of fundamentalists of all kinds: religious,
atheistical, scientific, technological, economic, and political. They all seek power–they seek victory" (Berry 22). In this, Berry is describing how all
fundamentalists are able to seek power and control and reach out to more people with their beliefs. This could be the reason why fundamentalist speak
with a strict–close minded way. "People of religion, and not just fundamentalists, can speak with tiresome confidence of knowing what in fact they
don't know but believe" (Berry 22). Nonetheless, under direct relation to how memes are described as "a unit of imitation" (Blackmore 35), it is
evident that fundamentalism gain their powerful hold on the human race through capitalism. Capitalism has used memes to make itself into
something that mirrors a religion. Our place of worship has been transfigured from a church, temple, or synagogue to the workplace. In Blackmore's
text, she talks about how Dawkins wrote that memes can be a part of creating religion: "He wrote about religions as groups of memes with a high
survival value, infecting whole societies with belief in a God or an afterlife" (36). The memes want

Behavioural Norm Of Neo-Nazis
Memes not only affect the group(s) that they target, but also the group that creates them. They reflect and construct norms for the creator group's
behaviour, and Fleishman and Smith effectively illustrate this in the case of neo–Nazis. For example, one behavioural norm that is reinforced within
the neo–Nazi community is the belief in the intellectual superiority of Nazis. The echoes themselves are intended to critique the Jewish community in
an intellectual way, as "The Right Stuff" uses symbolism and pseudo–philosophy to explain the "damaging" effects of Jewish people in society. People
who use the echoes meme also demonstrate this belief in the intellectual superiority of Naziism: one tweet calls journalist Johnathan Weisman a "fool"
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A meme's ability to reinforce norms within a group can also polarize the group's ideas in dangerous ways. In the "It Gets Better" example, participants
of the meme were seen to unintentionally replicate heteronormative ideas and hegemonic norms as they created their own versions of the original
video (1700). However, in a social group that mostly consists of young White men who already benefit from hegemonic norms, memes may push their
ideas to the extreme. The echoes meme is used in association with Trump not just because neo–Nazis support his xenophobic policies, but because they
think that he can make their threats against the Jewish community a reality. This is seen in one tweet that states that angering Trump will cause him to
"fire up the ovens" (Fleishman and Smith). Asserting the intellectual superiority of Nazis also insinuates that their targets, members of the Jewish
community, are inherently less intelligent people and perhaps deserve to be destroyed for this reason. However, although memes are now used to
spread dangerous ideologies, many still do not take the dangerous potential of memes seriously due to their innocuous origins. Although Fleishman and
Smith do not undermine the danger of the echoes symbol, they still said that their staff "got off easy" when targeted by anti–Semites because all they
received was "just a flood of memes", indicating that they do not view memes as a dangerous form of harassment. The use of memes by

Memes and Life
We have three replicators 1. Genes 2. Memes 3. Fremes (I have called them that).
These three replicators are selfish in that they contiuously try to replicate.
In the book by Susan Blackmore, it is mentioned that the reason why we cannot stop thinking is because there are too many memes in our memory that
can find their place in the brain. Hence, we continuously keep on thinking, but at the cost of higher energy requirements. Indeed, thinking utilizes more
brain power which in turn requires more oxygen for which more blood flow is required. Hence, in a nutshell, the more we think the more energy we
consume and the more the genetically weaker our genes become – as we are 'wasting' more energy. What we see here that these... Show more content

Hence, let us see how ideally we should be able to control these memes.
We need to control the gene replication. For this, the simple idea is not to produce offsprings. Simple.
We need to control the meme replication. For this, we need to 'try' to stop thinking. Difficult, but practice makes us perfect, or so they say.
We need to control freme replication. For this, let me take you on this concept of a time machine. The photon clock example. Yes. As our speed
increases, the value of the time decreases. This is all hypothetical and yes, impossible too. Later, I will explain why. Nevertheless, the analogy is
interesting. We are saying that the longer the time the lesser number of 'ticks' and hence smaller the value of time. This way. So the longer the time,
the more the control as you could possibly do things more dexterously. So in order to control fremes, we need to decrease the meme activity and
increase the freme activity, i.e. decrease the value of time as frequency = 1/ Time.
So, what do we collect from all this?
In order to reach a higher state we should ideally be away from the greed of

School Funding Inequality And School Performance
INTRODUCTION
There are diverse and contradictory views on school funding inequalities and school performance. Various research and reports have shown in great
detail beyond this paper's scope that inequalities in school funding does cause different outcomes for school children (Jackson, Johnson, & Persico,
(2015. Unequal funding leads to unequal education: from the start, schools have different resources and means to educate our children (Kozol, (1991).
Other reports suggest that different funding will lead to different social outcomes later on in life (Hyman, (2013); Biddle & Berliner, (2002). The fact
is that schools in poorer neighborhoods all over the united states, funding are limited and they have poorer schools (Kozol, 1991). Schools in richer
areas and especially in suburban white neighborhoods receive higher funding and they have better schools (Kozol, 1991). Some argue that school
funding is not the problem and throwing money at the problem would not be the solution. This is somewhat contradictory because most well–funded
schools are predominantly white. The schools are well lit, classrooms are spacious, student–to–teacher ratio is smaller, labs are well equipped, hot
lunches are plenty, and teachers are experienced and well paid (Kozol (1991); Jackson, Johnson, & Persico, (2015).

Overly Attached Girlfriend
Overtime there has been many images, quotes, phrases that tend to "catch on." Not just in today's society but over multiple decades there have
been different types of "memes." They can range from an image to a lyric in a song. Almost anything really can be classified as a meme. Memes
can have a good or bad influence on a person's emotions. For example, in today's society there is an image of a girl who has a "crazy girlfriend"
look, this is just one of many things a meme can be. A meme is anything that spreads throughout a culture or society and it became popular or even
unpopular. This meme was created after a YouTuber loaded a video onto the internet and does a parody version of the Justin Bieber song "Boyfriend."
After the video goes viral people look at her video and see a link submitted on the video that takes them to the "Overly Attached Girlfriend" thread.
There are many things that can be described in this meme through ethos, pathos, logos and kairos (Don, "Overly Attached Girlfriend"). The ethos
aspect of this meme is that she actually is a crazy girlfriend or an overly attached girlfriend that will is totally insane just based on the way she looks

audience of anything that stimulates emotion. Like I previously stated earlier in the paper, a meme can bring a good or bad feeling to someone. This
picture does so perfectly. This meme would most likely bring up an ex–girlfriend or boyfriend of your own or of a friend's ex. When viewing this

OCD is "a phrase that gets to the existential core of worry, a clenched, demonic doubting that overrides evidence, empiricism, plain common sense"
(Slater234). The meme theory states that a meme consists of "everything that is passed from person to person" (Blackmore 37). In "Strange Creatures"
by Susan Blackmore and "Who Holds the Clicker?" by Lauren Slater both authors discuss the control humans have over their minds. In "Who Holds
the Clicker" Lauren Slater discusses DBS (deep brain simulation), which is a type of psychosurgery in which electrical impulses are sent to certain
portions of the brain to control and change the emotions one feels. She discusses both the positive and negatives of deep brain simulation through a
specific patient named Mario and also presents the control DBS can have over one's mind. Similarly, Blackmore in "Strange Creatures" discusses the
meme theory, which consists of any idea that is passed down from person to person. Both authors provide information that allows people to draw
conclusions relating to why people do not have control over their minds. Even though some people believe that humans do have control over their
minds, Blackmore and Slater both successfully portray that in actuality humans do not have any control over their minds because human thoughts and
ideas are unoriginal products of external forces, many human thoughts occur at deeper level of consciousness, and

Memes: The Parasite Living Off of Mankind In Susan Blackmore's paper, "Strange Creatures", she claims that humans are nothing but hosts to
metaphorical parasites called 'memes'. A meme is something that is passed from person through person by imitation. Blackmore's theory of memetics
suggests that memes are feeding off of humans in terms of wanting to be continued without any benefit to the individual. This theory is comparable to
human nature and to the many aspects of what makes humans human.
Comparable to Darwin's theory of evolution, memes also experience the "survival of the fittest" concept. Blackmore conveys the idea that the memes

When scientists and researchers make an observation and realize that there is more to be discovered about a certain topic, they begin to ask questions
about it. For example, when subatomic particles were discovered many scientists were looking for the location of the different subatomic particles.
Soon enough, there were several different models of how the particles were arranged and the relative location of where each particle was. The idea
that there are such things as subatomic particles and their models are memes. In this instance, the meme is shown as an idea that had come across
multiple people at once.
Memes are also responsible for many technological advancements. The idea of a front–facing camera instead of the standard camera was spread
because of the convenience it offered. In terms of memes, the meme with the standard camera evolved into a meme with both the front–facing camera

Susan Blackmore The Memes Machine
Susan Blackmore's idea of memetics is controversial because not many believe it is scientific at all. A meme is "an idea, behavior, style, or usage
that spreads from person to person within a culture" (Blackmore, 7). Blackmore describes this as singing "Happy Birthday" to someone or a
handshake could be a meme. A meme is a form of imitation. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some differences between the two. The
idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in
the ways that they see fit. Throughout the book Blackmore makes valid points about how memes have coexisted with evolution, which indeed would
make the memetics a science. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is defined as imitation from one person to another. Humans are capable of imitation from birth. Children are taught from imitation, more
specifically memes. According to Charles Darwin's Theory of natural selection, creatures evolve because adaptations in the environment change and the
offspring of these species survive and better adapt, which is evolution. Blackmore then refers to the evolutionary algorithm as described by Dennett.
Evolution in general in the science world relies on three requisites– variation, selection, and heredity. The algorithm solely relies on something being
copied and this is referred to by Dawkins, as a replicator. Specifically, a replicator relies on something being copied. It is defined as "any unit of
information which is copied with variations or errors, and whose nature influences its own probability of replication" (Blackmore,

Immediately after the publicizing of the so–called "ban," participants across the internet made memes commenting on this turn of events. Russians
responded primarily through memes that tangentially referred to the ban without targeting any particular figure (Figure 3). Most prominent was a
screen capture from Back to the Future II where Marty tells Doc Brown they must return to the past. Brown replies that this is impossible because
"The past has been blocked by @roscomnadzor." Engaging in a typical function of memes, the image serves as a commonplace whereby the facial

The majority of these memes intertextually linked Putin to more popular internet memes (Figure 4). One meme put the backward hat of "Scumbag

images, distributing memes from inside a trench coat. Borrowing from the larger ethos of the memes, these iterations argue an effort to regulate
discourse on the internet is fruitless as the restrictions will anger users, who would view Putin as a "scumbag" and promote further circulation –
evidenced by Pepe promising a new black–market. Even the previously circulating Putin–based meme "Give that Man a Cookie" joined the
commentary, proclaiming, "Give that meme–maker life imprisonment." This iteration highlights that Putin's very nature is authoritarian, as his first
response to criticism is imprisonment, framing the anti–meme clarification as another example of the non–democratic reality of Russian

"As the Secretary–General of the United Nations, an organization of the 147 member states who represent almost all of the human inhabitants of the
planet earth. I send greetings on behalf of the people of our planet. We step out of our solar system into theuniverse seeking only peace and friendship,

The day European stepped on African continent and began enslaving the black Africans was doomed to be one of the most disgraceful days in the
history of mankind. When they were sold as tools, nobody considered them as our fellow humans. It was their poverty and backwardness that made
them unable to fight against. So far as we can see, similar tragedies happened again and again throughout the history of humanity. In the final analysis,
the reason is that we human beings lack a sense of sympathy towards aliens, especially when they are much weaker than us. So do extraterrestrials, who
might be mush stronger than us. By rights, having a so good understanding of human history and human nature, we should know how dangerous to

Analysis Of Strange Memes, By Sherry Turkle
Humans have mastered the skill of copying others. Mostly everyone follows what they were shown; they copy whatever they were taught. This is the
idea of memes being passed down. Susan Blackmore describes how memes have taken over our lives. She talks in her article, "Strange Creatures,"
what memes are and how the theory of "selfish meme theory" is being shown throughout living creatures. Meme is the idea of imitating someone else's
thoughts. "Selfish" is implied as thoughts being passed down and trying to dominate other thoughts. Memes spread randomly and humans continue to
use those same thoughts. Mostly no one believes in creating their own thoughts. She describes how the thought of copying has been passed down and
the idea that occurs is spread throughout everyone. Sherry Turkle specifically talks about the use of technology in her article, "Alone Together".
Everyone uses technology whether it is good for them or not. Turkle describes how everyone has become desperate to their gadgets. She talks more
about people becoming dependent and how people want technology. Blackmore's theory applies to Turkle's examples of the use of technology. The
idea that the use of technology is a meme. Everyone believes the use of technology is necessary for daily lives since it has become normal to them.
Therefore, the use of meme theory is being shown in society's daily lives; this makes the outcome of the use of meme theory scary since everyone is

Understanding Memes In Human Genes
Understanding Memes
Genes are the genetic code that allows us to pass down and spread our traits and DNA to our descendants. It is constantly changing as we adapt and
multiply our species, inheriting and letting go of certain traits to implement into the next person. Much like these genes, memes are also the sort of
"code" that humans use to link our ideas to each other. Ameme can be an idea, an image, a sound, a phrase, or any combination of these. Their means
of transportation along our web of knowledge is (or forms of) language. Before modern language, it was hard to demonstrate abstract ideas and pass
them down to the next generation, but now, it is commonplace.
Where did the term "meme" originate from?
The history of the term meme is fairly recent, but from the point of view modern society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now while this may be true of the meme modified specifically for that purpose, its origins were not fueled by any sort of hate or racism. This is a
prime example of how the mutation of memes can be suited and selected for purposes, much like how animals inherit certain genes to help them adapt
to a specific environment. People with common interests or opinions can take a common idea, and adapt or twist it to make it suit their purposes,
making the idea itself take on a biased view among others unaware of the original intent of said idea. While not common amongst political and
corporate organizations, the modification and adaptation of memes has been a way to express personal thoughts in a way others can relate for quite
some time within certain internet communities. Memes don't typically come about for specialized purposes, but they can inherit traits to end up doing

Memes In Richard Dawkins's The Selfish Gene
When identifying what a meme is, one should consider the fact that a meme is not just a circulating picture of a cat deemed grumpy. A meme is
much more complex in the sense that exist as many different entities ranging from new concepts to new slang words, to even a development of a new
behavior that has become popular within a culture. Richard Dawkins, author of the book "The Selfish Gene" who is also credited for the creation of
the word "memetics" states that memes act as units that house ideas, symbols, and behaviors that are distributed from person to person via word of
mouth, tv, magazines. According to Dawkins's theory, there is a tremendously positive correlation between cultural evolution and biological evolution.

Persuasive Essay : ' The Selfish Gene '
What is one of the first things you'll hear about working in the TV industry? That it's a good, exciting career path? That you'll work with great people,
have great, varied experiences, or earn a living doing what you love? No.
We are told that it is cut–throat. And more often than not, we are told that the only way we will be successful is if we act the same. We can't even be
nice. Ever heard the words "too nice for this industry" aimed at somebody? "I know work can get busy, you are ambitious and driven, but that's no
excuse for rudeness or throwing someone under the bus. Maintain your dignity, remember Karma's a bitch." (Wright, blog, 2014)
The world we live in goes about success in the wrong way. According to Richard
Dawkins' 'The Selfish Gene', we are all born with inherently selfish genes, in–built for our survival: to self–preserve, to keep oneself safe from
predators, to get what you need and keep it to survive. But this does not fit in our current society. As Dawkins states himself, "Let us try to teach
generosity and altruism, because we are born selfish. Let us understand what our own selfish genes are up to, because we may then at least have the
chance to upset their designs, something no other species has ever aspired to." (Dawkins, 1976, p.3) Now, does this mean I'm asking you to be utterly,
completely selfless? No. There is something about this quote that is wrong.
It is not selfishness we need to get rid of, it's exploitation. "The dictionary defines

Comparing Tomorrowland, Produced And Directed By Brad Bird
Introduction One idea can influence the world, but how far can that idea go if it is spread by one person? Could an idea also present a reality better
than the one humanity is accustomed to today? The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as well
as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future.
Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager who seems to be one of the only people in the world
with the desire to find positive ways to affect the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything bad that
can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind
creates technologies surpassing those of the real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey's world is in trouble and that they must go to
Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He
shows Casey one of his inventions in his home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to accept what
Frank's machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey might be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her
and Athena to Tomorrowland. There, Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland,

The Reality Of Visual Culture
When talking about a simple image, what else do we know about Visual Culture? Well, have you ever been on the internet? Of course you've have.
The internet is where modern Visual Culture lives. Mostly through jokes, and these jokes online are usually called memes. Now what is a meme? Well
it originally comes noted from the book The Selfish Gene (1989) Where a British scientist name Richard Dawkins stated, a meme was "A unit of
cultural transmission." With the understanding of a meme, what does it do? Well after watching theYouTubevideo Visual Culture Online (PBS, 2011)
they spoked of one person making one funny Photoshop of a picture of Leo walking, someone else would like to contribute and try to make a funnier
version, and then you end up having a large body of these Leo photos all over the internet. Memes are something that brings people together and makes
them want to collaborate.
With memes being the funny side of Visual Culture, what about the video side? Visual Culture is in many forms of media, such as movies, TV
Show, and even an internet video. The best thing that represents Visual Culture as a video form would be YouTube. YouTube is a website where you
can upload any video you like. Jeff Bullas a researcher for jeffbullas.com, found that 60 hours of videos are uploaded every minute, or one hour of
video is uploaded to YouTube every second. Over 4 billion videos are viewed a day (Bullas, 2012) that's a lot of viewers and videos uploaded. YouTube

Social Media And Its Effects On Society
Social media comes in many different varieties, but within those varieties there is one constant; hiding behind a computer screen. Social media allows
people to not see the emotions of others when communicating with them. When humans do not see the reactions of others, and have the ability to hide
behind the screen, it tends to be common for comments to be aggressive, uneducated, and/or rude. Arguments and debates have the ability to be civil,
formal, and respectful of the opposing side and can end in a peaceful disagreement. Social media gives users the freedom to post things anonymously
and without seeing the other people face–to–face, causing many fallacies to be used within debates online. Many people do not directly post their...

their choosing and it will still be considered a meme. The internet gives a way for users to post their opinion without saying what they think directly
through meme images on social media by reposting or sharing the picture. This freedom of sharing any opinion can be taken too far with hurtful

Mutations in Nature and Culture Essay
Mutations in Nature and Culture
Many other words, both positive and negative, spring to mind when one hears the word "mutation." In a scientific sense, one might think of the random
variations that lead to evolution in species. In a sci–fi/ horror flick sense, one might think of a vicious monster that after contact with some radioactive
substance became terribly disfigured. But rarely do we associate mutations with ideas pervasive to our culture. Daniel Dennett suggests that memes
undergo a certain kind of mutation that is inherent to the creative evolution of culture.
The most important distinction to be made between mutation as it applies to biological evolution, and how it applies to creative evolution is the

This may account for some of the messiness involved in trying to examine how mutations of creative thought occur; they are constantly crossing over
between cultures. There is no neat diagram as with the branching of species to demonstrate the path that, for example, a thought may take on its way to
becoming a theory.
This begs the question, then, how much control can the individual hope to exert over the way that ideas combine and affect one another within his or
her own mind? Dennett writes that our ideas are limited by our personal histories and experiences (450), but this limitation is not conscious on the
part of the thinker. Perhaps what are limited by our experiences are not the ideas we can possess at a given moment in time, but the way in which
these experiences lead us to organize our thoughts. If we attribute creativity to a disorganized trading of memes in space, then how much can we credit
an artist with her own brilliant work? But if instead we regard the thinker as organizer of thoughts, creative mutations occur as a result of a new method
of organization based on what Dennett calls the thinker's "style."
"Each particular creator, each novelist or composer or computer programmer, is sped along through Design Space by a particular idiosyncratic set of
habits known as style. It is style that both constrains and enables us, giving a positive direction to our

Evolution and Virality of Memes
How have memes evolved and why do they go viral? Memes did not originate from the internet contrary to popular belief, but have actually been
appearing in culture for centuries. The main difference between internet memes and pre–internet memes is the medium in which they go viral. Ameme
has two definitions; Dawkins definition, and internet memes. Charles Dawkins first coined the term meme in 1976 in his book The Selfish Gene, and
was referring to cultural ideas, beliefs, fashion, practices, etc. In his book he came up with a theory that memes develops similar to how genes spread
in organisms. Memes transmit from one mind to another through speech, writing, or any form of communication. Likewise genes ... Show more content

Later, in about the Third to Fifth century, Christians adopted this practice as their own. The meme had spread and mutated to accommodate both
cultures. Likewise, Sator Square has still survived to this day. However, it's not as popular as it once used to be nor used as much. Additionally Kilroy
was Here is another meme that spread similarly to internet memes, and the sator square. James J. Kilroy created it during World War II. He inspected
the bottoms of warships under construction, and after he had completed the inspection he would write in chalk "Kilroy was Here" on the bottom of

The image that's associated with this phrase is a bald headed man with a large nose peeking over a ledge however, predates the phrase. There's
conflicting ideas to who drew it first, but most people think the British cartoonist George Edward Chatterton drew it in 1938. Somehow this image
united with the phrase, and formed the "Kilroy was Here" meme. Subsequently this spawned a joke within the GIs of America. It became a challenge
to place this phrase and picture in unusual places, and is said to be on Mt. Everest, the Statue of Liberty, and on the moon. Both of these

relationship he was in (Feldman, 10). Why would he expect anything but criticisms, having drawn from his own personal experiences. Of course he
obviously miscalculated the demographics of the comic and how people would have approached it, especially in the long run, but Buckley was angry
about the memes at first but he eventually found them "quite amusing," (Feldman, 15). Buckley is now flattered that he created something that has

Holding True to Convictions in a World of Differences Essays
INTRODUCTION We live in a world full of people who hold different beliefs and convictions. Many of them may even be different from our own.
For example John Haught, in his book God and the New Atheism shares his belief that, "Science alone can tell us what religion is really all about,
and it can provide better answers than theology to every important question people ask" (x). Berger and Zijderveld, on the other hand, argue in In
Praise of Doubt that, "Whether God does or does not exist in cosmic reality is another question. And this question cannot be answered by the empirical
sciences: God cannot be the object of an experiment" (1).

evidence of the evils of religion, but on the other they now excoriate theological moderates who espouse the new spirit of tolerance. Moreover, they
seem not to notice that the very same liberal tolerance in modern Western history that influenced the Catholic Church to change its stand on religious
freedom provides the cultural space and freedom of expression by which the new atheists themselves are permitted to vent their own literalist ideas"
(Haught 37, 38). Here, Haught points out the intolerance of the new atheists and one can easily see that he does not approve.
In the book In Praise of Doubt, Berger and Zijderveld argue that it is possible for individuals to hold moral certainty about societal values without
succumbing to the extremes of either 1) the new atheists' fundamentalism (complete lack of certainty) or 2) relativism (absolute certainty). One of their
main points throughout the majority of this book is the idea that modernity leads to plurality. They explain, "Modernization

Humor makes it easier to acknowledge a sad truth. When an image, a symbol, a phrase, or a video is made humorous, it becomes a medium to pass
out the information. The medium can be of various kinds. Some of them are so funny that makes it horrible to the readers. Some emphasize on
contemporary issues to create cultural mass awareness. And, some are so humorous that it reveals some bitter truth. Those media are called as memes.
There are few examples of such humorous memes related to college that has been spread rapidly through the online media .Those memes crave reader's

One of the most popular examples of college meme is "SpongeBob" meme. With this particular meme, the author is actually trying to portray the

Terrorism And Its Effect On Human Survival
A) There are several issues raised in this question. There is a debate as to whether humans are a cooperating species or a selfish species. Humans
cooperate instinctively for survival because this is beneficial to them. It can be argued that human beings cooperate for a reason because cooperation
has many benefits; it aids survival. Cooperation evolved as a result of the benefits attached to it, this could be motivated entirely by the self–interest of
the individual. According to Richard Dawkins "our genes may instruct us to be selfish, but we are not necessarily compelled to obey them all our
lives" , if we choose to live in a society that is safe, we have no choice but to cooperate, as cooperation over time has allowed humans to survive.
Unfortunately, life is full of competition; this gives rise to competition between groups which promotes cooperation within groups. Cooperation within
groups can give rise to destructive ventures, and can lead to decision and risks that are not properly reasoned through hence threatening human
survival, this is one disadvantage of cooperation. According to Robert Axelrod, this is the security dilemma in which "nations often seek their own
security through means which challenges the security of others, this problem arises in such areas as escalation of local conflict and armed races"
It is argued that humans are a cooperating species and that cooperation is not just a by–product of competition but cooperation is inherent in humans,

Memes Research Paper
Notably, innate human abilities and ideas permit culture to determine the favored genes, which in turn can reinforce the culture. The relationship
between culture and genes can be viewed as a vicious circle. To comprehend, the significance of culture, it is essential to view it as an independent
organism, a parasite– a meme! The term "meme" was conceived by Richard Dawkins as "information copied from person to person by imitation"(as
cited in Bull, Holland, and Blackmore, 2000, p. 2). Memes are ideas, beliefs, practices, etc. In order, for these memes to be successful parasites, their
hosts (the humans) have to be successful at this imitation process. This complex social behavior is a consequence of our possession of a very
sophisticated genetic mechanism: the mirror neuron system! Mirror neurons are a fairly recent neuroscientific discovery that affirms that the same

Memes can be adopted independent of the consequences on the host (Bull et al, 2000). Their fast paced growth is beneficial to them, because by
increasing their rate of evolution, memes can minimize the impacts of their hosts on them, as they do not allow enough time for the genes to have
enough evolutionary progressions to which the memes will have to re–adapt (Bull, Holland, and Blackmore, 2000). Genes will have less time to
re–adapt to these memes and exert pressure on them. Therefore, it is obvious that we are always in danger of adopting memes that are detrimental to
our survival. Take smoking, drug abuse, and alcohol, for example! Those are some powerful memes but they are in no way positive or essential to our
evolution. Yet, they spread under social influence. Genes are immune systems and memes are the viruses. Sometimes, no matter how hard the immune

Kermit The Frog Research Paper

  • 1. Kermit The Frog Research Paper Memes have been circulating social media for over centuries now, whether it is defusing tension or raising awareness, they have become an important part of society. Memes come in all different forms including a picture, video, gif and more. Their point is to appeal to different age groups socially and relate to them. They are ideas that spread usually through social media that sometimes have a message behind them, however the message can either be informing or degrading. It all come down to whether that message is effective or not. One of the most known memes today is the "but thats none of my business" meme used with different pictures of Kermit the Frog. The meme became so famous because of the different taglines users game it. The phrases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some enjoyed the memes while others thought they featured very vulgar and racist meanings. This internet fad was sometimes accompanied with captions such as "Some of y'all got college degrees and still mistake there, their and they're... but thats none of my business." (imgflip) Many memes came out using racial slurs or demeaning a certain group in society that at some point, the memes began to hurt Kermit's reputation. A Disney twitter account tried to help Kermit's reputation by tweeting a known quote of his stating: "It's nice to be important but its important to be nice." The very trendy meme quickly began going downhill once it began effecting society in such rude ways that social groups began to speak up. This is when the meme really began to go downhill and die down. It was never because readers thought they were getting old, but because it started changing its purpose and was no longer ... • 2. Human Characters In Strange Creaturess By Susan Blackmore Understanding the humans is one of the most difficult things one learn in life, form how it works to the science behind it. Susan Blackmore's, "Strange Creatures" brings to light all the struggles we go through and some of our abilities can be misleading. She begins the passage by differentiating humans from animals. She also tells her audience about Memes which seem to be successful due to not only their purpose, but their host's devotion. If a person became easily influenced by a meme they would have been more prone to imitating information. In the passage, Strange Creatures, she personifies these "memes" calling them selfish and states that their only drive is to be "passed around". Blackmore goes on by saying, "Instead of thinking of our own creations, and as working for us, we have to think of them as autonomous selfish memes, working only to get themselves copied. We humans, because of our powers of imitation, have become just physical 'hosts' needed for the memes to get around." (Blackmore 37) By personifying memes in this specific way she is informing the readers in an indirect technique that memes are working against our minds. Blackmore's belief in the theory of memes support the idea that humans are oblivious to the power that memes have over them. Imitation could be as easy as seeing a pair of shoes that you love on television and purchasing a pair that is identical. Applying memes into higher education can negatively affect individuals trying to obtain a unique ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dawkins and Kozol Essay darwin Running Head: DAWKINS AND KOZOL The Meme concept from Dawkins and the Educational Funding concept from Kozol Kevin Edmundson Oklahoma University LSTD–5013 Interdisciplinary Foundations The Meme concept from Dawkins and the Educational Funding concept from Kozol Introduction Jonathan Kozol, one of the most zealous advocates of the idea, wrote a series of books, which depict below the critical school, where children from poor, mostly belonging to national minorities families, teaching staff consists of an inexperienced youth, and indifferent to their cause losers who care only about maintaining discipline, stimulating the imagination of children are neglected. Kozol points out that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the foregoing dispute are both economic and philosophical differences. Supporters Kozol – since the 60s has been steadily thinning their number – are of the opinion that the differences between schools for the top and schools for the lower classes, by definition, undemocratic, and that the U.S. should strive for absolute equality, even if it will have to cut funding schools in more affluent areas, and support special programs for gifted children. Opponents Kozol also believe that all this is fraught with egalitarianism that runs counter to the spirit of American life. Is not it should seek to ensure that children fully realize their potential – even if it means to throw in the rear of their peers academically worse? Is it fair to take away money from successful schools and throw into the bottomless abyss? Kozol well articulated this position: These people see the word must all be equal, and read them as no one should be better than others (Kozol, 2005c). The U.S. spends more on education than most countries in the world, but are polarized with an educational system where high–end schools attract students worldwide and public schools without sufficient care for the poor and recent migrants. The education expert Jonathan Kozol states that the U.S. education system is full of savage inequalities. In other words, it only matters how much is spent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Hamilton Memes: A Short Story It was 6:30 pm and Anthony Ramos had just gotten mic'd. As he headed down to the stage for a sound check, he noticed Daveed Diggs coming in the opposite direction with a large burlap sack. "Yo Daveed", said Anthony, "What's in the bag?" "Look and see for yourself." Daveed opened the bag and inside Anthony saw what appeared to be piles and piles of memes. Big memes, small memes, old memes, young memes, fat memes, skinny memes, memes of every gender identity, race, creed, nationality, and sexual orientation. Doge memes and Pepe memes and oodles and oodles of Hamilton memes. Daveed's memeage was simply off the charts. "Goddamnit" Jasmine said, "I told our stage manager J.Phillip Basset that we need to get an exterminator for all of the mysterious ghosts in here!" "I must go." Lin was determined, "Jasmine, if I don't come back from the abyss of memes, tell my wife I love her. Preferably in freestyle rap form." "Whatever" said Jasmine "I am so done with this whole situation" as she walked away she muttered " 'Meme wizard"... 'Fuck outta here!" ** * That night Lin didn't go out to sign autographs. He instead descended with a flashlight into the dark depths of the theatre to find the Meme Wizard. When he found him, it was crazy. He flashed his light onto his face and it was instantly familiar. • 5. Richard Dawkins 's The Selfish Gene, And Jonathan Kozol 's... Introduction This paper is an integrated critique of Richard Dawkins', The Selfish Gene, and Jonathan Kozol's, Savage Inequalities. The premise of my critique is to compare how these two books by two different authors on two different subjects can relate. I believe this is done by exampling how Dawkins describes the general make up of individuals and how they interact in their specific groups that they as a species have come up in over millennia and how Kozol describes that where you are born and raised has predetermined the path that you will be forced down in a cultural and more specifically educational since for the rest of your life. The bottom line is a place for everyone and every one in their place. Author Backgrounds Richard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jonathon Kozol is a Rhodes Scholar and Harvard Graduate. Upon graduating from university Kozol spent some time in the poorer neighborhoods of Paris, France before returning to his home town of Boston pursue a life in academics. Dr Kozol is also an accomplished author publishing several books to include, Savage Inequalities. Regardless, to Quote Dr. Kozol, "of all my books, Amazing Grace means the most to me. It took the most out of me and was hardest to write, because it was the hardest to live through those experiences. I felt it would initially be seen as discouraging but, ultimately, sensitive readers would see the resilient and transcendent qualities of children and some mothers in the book–that it would be seen as a book about the elegant theology of children. That 's what happened finally. The most moving comments about it also pointed to its moral and religious texture." Jonathan Kozol has remained in the Boston area for the majority of his life and still fights for the rights of minorities and under privileged. A defining moment in Kozol 's life occurred in 1964 when, shortly after returning to Boston to pursue an academic career, he heard about three young civil–rights workers who had been murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. He had never been political or had any involvement in race issues, but he was greatly affected by the news. Soon after hearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Susan Blackmore's Essay 'Strange Creatures' Stop. Look around. Everything around you becomes an integral part of how you live your life. These unique surroundings that encompass individuals possess a power similar to a triggering chemical catalyst which can cause a chemical reaction to happen that normally would not. This power that the surroundings of an individual holds exists in the form of cues and these cues act on the behavior of every individual in society. The cues hold an inherent role on how human behavior is controlled. In Susan Blackmore's essay "Strange Creatures" she explains the imitative intricacies of how human behavior exists through her meme theory. In a similar attempt to explain behavior, Malcolm Gladwell in his essay "The Power of Context" discusses human behavior from a social perspective through the Broken Windows theory. Individuals control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This imitative behavior is a meme because "when you imitate someone else, something is passed on" (Blackmore 4) and that something is classified as a meme. The meme works in a cascade effect "jumping [jump] from brain to brain, likened [likening] them to parasites infecting a host" (Blackmore 6). The four young men that had confronted Bernard Goetz on the New York Subway showed that they were controlling their behaviors by all of them showing the same type of manner towards Goetz. These individuals came from a rough background where this type of behavior was prominent which is where the imitation process described occurred for each of these individuals. This type of behavior being replicated is explained by the Broken Windows Theory that states that "If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge" (Gladwell 141). Their frowned upon behavior was able to exist because at that time in the New York Subway people were able to get away with certain crimes. This type of behavior that is imitated can thrive if cues become prominent enough since "Memes spread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Media HUM/186 Social Media Paper Candice Triplett 10/3/17 Pending which end of the information you are on, it can have its advantages and disadvantages of being able obtain information and or having your information obtained. When someone is looking for a new job they can do a lot of research on a company and be able to obtain a lot of information. People can find out what the company stands for, what the company values are, along with the number of employees they have and other businesses that they work, to name a few. On the flip side, an employer can obtain a potential employees information as well just by doing a simple Google search. Doing such a search can give not only a potential employer different information on you but any random person can find your information and they can do a lot with it. With a person's information being so easily available, a person who comes across someone else's information can falsify that person's identity and use their credit to make purchases. Another form of being able to easily obtain information could be referred to as having any question answered by simply going to Google and typing in whatever your heart desires and 99.9% of the time, your question will be answered. • 9. The Adaptive Voice The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions. Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of "Speaking in Tongues", knows this first hand when she moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to Susan Blackmore's essay "Strange Creatures" humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says "flexibility is something that requires work if it is to be maintained" (Smith 248). This is something that can be said about all forms of learning. Whether it is learning a ... • 10. Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity, however it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to precisely define its presence. Rather than being ontologically real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a personal synthesis of our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time's creation are reflected in our minds, our genetics, and our societies. Thus, by examining how we continue to advance as a species and society, we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolution to better understand the origins, and consequences of the phenomena of time and thought. Martin Heidegger sums his lecture The Concept of Time with the assertion that "Time is Dasein"... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A meme is described by Dawkins as a "unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation," and the occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary society. Today, "tunes, ideas, catch –phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches," seemingly last no longer than the blink of an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than drifting toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be shifting toward the most fit memes and ideologies. Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer our lives as a sacrifice for the propagation of our society's ideology. Consequently, societal and ideological evolutions appear to closely follow the three main Darwinian tenets of evolution. What are colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for their comedic appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon called memes to show what I am talking about on a small scale. The first of the Darwinian tenets holds that more individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588). This applies to memes in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely shared, or parodied, as others. The second and third tenets of Darwinian evolution provide an answer as to which memes do get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among individuals, and if they vary in a way to make them more likely to survive, then they will also be more likely to propagate themselves into the next generation (Darwin 540). In terms of the evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own traits, and, should one have some quality that makes it more appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Networked Rhetorical Forms Memes, Modes, and Agency in Networked Public Address While much of networked rhetorical production focuses on the digital recreation of traditional media (e.g. Netflix, online news, video chat), a variety of rhetorical forms have emerged that are unique to the web (e.g. blogs, message boards, and chatrooms). Of these forms, digital memes stand out as a communitive technology that defines networked rhetorical styles, and exemplifies the conundrum behind Warnick's call to refigure ethos for networked environments. Moreover, as a text that is native to networked environments, memes provide an ideal framework to meet Pfister's (2014) call to use the performances of networked rhetorics to best understand the nature of the contemporary rhetorical ... Although indivudal iterations of memes are deployed by individual rhetors, the ways that a particular iteration may be mobilized are largely controlled by the form of the meme. When I repost a video with a new comment is the rhetorical action mine, the creator of the videos or a hybrid of the two. Moreover, many of the fragments will be anonymous in some capacity. However, the concept of the mode, combines these fragments and diffuse actors into a single assemblage. But just how different are they? Our mind can run away with us, leading us to act through suspicion or fear, but we can also use our imagination as a tool to change our life. Humans have tended to draw a line between reality–that which we "actually" experience–and imagination, seen as a frivolous, dreamlike deflection. For ages, spiritual contemplatives and artists have taken flights of imagination much more seriously and challenged the firmness of that line. It is just like how imagination plays a very real role in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By means of that, fundamentalists believe that their claims and ideas are in fact pure knowledge. "This is the concern of fundamentalists of all kinds: religious, atheistical, scientific, technological, economic, and political. They all seek power–they seek victory" (Berry 22). In this, Berry is describing how all fundamentalists are able to seek power and control and reach out to more people with their beliefs. This could be the reason why fundamentalist speak with a strict–close minded way. "People of religion, and not just fundamentalists, can speak with tiresome confidence of knowing what in fact they don't know but believe" (Berry 22). Nonetheless, under direct relation to how memes are described as "a unit of imitation" (Blackmore 35), it is evident that fundamentalism gain their powerful hold on the human race through capitalism. Capitalism has used memes to make itself into something that mirrors a religion. Our place of worship has been transfigured from a church, temple, or synagogue to the workplace. In Blackmore's text, she talks about how Dawkins wrote that memes can be a part of creating religion: "He wrote about religions as groups of memes with a high survival value, infecting whole societies with belief in a God or an afterlife" (36). They reflect and construct norms for the creator group's behaviour, and Fleishman and Smith effectively illustrate this in the case of neo–Nazis. For example, one behavioural norm that is reinforced within the neo–Nazi community is the belief in the intellectual superiority of Nazis. The echoes themselves are intended to critique the Jewish community in an intellectual way, as "The Right Stuff" uses symbolism and pseudo–philosophy to explain the "damaging" effects of Jewish people in society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A meme's ability to reinforce norms within a group can also polarize the group's ideas in dangerous ways. In the "It Gets Better" example, participants of the meme were seen to unintentionally replicate heteronormative ideas and hegemonic norms as they created their own versions of the original video (1700). However, in a social group that mostly consists of young White men who already benefit from hegemonic norms, memes may push their ideas to the extreme. The echoes meme is used in association with Trump not just because neo–Nazis support his xenophobic policies, but because they think that he can make their threats against the Jewish community a reality. This is seen in one tweet that states that angering Trump will cause him to "fire up the ovens" (Fleishman and Smith). Asserting the intellectual superiority of Nazis also insinuates that their targets, members of the Jewish community, are inherently less intelligent people and perhaps deserve to be destroyed for this reason. However, although memes are now used to spread dangerous ideologies, many still do not take the dangerous potential of memes seriously due to their innocuous origins. Although Fleishman and Smith do not undermine the danger of the echoes symbol, they still said that their staff "got off easy" when targeted by anti–Semites because all they received was "just a flood of memes", indicating that they do not view memes as a dangerous form of harassment. In the book by Susan Blackmore, it is mentioned that the reason why we cannot stop thinking is because there are too many memes in our memory that can find their place in the brain. Hence, we continuously keep on thinking, but at the cost of higher energy requirements. Indeed, thinking utilizes more brain power which in turn requires more oxygen for which more blood flow is required. Hence, in a nutshell, the more we think the more energy we consume and the more the genetically weaker our genes become – as we are 'wasting' more energy. What we see here that these... Various research and reports have shown in great detail beyond this paper's scope that inequalities in school funding does cause different outcomes for school children (Jackson, Johnson, & Persico, (2015. Unequal funding leads to unequal education: from the start, schools have different resources and means to educate our children (Kozol, (1991). Other reports suggest that different funding will lead to different social outcomes later on in life (Hyman, (2013); Biddle & Berliner, (2002). The fact is that schools in poorer neighborhoods all over the united states, funding are limited and they have poorer schools (Kozol, 1991). Schools in richer areas and especially in suburban white neighborhoods receive higher funding and they have better schools (Kozol, 1991). Some argue that school funding is not the problem and throwing money at the problem would not be the solution. This is somewhat contradictory because most well–funded schools are predominantly white. The schools are well lit, classrooms are spacious, student–to–teacher ratio is smaller, labs are well equipped, hot lunches are plenty, and teachers are experienced and well paid (Kozol (1991); Jackson, Johnson, & Persico, (2015). In "Strange Creatures" by Susan Blackmore and "Who Holds the Clicker?" by Lauren Slater both authors discuss the control humans have over their minds. In "Who Holds the Clicker" Lauren Slater discusses DBS (deep brain simulation), which is a type of psychosurgery in which electrical impulses are sent to certain portions of the brain to control and change the emotions one feels. She discusses both the positive and negatives of deep brain simulation through a specific patient named Mario and also presents the control DBS can have over one's mind. Similarly, Blackmore in "Strange Creatures" discusses the meme theory, which consists of any idea that is passed down from person to person. Both authors provide information that allows people to draw conclusions relating to why people do not have control over their minds. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some differences between the two. The idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in the ways that they see fit. Could an idea also present a reality better than the one humanity is accustomed to today? The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as well as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future. Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager who seems to be one of the only people in the world with the desire to find positive ways to affect the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything bad that can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind creates technologies surpassing those of the real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey's world is in trouble and that they must go to Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He shows Casey one of his inventions in his home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to accept what Frank's machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey might be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her and Athena to Tomorrowland. There, Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland, ... • 29. The Reality Of Visual Culture When talking about a simple image, what else do we know about Visual Culture? Well, have you ever been on the internet? Of course you've have. The internet is where modern Visual Culture lives. Mostly through jokes, and these jokes online are usually called memes. Now what is a meme? Well it originally comes noted from the book The Selfish Gene (1989) Where a British scientist name Richard Dawkins stated, a meme was "A unit of cultural transmission." With the understanding of a meme, what does it do? Well after watching theYouTubevideo Visual Culture Online (PBS, 2011) they spoked of one person making one funny Photoshop of a picture of Leo walking, someone else would like to contribute and try to make a funnier version, and then you end up having a large body of these Leo photos all over the internet. Memes are something that brings people together and makes them want to collaborate. With memes being the funny side of Visual Culture, what about the video side? Visual Culture is in many forms of media, such as movies, TV Show, and even an internet video. The best thing that represents Visual Culture as a video form would be YouTube. YouTube is a website where you can upload any video you like. Jeff Bullas a researcher for jeffbullas.com, found that 60 hours of videos are uploaded every minute, or one hour of video is uploaded to YouTube every second. Over 4 billion videos are viewed a day (Bullas, 2012) that's a lot of viewers and videos uploaded. YouTube is the new form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Social Media And Its Effects On Society Social media comes in many different varieties, but within those varieties there is one constant; hiding behind a computer screen. Social media allows people to not see the emotions of others when communicating with them. When humans do not see the reactions of others, and have the ability to hide behind the screen, it tends to be common for comments to be aggressive, uneducated, and/or rude. Arguments and debates have the ability to be civil, formal, and respectful of the opposing side and can end in a peaceful disagreement. Social media gives users the freedom to post things anonymously and without seeing the other people face–to–face, causing many fallacies to be used within debates online. Many people do not directly post their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "Blood Orange" meme is one specifically that a cultural background information is needed to understand. The "Blood Orange" meme consist of a bottle of blood orange water and a photo of Christopher Palu from Project Runway. In order to find the humor in the "Blood Orange" meme the knowledge of Christopher Palu complaining about how "blood orange" is really just red, and anyone who says otherwise is pretentious. Although sometimes there is no need for cultural background, people can write anything they would like over any image of their choosing and it will still be considered a meme. The internet gives a way for users to post their opinion without saying what they think directly through meme images on social media by reposting or sharing the picture. This freedom of sharing any opinion can be taken too far with hurtful comments, attacking posts, and other relative ways of harmful debating; however, in all bad there is some good. Although there are memes with fallacies, there are also memes that have good arguments. The first meme chosen, Meme A, is an example of a meme with good argumentation. • 31. Mutations in Nature and Culture Essay Mutations in Nature and Culture Many other words, both positive and negative, spring to mind when one hears the word "mutation." In a scientific sense, one might think of the random variations that lead to evolution in species. In a sci–fi/ horror flick sense, one might think of a vicious monster that after contact with some radioactive substance became terribly disfigured. But rarely do we associate mutations with ideas pervasive to our culture. Daniel Dennett suggests that memes undergo a certain kind of mutation that is inherent to the creative evolution of culture. The most important distinction to be made between mutation as it applies to biological evolution, and how it applies to creative evolution is the function of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may account for some of the messiness involved in trying to examine how mutations of creative thought occur; they are constantly crossing over between cultures. There is no neat diagram as with the branching of species to demonstrate the path that, for example, a thought may take on its way to becoming a theory. This begs the question, then, how much control can the individual hope to exert over the way that ideas combine and affect one another within his or her own mind? Dennett writes that our ideas are limited by our personal histories and experiences (450), but this limitation is not conscious on the part of the thinker. Perhaps what are limited by our experiences are not the ideas we can possess at a given moment in time, but the way in which these experiences lead us to organize our thoughts. If we attribute creativity to a disorganized trading of memes in space, then how much can we credit an artist with her own brilliant work? But if instead we regard the thinker as organizer of thoughts, creative mutations occur as a result of a new method of organization based on what Dennett calls the thinker's "style." "Each particular creator, each novelist or composer or computer programmer, is sped along through Design Space by a particular idiosyncratic set of habits known as style. It is style that both constrains and enables us, giving a positive direction to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Evolution And Virality Of Memes Evolution and Virality of Memes How have memes evolved and why do they go viral? Memes did not originate from the internet contrary to popular belief, but have actually been appearing in culture for centuries. The main difference between internet memes and pre–internet memes is the medium in which they go viral. Ameme has two definitions; Dawkins definition, and internet memes. Charles Dawkins first coined the term meme in 1976 in his book The Selfish Gene, and was referring to cultural ideas, beliefs, fashion, practices, etc. In his book he came up with a theory that memes develops similar to how genes spread in organisms. Memes transmit from one mind to another through speech, writing, or any form of communication. Likewise genes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This square dates back to 79 AD in the ruins of Pompeii, where Jewish people inscribed it on doorways and various objects to protect from evil. Later, in about the Third to Fifth century, Christians adopted this practice as their own. The meme had spread and mutated to accommodate both cultures. Likewise, Sator Square has still survived to this day. However, it's not as popular as it once used to be nor used as much. Additionally Kilroy was Here is another meme that spread similarly to internet memes, and the sator square. James J. Kilroy created it during World War II. He inspected the bottoms of warships under construction, and after he had completed the inspection he would write in chalk "Kilroy was Here" on the bottom of them. The chalk consequently, would be erased too easily though, so he scrawled "Kilroy was Here" in crayon on the bottom of the ship instead. The image that's associated with this phrase is a bald headed man with a large nose peeking over a ledge however, predates the phrase. There's conflicting ideas to who drew it first, but most people think the British cartoonist George Edward Chatterton drew it in 1938. Somehow this image united with the phrase, and formed the "Kilroy was Here" meme. Subsequently this spawned a joke within the GIs of America. It became a challenge to place this phrase and picture in unusual places, and is said to be on Mt. Everest, the Statue of Liberty, and on the moon. Both of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memes aren't harmful, but they can be difficult understand as some need more than just context to understand. One in particular is so vague, so obscured and filled with history that it needs paragraphs to just explain the backstory: Loss by Tim Buckley. Loss is one of the most famous memes on theinternet. Why is this meme in particular so popular and why is it even funny in the first place? Why did he publish something so out of the ordinary so suddenly? First off, Buckley never expected it to go this far, he certainly expected backlash and harsh criticisms (Feldman, 2), but never something like this. In reality, he planned this narrative for years, it was a personal experience of a toxic relationship he was in (Feldman, 10). Why would he expect anything but criticisms, having drawn from his own personal experiences. Of course he obviously miscalculated the demographics of the comic and how people would have approached it, especially in the long run, but Buckley was angry about the memes at first but he eventually found them "quite amusing," (Feldman, 15). Buckley is now flattered that he created something that has been amusing for more than seven years. He is at the heart of this 10–year long inside joke, the heart of a community that he never expected to blossom out of a webcomic strip about miscarriages. The internet is a strange, confusing place. The fact this meme alone needs this much explanation and thought is enough to turn someone off of the internet forever. • 34. Holding True to Convictions in a World of Differences Essays INTRODUCTION We live in a world full of people who hold different beliefs and convictions. Many of them may even be different from our own. For example John Haught, in his book God and the New Atheism shares his belief that, "Science alone can tell us what religion is really all about, and it can provide better answers than theology to every important question people ask" (x). Berger and Zijderveld, on the other hand, argue in In Praise of Doubt that, "Whether God does or does not exist in cosmic reality is another question. And this question cannot be answered by the empirical sciences: God cannot be the object of an experiment" (1). Even among religious scholars, ideologies differ. Haught believes that the new atheist's theological literacy is closely related to that of religious fundamentalists. "The new atheists scarcely notice the irony in their intolerance of religious tolerance" he says, "On the one hand they bring up past inquisitions as evidence of the evils of religion, but on the other they now excoriate theological moderates who espouse the new spirit of tolerance. Moreover, they seem not to notice that the very same liberal tolerance in modern Western history that influenced the Catholic Church to change its stand on religious freedom provides the cultural space and freedom of expression by which the new atheists themselves are permitted to vent their own literalist ideas" (Haught 37, 38). Here, Haught points out the intolerance of the new atheists and one can easily see that he does not approve. In the book In Praise of Doubt, Berger and Zijderveld argue that it is possible for individuals to hold moral certainty about societal values without succumbing to the extremes of either 1) the new atheists' fundamentalism (complete lack of certainty) or 2) relativism (absolute certainty). One of their main points throughout the majority of this book is the idea that modernity leads to plurality. They explain, "Modernization ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, each iteration of an image macro is representative of a particular individual's understanding and identification with the meme. The medium can be of various kinds. Some of them are so funny that makes it horrible to the readers. Some emphasize on contemporary issues to create cultural mass awareness. And, some are so humorous that it reveals some bitter truth. Those media are called as memes. There are few examples of such humorous memes related to college that has been spread rapidly through the online media .Those memes crave reader's attention towards truth about the students going through in college in paying for their tuition fees and how it has impacted, especially on the life of the students from a middle–class family. One of the most popular examples of college meme is "SpongeBob" meme. With this particular meme, the author is actually trying to portray the ridiculous expense that the college students have to pay. Mr.Crab, the greedy character, tries to charge Squidward for doing all the activities like breathing, talking, standing, existing, lollygagging, and chewing in the restaurant. • 37. Terrorism And Its Effect On Human Survival A) There are several issues raised in this question. There is a debate as to whether humans are a cooperating species or a selfish species. Humans cooperate instinctively for survival because this is beneficial to them. It can be argued that human beings cooperate for a reason because cooperation has many benefits; it aids survival. Cooperation evolved as a result of the benefits attached to it, this could be motivated entirely by the self–interest of the individual. According to Richard Dawkins "our genes may instruct us to be selfish, but we are not necessarily compelled to obey them all our lives" , if we choose to live in a society that is safe, we have no choice but to cooperate, as cooperation over time has allowed humans to survive. Unfortunately, life is full of competition; this gives rise to competition between groups which promotes cooperation within groups. Cooperation within groups can give rise to destructive ventures, and can lead to decision and risks that are not properly reasoned through hence threatening human survival, this is one disadvantage of cooperation. According to Robert Axelrod, this is the security dilemma in which "nations often seek their own security through means which challenges the security of others, this problem arises in such areas as escalation of local conflict and armed races" It is argued that humans are a cooperating species and that cooperation is not just a by–product of competition but cooperation is inherent in humans, ... • 38. Memes Research Paper Notably, innate human abilities and ideas permit culture to determine the favored genes, which in turn can reinforce the culture. The relationship between culture and genes can be viewed as a vicious circle. To comprehend, the significance of culture, it is essential to view it as an independent organism, a parasite– a meme! The term "meme" was conceived by Richard Dawkins as "information copied from person to person by imitation"(as cited in Bull, Holland, and Blackmore, 2000, p. 2). Memes are ideas, beliefs, practices, etc. In order, for these memes to be successful parasites, their hosts (the humans) have to be successful at this imitation process. This complex social behavior is a consequence of our possession of a very sophisticated genetic mechanism: the mirror neuron system! Mirror neurons are a fairly recent neuroscientific discovery that affirms that the same neurons fire when we perform an action, as when we observe the action being done by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memes can be adopted independent of the consequences on the host (Bull et al, 2000). Their fast paced growth is beneficial to them, because by increasing their rate of evolution, memes can minimize the impacts of their hosts on them, as they do not allow enough time for the genes to have enough evolutionary progressions to which the memes will have to re–adapt (Bull, Holland, and Blackmore, 2000). Genes will have less time to re–adapt to these memes and exert pressure on them. Therefore, it is obvious that we are always in danger of adopting memes that are detrimental to our survival. Take smoking, drug abuse, and alcohol, for example! Those are some powerful memes but they are in no way positive or essential to our evolution. Yet, they spread under social influence.
