2. I originally
painted the
shutters green
and planted a
tree. Looks a
little like Charlie
Brown’s
Christmas tree.
I’ve tried several
different things
with the front.
3. There is a small
pond with a
fountain in the
middle. I put in
some lights, rose
bushes, wild flowers
and a Japanese
maple tree. Painted
the shutters and the
frond door blue. I
would like to add a
rain barrel but
haven’t found one
yet.
4. THE LOVELY PAINTERS
GRADE WHITE WALLS
BLAH! THE TRADITONAL VINYL
TILE. THERE WAS A HIDOUS
BLUE IN THE KITCHEN THAT
MATCHED THE COUNTER
TOPS.
YUCK!
THE FIRST FLOORING MOVE, AFTER
REPLACING THE CARPET WAS ADDING
THIS CERAMIC TILE INE THE HALLWAY.
AN IMPROVEMENT BUT…..
5. CHANGED THE
BASEBOARD TO
1 X 4 PUT A
FRESH COAT
OF PAINT ON
EVERYTHING
AND WOW!
LESSONS LEARNED: ASK FOR HELP.
TILE IS A BIG JOB
Put in a couple
of lights and
painted the
ceiling.
Liked the tile so
much in the
bathroom that I put
it in the kitchen and
hallway
6. The floor started out as your standard beige
carpet. With 3 dogs this was not a good choice. I
went with an inexpensive laminate. Bad choice
number 2. Little dogs make big messes.
I chose engineered bamboo
flooring this time because of
its durability. More expensive
but much better than
changing floors.
The wall color is the same
through out the common
areas. Decided to add
wainscoting last winter and
paint chocolate brown. I
used 1 x 4 pine then found
wood receptacle covers and
painted to match
Spoiled
rotten
dogs
7. I added Thermal Curtains
hoping to keep heating costs
down and put my movies in
closet organizers.
Replaced the beautiful builders
grade ceiling fan with the one
below. It will blow the socks off of
your feet!
8. Had to install a
dishwasher as soon as we
moved in. Ended up
calling a plumber for that
much to my dismay.
Just love the Italian guy (as if you can’t tell)
We started with the border and collected
things over the years. I installed the back
splash on both sides of the wall, painted the
cabinets and put new hardware on them.

9. After laying the tile I
touched up the paint,
added curtains and new
lights. Had to tear out a
half wall that was a
clutter catcher to install
the dog door. We added
a nice kitchen table and
that’s it for now.
The original
floor was a
blue and
white vinyl.
The counter
tops were
blue also.
10. Of course the bathroom was
builders grade finishes with the
lovely vinyl floor and standard
“oak” cabinets. I pulled up the
floor, installed a new vanity and
mirror, faucet and light fixture
then , painted to match the blue in
the towels. Added brushed nickel
towel bars a new toilet seat and
called it a weekend. A very long
weekend
11. Went with
dark walls
and a dark
laminate
floor. The
laminate was
another one
of those
mistakes.
Will go back
to carpet as
soon as
possible.
Brought the color of the
bathroom to the bedroom.
12. I added a ceiling fan and forgot to paint the rest of the ceiling.
Will have to fix that this winter. Also added some thermal
curtains.
13. We started off with a blank slate and have
added something each year .
I planted what was
supposed to be a
weeping cherry tree.
14. I started by putting in pavers for the back porch. A
bit inexperienced at this I didn’t level it like I should
have or dig deep enough. I did get deep enough to
cut the cable to the house! Next year this will be
replaced with a deck.
Started out with a small
area, added the
traditional garden
gnomes and fairies,
perennials and annuals.
15. We added bushes and perennials against the
house and then a fountain for some nice sound. I dug a little further back,
leveled it up and added a
sitting area.
16. Last year I found a plan for a
wishing well and decided to build
one. It was easier to build than
move to the back. I put a liner
inside of it, got a pump and a filter
then added fish. Also added
trellises to cover up the ugly box
for the cable lines. I planted
clematis to climb the trellis
17. My daughter decided she
wanted an area of her
own so I dug down about
15 inches, reinforced with
timbers, added another
fish pond and a fire pit.
She wanted an arbor for
graduation so we put
that in and a swing. This
was after my son and I
built a fence.
18. The view from the swing
My sister got
me a grill for
my birthday
which was a
great
addition. I
had gutted
my old gas
grill (it quit
working)
and made it
into a
charcoal
grill.
19.
20.
21. Needed some place
to put some of the
dirt I dug up so I
built up the corner
and planted a
magnolia tree and
some mums.

25. With a little creativity and a lot of
hard work anything is possible.
I did most all of this myself.
If you thInk you can……..you can!
