"Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to you." -Aldous Huxley
My name is Vickie LaRoche, I found this quote to be a large connection to my life, and it expresses who I am as a
person. It reminds me of the change I've gone through in my life, this exact change lead me to become the individual
I am today and by you reading this letter I hope you will not only have an insight on who I am but I am hoping this
letter will be the exact reason I should be accepted into Monroe College.
In the quote,to me it explains how people go through certain things, they would find a way to fix it under any
circumstance and make it better so that they won’t ever have to go through that certain situation again. Just like
learning from your mistakes or experiences and growing from there to better your life.
One year ago I had moments where I would sit in my room and list all the bad times and all the good times I’ve had
the previous year, and for some reason the side where I had the bad times was longer than the side where I had the
good times. I began to think to myself; “why is it that this keeps happening? What am I doing wrong?” then the
answer came as follows, My decisions seemed to be the only thing affecting my outcomes, for example; I left two
jobs, I had to make the decision to withdraw from Norwalk Community College in order to start working full time,
help my mother in supporting ourfamily being that she was the only parent working, and step down from certain
leadership rolls within my church all within a span of two years. All of these decisions were to make more time for
certain priorities and sacrifice the others so that I wouldn't be spreading myself too thin. At the beginning of last
year I had a moment of reflection, in this moment I pondered on if I had accomplished anything the year before or if
I had done anything to better my life as a whole, and I couldn't seemto find anything significant. After that
realization I was able to organize my thoughts and find a plan for this year. I've come to the conclusion that all of the
decisions I've made had taken me to anotherlevel of maturity, Causing me to want to regain the lifestyle I once had,
so that was exactly what I was going to do. I took advantage of my life once again by starting my new full time job
in a company that I love, gradually becoming more active in my church, and now getting back to schoolis my final
step to receive the degree I've wanted for so long. Balancing my responsibilities is my way of doing somethin g
about what I've faced in the past few years, despite how hard it may have been,I decided to keep pushing for the
simple fact that I don't ever want to end up being where I was a year ago and I plan on stopping at nothing to get to a
point where I can say I've fully accomplished everything in my plan.
The quote from Aldous Huxley “Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to
you.” Explains this very clear, whenever you experience something in life, you shouldn’t focus on what happened.
You think of what to do to change the outcome for the better which is exactly what I will do from today until I
graduate with my Masters in Business Management. I believe this quote best describes why it is I feel that I should
be a part of the Monroe college experience and it would be my honorto showyou and every professorI encounter
along the way, the success that is to come of these words.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Vickie Vanessa LaRoche

SUBJECT: Egyptian Culture
After being informed on your future travels abroad to Egypt, I have taken it upon myself to do a
full research on the Egyptian culture for you. In this search I have found multiple key points of
information I feel you should know before traveling abroad.
The first thing you should know is that the Egyptian culture is best known for it being the
birthplace of the Pharaoh era; Pharaohs are the equivalent to kings or rulers of the land, they
were praised and honored by the people of the country. The Pharaohs were in control of most of
the decisions made in the land as well as laws for the people to follow. The people of Egypt are
considered to be kind and mild-mannered so you will not have an issue asking the locals
questions or finding assistance while you are there. It also won’t be hard for you to find someone
to tour with you, being that there is a population of 67 million people.
When traveling in Egypt in hopes for activities, be aware that most businesses are closed on
Fridays because of the Muslim holy day. You will find movies, music and arts to be of supreme
importance in the Egyptian culture; they have been making movies since 1930’s so you will be
sure to find something very entertaining to do while you are there. I hope these facts will be
helpful to you during your trip, enjoy your time away!

“Go in, get the job done,be a good people person and put God first” are the steps needed to be taken in
order to be a successfulHuman Resource Generalist. This advice was given to me by my aunt Dominique
Cime a Human Resource Generalist at Morgan Stanley which is a company for financial services in the
New England area. She is not only my aunt, but she has over time become a role model to me, there are
many reasons why but mainly because of how she has reached the point of taking on this position and
what she stands for.
Dominique Cime was the first child of my grandparents five children to graduate from college,
she is the youngest daughter. Dominique attended Norwalk high school and received her diploma; she
then began her undergrad in the fall of 2000 at Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island. Dominique’s major
while attending her 4 years at the college was business management and she minored in leadership.
Dominique had chosen to have a major and a minor that related to what she initially wanted to go to
school for so that she would have a good educational back ground and both of those majors, she felt
would be a good start to her ultimate Human Resources goal.
The following years of her life consisted of her graduating from Johnson & Wales in 2004 with
her bachelor’s degree. In her sophomore year of college she began her internship at Pitney Bowes a
business service industry which provided software and hardware,it also provided services related to
documents, packaging, mailing and shipping (Source: Wikipedia.org/pitneybowes). She interned there
every summer from her sophomore year until her senior year, because the company continually requested
for her to come back. During the internship, Dominique’s assignment consisted of understanding the
benefits program of the company and how the company negotiated prices and packages. The position was
officially called a Benefits and Comprehension Analyst where she also analyzed reports on employee
compensation to make sure employees are paid fairly. In my eyes, being in charge of that much in an
office as an intern is an achievement within itself because of how young she was,and the fact that it was
considered to be and entry level position. Not long after graduation she had taken on the full time position
at Pitney Bowes holding multiple positions and was promoted on numerous occasions such as becoming
the supervisor for the onboarding team, then was moved to supervising the call center and becoming a
Human Resource Generalist.
As said, Dominique Cime began her career at Pitney Bowes directly after college; she was hired
into the company she interned for which not many undergraduate degree holders can say they have done
and to top everything off she decided that two years after graduating that she would go into graduate
school while working for Pitney Bowes. The school she was accepted into was Manhattanville College,
there she went to school part time for human resources and received her master’s degree in 2008.
Dominique showed characteristics of a hard worker by managing her school work and studying at the
same time as maintaining her position in her full time job.
After receiving her Master’s degree,Dominique started looking for a company to hire her with a
higher position or a position in Human Resources as a Generalist which is what she wanted to be all
along. She posted a resume online, searched for positions consistently. One day she unexpectedly
received a phone call from a woman named Eileen who interviewed and offered her a job on the spot to
be a Human Resource Generalist even though she had no prior experience in that specific position.
Dominique is a firm believer in God and she says it was through prayer that she would have received that
offer; I admire her faith and found it to be a great trait of hers to have something she stands for and
believes in. I feel every person should have something they stand for if they plan to be successful. In life
or even to reach a goal, because once you have something you believe in, you have a standard to live by.
Dominique had that trait, along with a positive attitude, perfect organizational skills; she is well spoken
and always kept good work ethic. She accepted the job offer for Human Recourse Generalist at Morgan
Stanley and is now the Generalist who is in control of employee affairs for the New England area.
Dominique reached her goal and it all steamed from this one quote “I once worked for a guy who treated
his employees badly, and I told myself that I wanted to be a part of the change. A change where
employees would be treated well and have someone stand up for themfor any unfair situation”. The quote
itself says exactly what she believes in and I believe in her passion for Human Resources through this
quote and it is the sole reason why I look up to her as a role model, I hope that one day I can reach my
goal in having a position in Human resources just as she did.

This advice was given to me by my aunt Dominique Cime a Human Resource Generalist at Morgan Stanley which is a company for financial services in the New England area. She is not only my aunt, but she has over time become a role model to me, there are many reasons why but mainly because of how she has reached the point of taking on this position and what she stands for. Dominique Cime was the first child of my grandparents five children to graduate from college, she is the youngest daughter. Dominique attended Norwalk high school and received her diploma; she then began her undergrad in the fall of 2000 at Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island. Dominique’s major while attending her 4 years at the college was business management and she minored in leadership. Dominique had chosen to have a major and a minor that related to what she initially wanted to go to school for so that she would have a good educational back ground and both of those majors, she felt would be a good start to her ultimate Human Resources goal. The following years of her life consisted of her graduating from Johnson & Wales in 2004 with her bachelor’s degree. In her sophomore year of college she began her internship at Pitney Bowes a business service industry which provided software and hardware,it also provided services related to documents, packaging, mailing and shipping (Source: Wikipedia.org/pitneybowes). She interned there every summer from her sophomore year until her senior year, because the company continually requested for her to come back. During the internship, Dominique’s assignment consisted of understanding the benefits program of the company and how the company negotiated prices and packages. The position was officially called a Benefits and Comprehension Analyst where she also analyzed reports on employee compensation to make sure employees are paid fairly. In my eyes, being in charge of that much in an office as an intern is an achievement within itself because of how young she was,and the fact that it was considered to be and entry level position. Not long after graduation she had taken on the full time position at Pitney Bowes holding multiple positions and was promoted on numerous occasions such as becoming the supervisor for the onboarding team, then was moved to supervising the call center and becoming a Human Resource Generalist. As said, Dominique Cime began her career at Pitney Bowes directly after college; she was hired into the company she interned for which not many undergraduate degree holders can say they have done and to top everything off she decided that two years after graduating that she would go into graduate school while working for Pitney Bowes. The school she was accepted into was Manhattanville College, there she went to school part time for human resources and received her master’s degree in 2008. Dominique showed characteristics of a hard worker by managing her school work and studying at the same time as maintaining her position in her full time job. After receiving her Master’s degree,Dominique started looking for a company to hire her with a higher position or a position in Human Resources as a Generalist which is what she wanted to be all along. She posted a resume online, searched for positions consistently. One day she unexpectedly received a phone call from a woman named Eileen who interviewed and offered her a job on the spot to be a Human Resource Generalist even though she had no prior experience in that specific position.

Dominique is a firm believer in God and she says it was through prayer that she would have received that offer; I admire her faith and found it to be a great trait of hers to have something she stands for and believes in. I feel every person should have something they stand for if they plan to be successful. In life or even to reach a goal, because once you have something you believe in, you have a standard to live by. Dominique had that trait, along with a positive attitude, perfect organizational skills; she is well spoken and always kept good work ethic. She accepted the job offer for Human Recourse Generalist at Morgan Stanley and is now the Generalist who is in control of employee affairs for the New England area. Dominique reached her goal and it all steamed from this one quote “I once worked for a guy who treated his employees badly, and I told myself that I wanted to be a part of the change. A change where employees would be treated well and have someone stand up for themfor any unfair situation”. The quote itself says exactly what she believes in and I believe in her passion for Human Resources through this quote and it is the sole reason why I look up to her as a role model, I hope that one day I can reach my goal in having a position in Human resources just as she did.
