2. Crank is about a young girl’s ride with a
monster, and it isn’t a fire-breathing dragon, the
boogeyman, or cyclops. The monster is crystal
meth, and it changes Kristina for the worse. The
monster changes Kristina into a reckless, fearless, risk-
taking young woman named Bree. Bree starts taking
drugs, drinking, and placing herself in dangerous and
inappropriate situations. The story ends with Kristina
having to make one last life-changing decision because
of a mistake that Bree had made.
3. The story starts off taking place in Reno, Nevada
with Kristina’s mother, step-father, older sister, and
younger brother. Kristina visits her father in
Albuquerque, New Mexico for the summer when she
starts to experiment. So the setting of the book is
taking place in either of these two places.
4. Kristina Georgia Snow- An average high school “good girl”.
Bree- Kristina’s alter ego
Adam- Kristina’s first boyfriend who was originally dating a
girl named Lince, and cheats on her with Kristina.
Brendan- Kristina’s second boyfriend who started off being
the “good guy”, and Kristina’s mother’s favorite. Who also
ends up causing a very big mess towards the end of the
book.
Chase Wagner- Kristina’s final boyfriend. He’s first the “bad
boy” but then turns out to be kind and loving.
5. Marie- Kristina’s mother who always seems so loving and
caring, but Kristina never seems to really appreciate.
Scott- Kristina’s stepfather. A very kind man who cared
too much. The kind of father who expected perfection.
Leigh- Kristina’s older lesbian sister. Kristina never liked
the fact that her sister was a lesbian and she always
seemed to talk down upon the subject.
Jake- Kristina’s devious little brother who wasn’t
mentioned often in the book.
6. Addiction-
Addiction is the main theme in this book because
the whole book shows the pain of addiction through
the addicts eyes. The book also shows the possible
consequences of addiction. One last thing that
addiction changes in the book is the way that Kristina
treats her family, friends, and even herself.
7. There are a few conflicts in this book. Some of
them include parental and child issues, drug
abuse, and teenage pregnancy. The parental and
child issues are with Kristina and her mother, and
Bree and her father. Kristina and her mother never
had a great relationship, but Kristina (Bree) and her
biological father had an even worse relationship.
The first summer she spent with him in a very long
time, he shot crank with her. Because of that
conflict, it brought the drug abuse conflict, and
because of the drug abuse, it brought the teenage
pregnancy conflict.
