2. naturally better VENTURE CHEMICALS is a specialty chemicals company that develops and supplies additives and advanced materials for drilling fluids, water treatment, organic fertilizers and other industrial applications. Our innovative solutions are based on polymers, fibers, colloids and surfactants derived from naturally-occurring materials. We provide superior performance over other synthetic or traditional products in an environmentally friendly manner.
4. In the early 1980’s VENTURE CHEMICALS, Inc. patented and introduced the ‘micronized, surface modified’ cellulose fiber design to the petroleum industry. Prior to the micronized cellulose fiber fibrous materials were predominately coarse ground by products referred to as Lost Circulation Material (LCM) and used to treat whole loss of returns of the drilling fluid. With the introduction of Ven-Fyber came the dawn of the fibrous Seepage Loss Additive (SLA). Ven-Fyber products manufactured today are designed to provide solutions for differential sticking, torque, drag, formation damage, fluid loss, spotting of fluids, wall cake conditioning and enhance the performance of traditional LCM’s.

16. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference Ven-Fyber™ 201 is a fiber but it acts like a powder because of its small size (~ 20 microns in diameter and 200 microns in length). Ven-Fyber™ 201 will preferentially oil wet in the presence of oil and water. Ven-Fyber™ 201 can be used either as a seepage loss additive or as a filter aid, depending on method of use.
17. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference Several of the products on the market today make the same claims. Few are actually fibers when viewed under microscopic conditions. Most of these products are polysaccharide materials that will water wet over an extended period of time. Examination of most seepage loss additives will indicate flakes or granules rather than distinct fibers. This difference allows Ven-Fyber™ 201 to form surface seals. The matting effect achieved by Ven-Fyber™ 201 will seal higher permeabilities with less formation penetration and lower risk of formation damage. The matting effect of Ven-Fyber™ 201 is vital for seepage loss control.
18. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference Most polysaccharide materials by nature will preferentially water wet. They can adsorb/absorb or react with the emulsifiers causing a weakening or actual breaking of the emulsion potentially resulting in ‘flipping’ of the mud system. Ven-Fyber™ 201 was originally designed to address the oil mud problem specifically. The preferential oil wetting nature of Ven-Fyber™ 201 is unique and allows Ven-Fyber™ 201 to be used in high concentrations in oil mud systems without affecting the emulsion properties of the oil mud.
19. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference We originally designed Ven-Fyber™ 201 to address specific oil mud solutions, however, Ven-Fyber™ 201 is just as widely used in water based mud systems. Ven-Fyber™ 201 readily disperses in water based muds and is a highly effective seepage loss additive in these systems. Ven-Fyber™ 201 is particularly effective in alleviating differential sticking or torque and drag problems related to seepage loss in water based fluids. The preferentially oil wetting nature of Ven-Fyber™ 201 allows for the adsorbtion/absorbtion of any oils or liquid lubricants in a water based fluid system. The oil/lubricants are then pulled into the wall cake as the Ven-Fyber 201 is filtered placing these liquids in the exact areas where they will be most effective.
20. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference Ven-Fyber™ 201 is a cellulose product. Several competitive seepage loss additives claim to be cellulose fibers but testing indicates that the most effective of these products are not cellulose fibers, but are based on mixtures of polysaccharides and proteins of various types. These products degrade at much lower temperatures than Ven-Fyber™ 201. Ven-Fyber™ 201 and Ven-Fyber™ based products have been aged at temperatures in excess of 400°F for varying extended lengths of time and maintain their ability to seal after exposure. In addition, these polysaccharide and protein based products have a tendency to ferment, this is not the case with Ven-Fyber based products.
21. The Ven-Fyber™ Difference Ven-Fyber™ 201 is approximately 15% soluble in 15% HCl at room temperature. Although some claim differently, most effective seepage loss additives that do not contain calcium carbonate or similar acid soluble minerals also have limited solubility in 15% HCl. The difference is the fibrous nature of Ven-Fyber™ 201 which produces a seal by effectively matting at the formation surface. Competitive seepage loss additives that are not really fibrous tend to penetrate deep into the formation before achieving their sealing effect and are far more difficult to remove if not impossible to remove. The surface seal produced by Ven-Fyber™ 201 and Ven-Fyber™ based products is usually removed during the normal processes involved in bringing the well online.
22. Knowledge BaseVen-Fyber™ 201 Any solid product can potentially damage producing formations. However, Ven-Fyber™ 201 is fibrous and tends to mat and penetrate and seal coarse sands only up to ¼ inch. This type of seal is usually removed when the well is reamed and/or put on production. Of more concern is extremely fine, insoluble materials that penetrate deeply into the formation before sealing. Barite, clays, etc. are much more potentially damaging that the relatively large fibrous particles of Ven-Fyber™ 201 Although the matting effect of Ven-Fyber™ 201 generally limits invasion of the formation, if formation damage is considered a major problem there are solutions. Aside from acid solubility, Ven-Fyber™ cellulose products can be disintegrated through the use of alkalis, enzymes, oxidizing agents or special solvents.
23. Knowledge BaseVen-Fyber™ 201 Ven-Fyber™ 201, being a cellulose fiber, is readily biodegradable. Bioassays preformed by independent EPA approved testing laboratories and protocols show Ven-Fyber™ 201 to be environmentally acceptable. Although almost 100% biodegradable cellulose Ven-Fyber™ 201 will not spoil or ferment like competitive polysaccharide based products containing sugar and/or starch components.
