CSR AT FORTIS HEALTHCARE LIMITED
The CSR initiatives are driven by our vision, philosophy and the need of the
community, with health remaining our main focus; we however, occasionally
modify our programmes to suit our intended beneficiaries. We also promote
awareness and educational programmes on preventive care and training people
on several health related problems including emergency care. We have
approximately 300 employees volunteering in our CSR initiatives and community
development and they are allowed to take out time from their work schedule for
these initiatives. The programs of Fortis Foundation are SEWA, AANCHAL and
SAVERA.
The organisation is committed to creating robust mechanisms to implement,
record, review and measure outcomes of the initiatives for the community at large.
This not only ensures the efficacy of our programmes but goes a long way in
guaranteeing that they continue to be significant, relevant and sustainable so that
the beneficiaries derive maximum benefit from our effort and equally importantly,
we become proud of our contributions to the community. There is a regular
feedback from the Fortis hospitals about running of the programmes and after
appropriate review from time to time, necessary modifications (if required) are
made to better the programme. All CSR initiatives are reported in the companyโs
annual report for information of our stakeholders. We also have specific programs
to protect the environment through our work, like taking care of our biomedical

for our patients, attendants and employees.
CSR INITIATIVES
SEWA
Fortis Foundationโs SEWA program focuses on providing access to free medical
services through Charitable dispensaries and Health camps. Through their 7
Charitable Dispensaries, Fortis Foundation provides medical treatment, guidance
and support to those who are unable to afford basic healthcare facilities. The
dispensaries operate from fixed premises on a schedule time and are free to the
recipient.
Health Camps:
Fortis Foundation takes various health initiatives for the well-being of the
community. One such initiative is conducting health camps that are designed to
address basis diagnostic assessments of a target group supported by a medical
consult. The camps provide guidance, increase awareness and build a medical
record for the recipient.
DISPENSARIES
GOLDEN TEMPLE, AMRITSAR
The Dispensary treats many patients who either come to visit the Golden temple
or who live in the surrounding areas. The treatment is provided totally free for the
patient.

SEWA HEALTH CAMPS
India faces numerous health concerns including fragmented health care ecosystems, high costs,
inconsistent quality of care and barriers in access to healthcare facilities. In response to these
challenges Fortis Foundation takes various health initiatives for the well-being of the community.
The resources available under the Sewa Program are leveraged for running and supporting
Health Camps. These health camps are designed to help address basis diagnostic assessments
of a target group supported by a medical consult. The camps provide guidance, increase
awareness and build a medical record for the recipient. Over time the findings from the SEWA
health camps would help develop a robust needs assessment protocol for designing and
executing specific intervention programs. A preventive health checkup camp was held at Birla
Mandir clinic on 8th and 9th of Feb for Vendors outside ,and a few of our regular patients from
Hindu Maha Sabha, Shops ,working womenโs hostel located in near proximity of Birla Mandir. The
clinical team of the clinic conceived, arranged, motivated the people, publicized and managed the
camp activity with Investigations supported by SRL.

AANCHAL PROGRAM
Children are the most vulnerable segment of society. Every child deserves the
opportunity for a healthy start to their lives - the opportunity to achieve their full
potential. However, the reality is that many children are deprived of this opportunity
because they donโt have access to proper medical care. The lack of resources and
inability to detect issues at an early stage compound the problem. Increased
awareness and early detection could enable a child to live a healthy and full life.
Fortis Foundationโs AANCHAL program has identified target intervention areas
focusing on children from economically weaker sections of society suffering from
Congenital Heart Defect and Children with Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Deformities.
UMEED โ DHADKAN (CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS)
UMEED SMILE (CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE)
In India every year there are approximately 35,000 children who are born with cleft lip and cleft
palate - less than 50% of these cases are treated. Cleft lip and cleft palate are conditions that can
be treated surgically which when supported by a comprehensive program can enable children to
lead normal & healthy lives.

HEALTH INFORMATION REPOSITORY (A SAVERA INITIATIVE)
The Health Information Repository is an open online repository of health related
information.
The objective is to spread awareness and educate people on health issues ranging
from symptoms of diseases to diagnostics, prevention, treatment and how to live
with existing health conditions.
The repository contains 200+ brochures that can be read and downloaded
according to userโs requirements.

TREATMENT FOR ACID ATTACK SURVIVORS
In the last decade, statistics in India are showing an increasing incidence of acid
attacks, especially targeted at women. The total unofficial number of cases
estimated for the past year are 4800. There is a lack of understanding of the
complex aftermaths of trauma that a women faces โ which goes beyond the
physical pain caused.
10. 10
There is limited medical expertise in providing plastic & reconstructive surgeries
which may carry on for years depending on the extent of damage caused to the
body. There is even less focus on providing psycho-socio care, which is as
important as medical treatment.
THE AFTERMATH EFFECTS OF PROGRAM
Over the past 3 years Fortis Foundation has treated 16 Acid Attack Survivors. They
have undergone 37 procedures including surgeries and laser treatments. In
addition to this, they have also been provided with psychological counsel and
ongoing consultations. Their treatment still continues.

THE CONCEPT OF SELFLESS SERVICE
In a disaster situation timely medical help and assistance is one of the primary
needs. Under the Sewa Program the Fortis Foundation recognizes this and seeks
to provide and support relevant emergency medical services. The Program does
this by planning, preparing and executing an organized response to disasters. The
resources available under the Sewa program are also leveraged for running
Charitable Dispensaries and health camps. These initiatives help improve access
to basic health services and bring awareness on health and hygiene issues
amongst the public.

DISASTER RELIEF5
Support extended during Demonetization
On 8th November 2016, the Government of India announced demonetisation of
Rupee 500 & 1000 currency notes. The impact of the demonetization exercise was
significant and touched all. Considering the national level impact, the SEWA
program swung into action on 17th November 2016 to help people standing in lines
at ATMโs/ bank Branches.
Over 600 volunteers from 28 Fortis hospitals provided relief to over 1,80,000
