2. A German national, Uta Staley became a naturalized U.S.
citizen in 1973 and has since made her permanent home
in Chicago, Illinois. An active philanthropist, Uta Staley
lends her ongoing support to number of local museums
and conservation societies, including the Lincoln Park Zoo
and the Adler Planetarium.
Completed in 1930, the Adler Planetarium has a long
history of groundbreaking scientific research. In addition
to housing a collection of antique astrological instruments
and various educational programs, the Adler Planetarium
Citizen Science Department also strives to engage the
public in cutting-edge research through its innovative
Zooniverse platform.
3. In partnership with the Lincoln Park Zoo Urban
Wildlife Institute, the Adler Planetarium
Zooniverse team launched the Chicago Wildlife
Watch project in early 2014. Through a network
of motion-triggered cameras, the Urban Wildlife
Institute has collected more than 1 million
photos of over 65 native species in the
Chicagoland area. Through the Chicago Wildlife
Watch platform, citizens of all ages can engage in
real-time research by simply identifying animals,
which supports biodiversity research and
conservation efforts with real-time data. To get
