• Facebook is the largest
platform where the potential
misinformation about
elections were shared (3 in 4)
• Online media is second where
about 15% of potential
misinformation appeared.

6. TOPIC OF MISINFORMATION
• 83% of potential
misinformation was on
political topics
(understandably!)
• Close to 8% were also each on
social issues and economy

7. DATA SHOWS
• 90% potential misinformation were shared by known
profile/person; fake or unknown profiles only amount to 7%
• 34% = political person
• 19% = media
• 18% = influencers
• 16% = normal citizen
• 11% = opinion leaders
• At least 60% of potential misinformation were viral (more than
10x shares)
9. CONCLUSION
• Misinformation didn’t have significant impact on the intregrity
of the elections
• But trends show concerning use of potential misinformation
that undermines system (democracy), process (elections) and
institutions (parties, state agencies) which if remained
unchecked could lead to problematic results
