1. Friday ASSURE:
This is a 12th grade Civics and Governments class with 16 students. These
students consist of 10 males and 6 females who are all from the United
States. These students are hands on learners that enjoy feeling apart of what
is being taught to them.
The objective of this assignment is to teach the students what goes into a
Presidential Campaign. This involves the speeches, the ads, the networking,
and the political jabs that go into a campaign. Students will learn how these
items affect the ability of a candidate with their viewers.
Students will be taught about the intricacies of a political campaign by
actually observing campaign items. They will be given the chance to hear a
political speech that was given by President Obama during his campaign.
They will also see how he used Twitter and Facebook to help himself with
networking. Ads from his campaign will also be available to the students.
Students will also see some of the political cartoons that have been used in
the past.
Technologies that will be used in this lesson are ads, a podcast, wiki spaces,
twitter, Facebook, and political cartoons.
Students will have the opportunity to work in groups for this lesson. There
will be two groups with a presidential candidate and a vice president. Those
students that do not get voted as the candidates will act as the cabinet to help
with the campaign. The groups will create a wiki page for a presidential
campaign that includes a speech podcast, a twitter feed with updates about
the candidate, a Facebook page that can be liked by other students, ads to tell
what the student supports, and political cartoons to jeer at the other group
(must be appropriate). Each group will also add a short paragraph of why
they think each aspect of the campaign is important, and why they used it the
way that they did. There will be one student from each group, which will be
selected secretly by the teacher that will get the chance to vote for the
presidency. This student will be persuaded based on how well the groups can
get their points across.
Students will be expected to be 100% accurate in the making of their
campaign. Every aspect must be found on the wiki that they create; a missing
part of this will result in a loss of points. Each group is expected to be 85%
accurate in their understanding of why each aspect is important to the
campaign.
