Through generations, one can see the power beauty has over civilizations or societies; such as the
fact that ancient Greeks worshipped the goddess Aphrodite – a woman – because she represented
true beauty, even though, Greek women were thought of as inferior to males. Beauty is so
powerful that external influences take advantage of the significant beauty has on people, to exploit

"even the words we use to describe it [beauty] reflect its power – like stunning, knockout and

Many people will say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however if you look back through
history it is apparent that beauty is in the eye of society. Just like fashion, the image of a "beautiful
woman" has varied with culture and time. What was considered attractive in Elizabethan Europe was

lipstick, mascara, and blush are used excessively in hopes to attain a flawless complexion and
perfect facial features. When cosmetics are used in small amounts they can be okay, however, by
trying to hide flaws behind layers of make–up women are just creating more problems for themselves

There is nothing wrong with using moderate cosmetic products. It's important to use lotions, soaps,
and shampoos for cleanliness and good hygiene. It's also fine for someone to use small amounts of
make–up to cover up small blemishes and to make themselves feel attractive and more confident.
However, women should not feel that the only way they look beautiful is if they completely cover
their face with foundation, blush, lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and other make–up. Or that
the only way their hair looks good is when it's dyed and straightened. Women should learn to be
comfortable in their own skin, especially since by using these products they can actually be harming

Beauty and the Beast is probably one of the most well known fairy tales that the Grimms'
reproduced. In it's original form it was a long, drawn out story that was catered to adults. The
Grimms' changed the story to be more understood by children and made it short and to the point.

feet. Beauty returns home to tell her father that the Beast is really kind and good but she enjoys
being home so much that seven days pass by without her realizing it. Her love for the beast
comes to her in a dream. She dreams that the Beast was dying and calling for her. She then in
turn, jumps upon her horse to return to the castle. When she arrives at the castle the Beast is lying
in the rose garden as though he was dead. Beauty throws herself at his feet again and says, " Don't

I hated shopping. But this lady with her textured turtleneck always mesmerized me with how
powerfully she presented herself. She was always so polished and prim. I never remember a

Beauty always has been a center of instinctive attention. It fascinates and paralyzes the power of
thinking. After all, beauty is the cause of disputes and propagation of love. For instance, men look at
beauty before anything else. Jacob and Whilhelm Grimm's "Little Snow–White" gives us a better
look on the idea of both beauty power and competition. For example, the queen becomes jealous of
Snow–White's beauty and orders her huntsman to kill her but because she is so beautiful the
huntsman let her live. This demonstrates how women are competing with each other when it comes
to their beauty and how even the toughest men become weak due to a woman's beauty. In the tale
'Sun, Moon, and Talia' byGiambattista Basile, the king goes out to hunt and comes across an
inhabited palace. In that palace, he finds Talia sleeping due to an enchanted spell. He finds her
beauty dazzling enough that he decides to rape and impregnate her. This shows how a woman's
beauty clogs a man's conscience and causes a lack of moral codes. Talia gives birth to two children

figures are the beholders. The beauty industry profits off the inadequacy of women and perpetuates
unattainable beauty. In recent years, there has been a surge in plastic surgery, popularized by the
Kardashian Decade (2007–2017) and other contributors. The perpetuation of these unrealistic ideals
have serious implications on women of color, especially black women who deviate the most from
European beauty standards. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, beauty is defined as " such
as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight" (OED). Since the
beginning of time, the connotation of beauty has changed drastically. In the Renaissance era
