Why did you decide to take over the company?
I had a lot of confidence in myself and my overall knowledge of how to manage a manufacturing plant. I knew a considerable amount about the
machines, the employees, the customers, and the suppliers. I saw it as the opportunity to build a future for myself and my children.
Since this is a family–owned business, do your children want to carry on with the business?
Yes I have 3 sons and they have all joined me at the plant, they have all earned bachelor degrees in Business and they are helping to grow the business

Mrs. DaRosa is a prime example of how hard work and motivation does pay off. This small business, even though it is manufacturing which is a dying
business in America, has thrived. Her answers were basically what I expected from a small business manager that has both ambition and drive.
NEK Inc. is a manufacturing company that makes elastic products for a range of industries such as; military armor, home furnishings, medical
use, and even underwear. Rosalie DaRosa was born in Cape Verde and worked in Italy as a teenager before immigrating to the U.S. in 1969. Her
father was already working at International Stretch (former name of NEK) in Pawtucket. Like many others, in manufacturing in the 1980's, the
company fell on hard times; it closed in 1986. With the purchase of old machines, Rosalie began the creation of North East Knitting. As she stated

The assembly line principle as it matured in industrial society however, proved to destroy workers creativity and stifle the very essence of human
life. Growth and change. On an assembly line workers are degraded to automatons, performing the same tasks over and over and over. Day in day
out, without ever having any knowledge or input into any of the other tasks related to completion of the project. This monotony in the workplace
spills over into the daily life of many factory workers and affects how they live their life outside of the factory after the whistle blows as much as it

Selecting the most appropriate transformation process and facility layout is one of the keys towards achieving success in the company's performance.
In general, there are many forms of transformation processes, and each has particular facility layout. What is more, there are also hybrid combinations
of them so the organization can choose the one that best fits its needs and potential.
Speaking of the basic forms of transformation systems, there are five of them including job shop, continuous process, cellular production, flow shop,
and project (Meredith & Shafer, 2013). Job shops are industries that offer a wide range of products and services. They can achieve diversity in
possible outputs using departments functionally specializing in one or other good. The specialty of this transformation system is that the departments

The Federal Reserve Bank assessed "potential being used at factories, mines and utilities in the U.S. reached 79.2 percent in March". Comparatively, the
national average from 1980 until now is 79.4 percent (Chandra, Apr. 20, 2014). According to an article in Reuters, this is the highest capacity utilization
since June 2008. (Nawaguna, Apr. 16, 2014) Incidentally, as resources are used more efficiently, manufacturing output will increase. Higher labor costs

When Henry Ford first developed the idea of the
assembly line he was heralded as one of the most forward
thinking men of his time, and without the assembly line we
would no doubt not be as powerful a nation as we are today.
The assembly line principle as it matured in industrial
