You're still a baby yourself! This is the first thought that comes to mind when I see a teenager with
child. Even though it's extremely disturbing to see, it has become more and more common these
days. Is this the new "trend"? Or should we question the parenting skills the child is receiving?
Maybe this girl has been messed with by a relative or a family member. Whatever the case maybe,
how can we help these kids in preventing pregnancy at an early age. Lets try to figure out where we
went wrong as parents, caregivers, nurses, etc. in raising and educating these babies about having
babies. In 2014, there were 24.2 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15–19, that is 249,
078 babies born to females in this age range and nearly 89% of these birth occurred outside of
marriage (Office of Adolescent Health, 2016). According to the CDC, in 2015, a total of 229,715
babies were born to women aged 15–19 years, for a birth rate of 22.3 per 1,000 women in this age
group. What's even more disturbing, not all teen pregnancies are the their first pregnancy. In 2014,
one in six births (that's 17%) to these 15–19 year olds were females that who have already been
pregnant and have had one or two babies already (Office of Adolescent Health, 2016). Even though
we can't predict what a teenager would do or even make a teenage act accordingly when

Teen pregnancy is not a subject to take lightly. Being in high school, students are held to high
standards. They are in fact young adults who are trying to build their success to go onto the next step
in life, but just one mistake can ruin everything. Having unprotected sex is the leading cause to
teenagers getting pregnant. Oral contraceptives are recommended if girls are sexually active, but
being on birth control does not give them one–hundred percent accuracy of not becoming pregnant.
A problem to teen pregnancies can be unprotected sex, as said in the first paragraph, that is the
number one cause to getting pregnant. When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start to
develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex. Having
sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their partner,
they are putting their own life at risk. "Almost 1,700 teen girls get pregnant every single day" (Teen
Vogue). That is seventy girls every hour.
Not only can becoming pregnant be hard for the mother, but for the child too. The normal signs that

growing to do. Teenagers need to be more educated about themselves and their bodies as well as
ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant if they're sexually active. Also, teenagers are more
prone to risks during a pregnancy than a twenty or thirty year old woman would be. Becoming a

Teen pregnancy, and abortions is something that is becoming a trending issue in American Society.
There are TV shows being made high–lighting teen pregnancy it's being freely talked about through
social media. With this type of promoting it's making young girls think teen pregnancy it's cute "Oh
I get to be on a show" is the new fun thing to do today. With them being so young, and naïve it is
easy to manipulate them. Recently recorded in 2011 the abortion rate in women aged from 15–44 is
13.9 per 1000 women. The ratio is 219 per 1000 live births. Teen pregnancy rate is a little bit more
updated in 2015 it was recorded that with 229,715 babies being born from women aged between 15–
19 years old. Teen pregnancy, and abortions are influenced by a lot of things. Men nowadays are a
lot more mature and know how to manipulate young girls to get them in bed, parents are sometimes
absent at home, and schools are no longer talking about the dangers of unprotected sex. While
unplanned teen pregnancy is a major problem in America today, so Is the high school dropout rate.
Over 1.2 million students' dropout in just the United States. That's seven thousand people a day.
(Miller, 2015) So many teenage mothers' dropout of high school because, they feel as if they can't
juggle both child, and school. Being a high school dropout isn't a good look for expectant mothers,
in the present day you need a high school diploma to even get a simple job like McDonalds, or
working at a retail store.

Teenage pregnancy is a prominent dilemma in our nation because it continues to place adolescents
into delinquency. According to the United States Health and Human Services, three out of ten
American teen girls will become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of twenty. That is
nearly 750,000 teen pregnancies in a year (1) (HHS Pg.2 2014). Also according to U.S. Department
of State, teen pregnancy budgets the United States and tax payers approximately seven billion
dollars annually (2) (USDS pg. 1 2013). Teen pregnancy is a phenomenon in which a female
individual, usually between the ages of thirteen through nineteen become pregnant before they have
reached the legal adulthood. Many times these adolescents are not prepared to become parents. They
have not completed their education, are mentally young, have very few or no marketable skills and
abilities to survive in the real world, and they are financially dependent upon their parent or
caretaker.
Unfortunately, teen pregnancy and delinquency has been occurring for centuries. There have been
numerous studies done in order to present this issue. Countless teens become pregnant at a young
age due to many mechanisms. However, the experts believe most of those teens are lacking
important attention and consideration from their homes. Therefore, teenage girls tend to reach out
