Missionand Vision Statement
MissionStatement:
The new Montessori Private School funded by the Cheung Brothers and
Associates helps students become critical and analytical thinkers, intrinsically
motivated to learn and conditioned to think beyond normal parameters. Critical
thinkers are used in all professional fields of our market for tasks related to
solving problems, clarifying ideas, analyzing and solving conflicts, evaluating
risks, as well as inductive, deductive, ideological, and even empirical thinking.
Motivated students want to learn so that they can engage in problems and manage
to resolute them at the bet turnaround time possible. They engage in the constant
application of knowledge and achieve great results in life.
Vision Statement:
The new Montessori School will maximize students’ inner potentials and
experience the purpose of life with meaning by enhancing their education and
taking responsibility for it. They will cultivate dignity and independence through
our greatly honored approach to learning and education.
Tab 2 Operations Proposal and Potential Effects of Milestone Montessori
Facilities
The administration of the school will be properly licensed and comply with the
code with regard to the Canadian Education Facilities Act, all Municipal,
Provincial and Federal regulations as well as all local laws. The building shall
provide communication capacities to support the nature of this school. The
building will provide adequate heating, ventilation, sanitary conditions, lighting,
water supply and all other possible needs to support the staff and students.
Classrooms will allow a minimum of 64.27 square feet per student enrolled
between the ages of 0 and 5. Ideally, classrooms for students between these ages
will also have access to an outside portion of the total square footage (6106 sq. ft.
total for 95 students maximum). The classrooms are filled with natural light from
the outdoor environment. The facility will accommodate for small kitchens and
sinks for every classroom. The Directors are currently looking into building
options for renovations in order to ensure sustainability of the proposed program.
The Directors intend on building the permanent facility by September 2014.
Details about the Building and Floor Plans are included in Appendix J.
Administration
The Board of Directors will manage administrative services related to Milestone
Montessori School directly. The teachers will be employed through the use of the
Ontario Standard Teachers’ Contracts. School Personnel such as assistants and
teachers will require the appropriate Early Education or Teacher’s certifications
and endorsements set out in the Province of Ontario or anywhere in the Country
of Canada. Teachers will hold highly qualified positions and will work towards a
province-approved curriculum and program of instruction. This will include
alternate channels for education in order to meet the standards of excellence as set
out by our province.
Milestone Montessori will implement the recommendations from the American
Montessori Society’s Essential Elements of Successful Montessori School in the
Public Sector:
First, have an experienced Montessori teacher serve as the curriculum director and
coordinator.
Second, employ a principal or educational leader that has knowledge and
experience in a Montessori school, that is familiar with the curriculum and that
meets the expectations for the Montessori school of ethics.
Third, always maintain commitment to the curriculum and plan of instruction
even if, and when, there may be some changes in administration and staff1.
Civil Liabilities
Milestone Montessori is incorporated as a for-profit education institution for
children between grades pre-junior-kinder to senior kindergarten. The Board of
Directors is listed as having the responsibilities of operating the schools under all
codes and standards. Ontario Board Association policies will serve as the
guidelines for the policy creations until the school’s policies can be developed
appropriately.
Milestone Montessori operates independently of the Toronto, York, Vaughan,
Ajax or Ontario School Board Districts. It is solely responsible for operations
including personnel matters, budget preparations and service contracts. It
maintains a general liability insurance policy and other types of insurance needed
to provide enough coverage for the potential losses described in this section.
Milestone Montessori’s employees, director and officers shall have the same
immunities as all other employees, director, and officers of public school districts.
Copies of insurance binders from a company authorized to do business in Ontario
for liability insurance (per occurrence and aggregate coverage), property
insurance, worker’s compensation insurance, unemployment insurance, and all or
any other insurance coverage required or provided to the commission upon
request. All required insurance slips would be in effect upon commencement of
operations of Milestone Montessori.
Anticipated Impact on the Local School District and Community of Ajax, Ontario
DURHAM Region School District has been experiencing a consistent growth
since 1997. The schools that have opened in the area since then have already an
attendance of at least 665 students enrolled per year. Even with these students not
attending the district public school, the Municipality of Durham has passed a $25
million bond for new school construction and improvement in the area in
accordance to its growth. The addition of Milestone Montessori to the attendance
area will provide another option for residents and will serve the growing need.
There is a new interest in the Montessori approach all throughout the province of
Ontario. In the Durham Region, there are at least 5 other Montessori Schools.
This denotes that there is a growing demand to the schools and there is a market
for it. Fortunately for us, we are entering the market with a recognized name,

integrity behind our work and all the necessary funding we need to launch a
successful business from the beginning. The demand is not just in the Durham
region; all over the GTA there has been an increased demand in Montessori
Schools. Milestone Montessori will provide students capable of learning and
parents capable of affording our tuition prices the best education found in the
entire Province, assured and with the exception of the School District’s
curriculum.

Special Education Services
Gifted and Talented Students
At Milestone Montessori we want the learning to be permanent and when we have
students that are above standard, we take pleasure in teaching them the best ways
of using their skills and talents. Milestone Montessori uses eligibility criteria
developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Durham Region Ministry
of Education. There are methods and sources used in this process:
 Formal Assessment Methods: Group, individual testing of achievements,
ability, aptitudes and creativity
 Informal Assessment Methods: Checklists, ratio scales, evaluations,
observations, peer nominations, biographical data, questionnaires and
interviews.
 Students will be required to provide information about teachers,
counselors, peers, parents, communities and so on; in order to evaluate
them further.
The Gifted Student Education program is supervised by a staff member and uses
the Federal Definition of Children with Outstanding Talent to organize our
students:
“Children and youth with outstanding talent perform or show the potential for
performance at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with
others of their age, experience, or environment. These children and youth exhibit
high performance capability in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, possess
an unusual leadership capacity, or excel in specific academic fields. They require
services or activities not ordinarily provided by the schools. Outstanding talents
are present in children and youth from all cultural groups, across all economic
strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.”
Education Programs
The Toddler Group (0 to 2 Years old)
All activities in this program are about connecting the child with the staff on a
personal and emotional level. This is with the purpose of making the child feel at
home and have absolutely no anxiety from being away from his or her parents (or
guardians). This is a critical stage in life so we want to instill practical skills for
survival. These include:
 Wiping the table
 Laying the table
 Getting Dressed
 Doing the dusting
 Wiping out the floor
 And more.
The first three years of life is a continuous learning experience and curve. The
development fluctuates from one experience to the next. The environment in
Milestone Montessori is dedicated to provoking thought in the child and building
on responsibilities. As the child continues to work around his or her environment,
he or she will experience and explore more of it. This way he will realize his or
her fullest potential. The opportunities to work in language, art, music, sensorial
and practical life will be there available to the child at all times. The child will
learn to gain independence, confidence, control motor skills better and with more
precision, focus on activities for longer periods of time and experience life in
different ways learning every step of the way.
The Toddler community consists of 12 children in one classroom minimum. For
each 12, there will be a 1 (one) staff member and a qualified assistant,
maintaining the 1:6 ratio. The environment is all about respect and assisting each
other with dignity and simplicity. Toileting is an important part of the daily
classroom routine. By the time a child is walking, the body has physically
developed the muscles needed to control bodily functions-all they need is
consistent practice. Children in the Toddler program wear cloth underwear to
facilitate easy use of the bathroom. Bathroom routines are developed (scheduled
visits are established-upon arrival, before snack, before and after rest time, before
leaving. etc.) and the children learn to use the toilet and sink. As the child
becomes accustomed to the daily routine they begin to recognize their body's
needs and attend to the toileting process more independently.
The Toddler Program is designed to be a half-day program. However, Milestone
Montessori offers an extended day (11:30am-5pm) for families that require care
in the afternoon. The full-day program consists of lunchtime (children participate
in arranging the lunch area and eat together), rest time, classroom time, more
outdoor time and group activities.
Milestone Montessori is an enriched, peaceful environment. The toddler is trying
to, and needs to, make sense of the world to create order. The environment and
adults protect and nurture the child in this precious formative period of life.
Junior Kinder Programs (3-4 Years old) & Senior Kinder Programs (4-5
Years old)
From experience, Milestone Montessori understands that the first six years of life
are the most important. They are never equaled and are moments of pure
potentiality. As Montessori educators, we know that the child has an innate
motivation to learn at ages 3 to 5 more so than at any other time, but it is up to
parents and guides to provide the right environment in these crucial years to help
children reach their highest potential. In that sense, choosing a preschool has
become nearly as important as choosing a university. Milestone Montessori’s
groundbreaking research on "sensitive periods" in children's development, taught
us that when children are intensely interested in a certain type of learning they
master it with much greater ease and speed than would be possible at another
time. This is a key principle of Montessori education. Montessori's research
showed that young children learn best by using their hands, not by looking or
listening, so the Montessori materials were developed with that principle in mind.
And, we never disappoint! Please note that all Home Program Students must have
learned how to use the toilet prior to enrolling.
Before and After Care with Milestone Montessori
We are pleased to offer an on-site Before and After Care Program to assist
families who require extended care for their children because of work or other
type of responsibilities. We offer care from 7:00 am to 8:30 am and 3:30 pm to
6:00 pm in a home-style environment that follows Montessori philosophy. The fee
is to be determined per hour. Care before 7 a.m. and after 6 p.m. is available
with a small fee.
Registration at Milestone Montessori
Registration forms are included in the Acceptance package. For mid-year
enrollment, please contact the school office.
Summer Program at Milestone Montessori
When interest permits, we anticipate starting a summer program to accommodate
MM families.
Curriculum at Milestone Montessori
Our teachers offer curriculum that presents the Ontario Program of Studies in a
very meaningful, contextualized way, using the Montessori lessons as the
framework. These lessons present all learning from the "big picture", global
perspective first, then proceed to examine the "parts", always returning to the
view of the "whole". The spiral offers an effective metaphorical image of the
Montessori approach to learning: concepts are presented from whole to part to
whole.
Click here for a copy of the Ontario Curriculum or visit the Durham District
School Board website for more information.

Getting In to Milestone Montessori
There are limited spaces available for students. Each application is reviewed by
the Admissions Committee, which includes the program Directors. Acceptance of
a child is based on several factors, one of which is a successful match of the
family's and the school's educational goals for the child.
Children with prior Montessori experience are given priority, as are siblings and
other family members. New applicants are admitted to the remaining spaces,
while attempting to maintain gender and age balance within the classrooms.
Waiting lists are available if no space is matched.
Tuition Fees must be paid at least two weeks prior to the commencement of
school.
Tab 4 Student Educational Standards
Standardized Testing
Milestone Montessori as required by law, complies with all testing requirements
of the City and Province. Milestone Montessori as a way to determine the
progress of all students uses the data generated from these assessments. The
EQAO is the standard testing methods for elementary school but for Kindergarten
grades there isn’t a standard testing done until the children reach the first grade.
Tab 5 Governance
Governance
Students: At the top of our pyramid are our students. Our students represent the
most important and primordial responsibility in our facility. We plan our mission
and activities around them and what they need to develop with the best and
highest standards of education. We also make sure that all of those that work with
us and under our umbrella are the best citizens in their communities, have never
violated any laws and are the top educators in the region.
Teachers: As a second priority, our teachers represent our school and are trained
in the most advanced ways to do so. Highly educated, respectful and ethical, our
teachers represent the most humane of all educators because they are taught
according to the Montessori standards, the highest so far in the education system.
They are served by our school to make sure they are comfortable, happy and at
ease with all matters regarding the school. Our teachers are certified educators
through the Ministry of Education of Ontario. To be a part of our education team,
all of our teachers must go through Teacher’s College in Ontario, or anywhere in
Canada, prior to starting their contract with Milestone Montessori. They are all
university and college trained professionals that assist Milestone Montessori in
further developing your child’s strengths to reach their most potential in life.
Assistant Teachers: Last, but not least, our assistant teachers make it all possible.
For students to assist our facilities, we must have assistants for our educators. For
educators to be able to teach, we need them to have assistants that are as
determined, supportive and caring as they are. Our assistants are qualified Early
Childhood Educators. They are college-trained professionals that assist Milestone
Montessori in the development of your child through care, support and education.
The Board of Directors consists of several individuals including a Certified
Teacher in the Province of Ontario and an Authorized Montessori Personnel:

Personnel Qualifications
There are several types of personnel working at MM. For one, we have our
Principal and Vice-Principal, and then we have the Supervisors, teachers, and
early childhood educators and, last but not least, our assistants. They all play a

Description
Milestone Montessori is more than just a name. It is a team of professionally
trained educators and business experts looking for ways to help society by
molding students into wanting to reach their full potential. There are many smart
people out there but only those that actually want to progress in life will. It is not
an easy task, especially when resources are abundant. In fact, when we have
everything we need, it becomes too difficult to reach our full potential because we
do not spend the time thinking about change. We simply do not want any change
when we have it all. At Milestone Montessori, the goal is to teach that progress
and success is earned much like respect in life. Therefore, we strive along with
our students to better ourselves each and every day. We teach our students virtues
and morals that will take them far in life, we teach patience, empathy, care and
love, charity, respect for others, dignity and we maintain that education is the key
to helping everyone in the world. With education, our students will reach their full
potential and will want to be even more as they graduate from our school.
At Milestone Montessori, the goal is to free the minds of our students. There is no
stress allowed in our facilities. The minds of our students are fresh blank slates
waiting for information to lean on. For these children, what they hear is what they
will learn. Our standards are above the ordinary. Our staff is trained to understand
how words can disturb a child’s mind. We monitor all of our employees to make
sure that at all times there is only positive reinforcement being practiced. We
believe in the psychology of teaching students and not just in the content.
Although we realize that we must meet the standards by the city, we also realize
that learning at this age, comes in many different forms.
Our children will learn the art of play, laugh, sleep; they will enjoy quiet times
and will read until they fall asleep. Our routines are made so that all children learn
something new every single minute or re-establish something learned as they go
along day-to-day. For instance, our toddlers will always take their naps alongside
a book. This is mandatory at Milestone Montessori, they will touch the book,
smell it, play with it, try to read the words and maintain their focus on the book
while listening to the teacher or assistant read them a bedtime story. This is to
allow the growth and development of wanting to read, as they grow older. This
will also be encouraged for the home.
Another great example of how we use psychology to teach our students is positive
reinforcement. We provide rewards and gifts to the students who achieve their
most during a specific week, answer the questions correctly, complete their tasks
and obey the rules of the school. Although we are going to be teaching younger
children, ages 6 months to 6 years of age, we will be controlling the environment
so they follow patterns of rule, obey certain rules set for behavior and listen
without interrupting their teachers. This is all with the intent of developing a sense
of citizenship and responsibility towards the educational institution and educators,
as well as peers, parents and the public in general.
Milestone Montessori offers negative reinforcement to teach students when they
have done something that is opposite to what they are expected to do. As opposed
to several institutions that simply tell the student they have erred (i.e., sat in the
wrong chair, spilled the juice, talked during nap time and so on), Milestone
Montessori believes that instead the child needs to hear what he or she was
supposed to do instead of what they did wrong. MM believes that guidance is the
best way to teach, we do not believe in telling our children they are wrong at any
point of their lives. This is because they will either realize it themselves or will
know the right way of doing it so wont commit the error again. There is no need
to drill students into behaving; there is a need to show them the right way of doing
things. This is called negative reinforcement: using reinforcement strategies of the
reverse behavior to gain the behavior desired.
Milestone Montessori believes in the potential of all its students without doubt.
By the student becoming part of our family, they are welcomed from the first day
and celebrated upon their graduation. They are instilled academic skills, moral
values, social responsibility and empathy for their neighbor. They understand that
to help others, they must help themselves first and educate their minds to free
themselves from poverty, struggle and hardship. Upon graduating with us, all
students envision their future with grace, joy and happiness. They look forward to
going to grade 1 and beyond; they have already designed their lives for success
because that is what they have learned since the beginning of their time with MM.
With the students in mind, we earn all parents’ trust. They will know and see
through our example that all we care about is the education and healthy
development of their children and they will appreciate that.
Demographics
We are blessed to say we are entering potentially the best market in the Province
of Ontario. With economic stability, a keen focus on early childhood education
and the prosperity of living in a stress-free city, Ajax is the most suitable location
for our types of services and for the industry in general. When we look at the
market in surrounding cities, there are too many competitors, certainly more than
5 schools in the city if you look at Toronto and Mississauga. But, when you look
at Ajax, the story changes because this is a different market, a new one, fresh and
ready to start growing.
There are a total of 38,877 households in Ajax. The median household income is
$94,863. Since our tuition is $1200 per month or $14,400 per year (12 months),
there is no doubt that we require most of our clients to have an income of $50,000
and up. With the average being almost double what we require; we are sure to
enter the market with overflowing profits from the beginning of operations. We
enter a range of $50K and $150K or above quite quickly in Ajax. In the range of
$50K to $90K per year, we have approximately 11,000 households. With our
capacity being 95 per school year and with most of our students being repeat
students from the year prior, we are sure that we will able to reach our quota with
11,000 households in the area having more than our require income target.
An important indicator is the amount of people in each household. According to
statistics Canada, there is an average of 4 people in each household. With this
said, there is often a parent group and the child group with an average of 2
children per families. With at least 50% of the households wanting to send their
children to private school, at least a quarter of this can actually afford to send the
children to a private school. Therefore, we are looking at about 3500 families
being potentially interested in sending their kids to our location. With that being
said, we can also conclude that at least 75% of all those approached for
admissions will accept it based on conditions and terms.
Another great profitability indicator for Milestone Montessori is found in the
amount of homes that are owned in Ajax versus those that are rented out.
Because home ownership is an indicator of income sustainability and ability to
afford more commodities than the average medium-wage worker, Milestone
Montessori is happy to say that in the region where we are starting operations,
there are 34,098 homes that are owned versus only 4,779 that are rented.
Construction expansion is currently a wave in the area as well making thousands
of homes per year for the last 10 years. Not only is the area of Ajax pertinent here,
so is the Whitby, Oshawa, and Pickering among the other surrounding cities that
are so intertwined with Ajax. If Ajax, the smallest of all the cities mentioned
above has more home ownership than renters, then we can conclude the same is
true for the surrounding cities. Their connection is almost invisible where people
from Oshawa and Whitby travel back and forth to Ajax on a daily basis without
much hassle2.
Competitors
1. Blaisdale Montessori School – www.blaisdale.com
Address: 365 Kingston Rd.
Pickering, ON.
Telephone No.: 905-509-4547
2 Please click on link for the entire chart of demographics for the city of Ajax in the
Durham Region of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
Strengths at Blaisdale Montessori School are abundant. They have relied on the
Curriculum set by the Canadian Standard for Montessori Instruction and have
done a very good job at maintaining those high standards. The weaknesses may
consist of a few bad apples in the school in terms of assistants not completing
their work and clients complaining about lateness from teachers. Some of the
opportunities that may arise for MM include the ability to learn from their
mistakes and not commit them ourselves. We do not feel that this school is a
threat to our entry into the market, if anything it will work as an ally to get more
business.
2. Great Beginnings Montessori School – www.durhammontessori.com
Address: 505 Adelaide Ave. East
Oshawa, ON.
Telephone No.: 905-432-1400
Strengths at Great Beginnings Montessori School are plentiful; they are filled
with joy and laughter and attend to their students with dedication. Among one of
their weaknesses is their lack of graphic design capabilities expressed through
their website, it is not up to date and it is not according to modern standards.
However, Great Beginnings will serve as an opportunity for MM to enter the
market and have a great start in operating the facility in Ajax as they help to
verify the high standards that the Montessori name carries. As a threat, Great
Beginnings may be a competitor but because we are all working with the same
name, they will not be able to hurt us financially or otherwise. We will make sure
to tackle and overcome all risks and threats posed by this and other Montessori by
simply keeping our standards at their highest and the prices always affordable.
3. Kendalwood Montessori School – www.kendalwoodmontessori.com
Address: 104 Consumers Rd
Whitby, ON.
Telephone No.: 905-665-4766
One of the most important strengths at Kendalwood is that they are the friendliest
people our team has ever met. After visiting their facilities, we noticed their
smiles and could not help it but start smiling ourselves. We appreciated that. We
were welcomed and that shows that they can be a huge threat to us. We must also
imitate them and go a step further by including the community in our festivities.
Thus, becoming friendlier than them and not allowing them to be a threat to us.
With this being said, their weaknesses of being overly friendly can also be our
opportunity as we take on a different perspective of the business and apply their
skills with a bigger budget.
4. Durham Montessori
Address: 505 Adelaide Avenue East
Oshawa, ON.
Telephone No.: 905-432-1400
The strength of this school is their name. By representing the region and district
of education in their name followed by the Montessori tag, they are sure to be
getting a lot of business. This becomes their weakness as well as they become
over-crowded and must expand in order to continue operating (which means more
money to be invested in the school). This is an opportunity for us because we will
not have to expand; we could maintain a 95 capacity and make huge profits,
nevertheless. However, they continue to be a threat as new students continue to
choose them for the name Durham and Montessori. To overcome this, we must
become active in the Durham Region and in some form or another gain the
region’s trust enough to have them sponsor our school. This will be the winning
and even of all competition here.
5. Hatch House Montessori School
Address: 301 Byron Street South
Whitby, ON
Telephone No.: 905-665-7700
The strength of this school is found in their website. It is detailed, informative and
orientated. The weakness, however, is that the website and the concept of the
school itself is very generic. The school sponsors a hatching concept to define
their services but their practices show a lack of attention to detail, at least if I were
to go on their website looking for these type of child care services, I would
definitely opt out of Hatch House simply based on their lack of attention to detail
to their graphics and wording. This, nevertheless, creates an opportunity to MM
as it represents the need to have a great website and great marketing materials to
show clients. The threat can be found if they update their website because of their
years of experience. However, MM can overcome this as it also gains experience
but starts off with a greatly designed, detailed oriented website.
Other Montessori’s Pricing and Competitive Traits differ from one school to
another. While a school in Vaughan may cost $1700 per month, another in
Whitby may only cost $700. The difference is all in location. To understand the
competitive advantage of Milestone Montessori, then one must only look at any
other Montessori and picture it ten times brighter, colourful, and optimistic. Our
people are who will make a difference in the way we render our services to our
community. These are some prices found online, for instance:
 Half-Day Preschool $9,400 per year at Montessori Academy of London at 71
Waterloo Street, London, Ontario, Canada.
 Half-Day Preschool $11,700 at Guelph Montessori 151 Waterloo Avenue in
Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
 Markham Montessori is priced at around $8,000 per year.
 Toronto French Montessori is priced at $11,000 per year.

According to the market hypothesis, market forces encourage schooling
organizations to strategically outsmart their competition in ways that improve the
quality of teaching and learning. Our strategies to overcome and overtake the
competition are the following:
 Our mission to survive or stay ahead of competition beginning with strategic
planning. We have identified our competitors; spotted out our competitor’s
strengths and weaknesses, and planned our strategy based on the information
gathered. Concentrating all our attacking efforts on our competitor’s weaknesses
while avoiding and defending against the strengths is our main priority.
 We have a niche population since we come from a specific cultural background.
Much like Islamic, Jewish, and Christian Schools, we are prepared to make this
Montessori unique by introducing a more spiritual view to things by offering our
clients meditation sessions for the children where their mind and soul can rest for
interim periods throughout the day. This will be at no extra cost to the client.
 We are unique in that we are smart entrepreneurs, we are not rushing this, we are
taking our time, making sure the numbers are correct, the path is smooth and the
certainty almost 100%
 We are not taking chances on risks. We have strategies for management, teaching,
administration, accounting, and all practices behind this project. We are ready to
overcome them.
 By emphasizing on our quality, striving to fulfill our brand promise and working
on our overall brand image; we can build a strong brand image for our business.
Using commonly known symbols will be part of the strategy behind our logo and
we are prepared to stand behind 100% because we believe in it wholeheartedly.
Most of the popular brands in the world today were smaller brands of yesterday.
If we consistently invest in building a brand for our business, we are sure to stay
ahead of competition.
Marketing Strategies
The business world we are entering is definitely an aggressive one where
only leadership will make a solid difference in the profit margins. Thus, we
have come up with valid and reliable ways in which to tackle our marketing
needs. The Business Plan below notes even more strategies, but as an
introductory section, we are only going to apply what matters the most today:
1. Content will be bigger, better and rich in information regarding the industry
we are entering.
2. Social Marketing will be priority in our lists to-do and will be diverse as
much as the market demands diversity. We won’t limit our forums and will
approach Google+, Tmblr, Pinterest, Instagram, among others.
3. As consumers are hit with an increasing number of advertisements, it’s
becoming more important to make content easily and quickly digestible.
Successful blog posts that receive the most social shares also usually have a
common characteristic: they pepper in some well-placed pictures to break
content up and emphasize certain points. Another example is infographics,
which combine images with a minimal amount of text to explain a topic and
provide statistical information or data from research studies. We will be using
Buzzfeed and Pinterest for this purpose.
4. Less is always more. Perhaps an article by Forbes said it best: “there is a
sense that from the hyper-connectivity of our highly-digitized lives to the
bright, flashy, complicated sensory input we’re fed everyday, there is no way
to continue at this pace. As a result, 2013 is likely to be a year where the most
successful marketing strategies will be ones that are not only simple in
nature, but promote goods and services that serve to simplify the consumer’s
life, or even just their customer experience.”
5. Friendly Content will be a MUST. Due to the widespread (and quickly
growing) use of smartphones and tablets, it’s necessary for companies to
create content that’s accessible to mobile users. According to Forbes, “87%
of connected devices sales by 2017 will be tablets and smartphones.”
Whether it’s creating an alternate mobile version of a website or utilizing
responsive web design, it’s important to provide a positive experience to
users that are browsing via a mobile device. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose
customers to competitors who have adapted to this trend. As the shift from
traditional PCs and laptops to mobile devices continues, businesses that
aren’t onboard are likely to suffer.
6. Re-Targeting ADS to grow in effectiveness. This is a marketing strategy that
has really caught on recently. In a nutshell, it works by utilizing browser
cookies to track the websites that users visit. Once they leave a certain site,
the products or services they viewed will be shown to them again in
advertisements across different websites. It’s fairly obvious as to why this
technique can be so effective. With only two percent of web traffic
converting on the first visit, ad retargeting works to increase the overall
conversion rate by reminding consumers of the product or service they
viewed. This keeps the brand and the product at the top of the consumer’s
mind. There are even psychological studies that have shown that simple
exposure to brand names and logos creates familiarity, which builds trust and
makes consumers more likely to make a purchase. Even if there’s no
immediate purchase, this can really pay off in the long run. Due to the
success that many marketers have had with ad retargeting, there’s a good
chance that it will become more mainstream in 2014.
7. SEO and Social Sings will become more difficult to personalize but also
more intertwined. Although social signals still don’t typically carry the same
weight as traditional inbound links, it’s pretty undeniable that they play a role
in organic search rankings these days. After all, they’re one of the three
pillars of SEO. Since the goal of Google and other search engines is to
provide users with the most relevant and highest quality content possible, it
makes sense why they would factor in the number of social shares that a blog
post, article or product page receives. The more people that are sharing a
piece of content, the higher quality it’s likely to be, and therefore its position
should increase within the search engine results pages. It’s no coincidence
that the top-ranking search results tends to have lots of social shares, while
those ranked lower have fewer. Besides this, social shares can serve as a
stamp of approval (i.e., a trust signal) for visitors landing on a page. If they
see that it has hundreds or thousands of shares, it’s likely that there’s
something of value. That’s a big reason why so many businesses are
installing social share plugins and encouraging consumers to share as much
as possible. While it’s difficult to predict algorithms will evolve in the future,
there’s a reasonable chance that social shares will match or even outweigh
traditional inbound links by the end of 2014.
Financial Plans and Assumptions

Efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of this list but we may have missed
something. When in doubt, send us an e-mail milestonemontessori@gmail.com.
Manufacturers may change their formulations without notice, or distributors may
make substitutions to the food order without notice. Manufacturers may produce
items with allergens on the same line as other product. Additionally, there may be
different ingredients that may be from the same food family such as milk, whey,
casein, or soy and soy protein and some children may be allergic to all, none, or a

  • 5. Tab 2 Operations Proposal and Potential Effects of Milestone Montessori Facilities The administration of the school will be properly licensed and comply with the code with regard to the Canadian Education Facilities Act, all Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations as well as all local laws. The building shall provide communication capacities to support the nature of this school. The building will provide adequate heating, ventilation, sanitary conditions, lighting, water supply and all other possible needs to support the staff and students. Classrooms will allow a minimum of 64.27 square feet per student enrolled between the ages of 0 and 5. Ideally, classrooms for students between these ages will also have access to an outside portion of the total square footage (6106 sq. ft. total for 95 students maximum). The classrooms are filled with natural light from the outdoor environment. The facility will accommodate for small kitchens and sinks for every classroom. The Directors are currently looking into building options for renovations in order to ensure sustainability of the proposed program. The Directors intend on building the permanent facility by September 2014. Details about the Building and Floor Plans are included in Appendix J. Administration The Board of Directors will manage administrative services related to Milestone Montessori School directly. The teachers will be employed through the use of the Ontario Standard Teachers’ Contracts. School Personnel such as assistants and teachers will require the appropriate Early Education or Teacher’s certifications and endorsements set out in the Province of Ontario or anywhere in the Country of Canada. Teachers will hold highly qualified positions and will work towards a province-approved curriculum and program of instruction. This will include alternate channels for education in order to meet the standards of excellence as set out by our province. Milestone Montessori will implement the recommendations from the American Montessori Society’s Essential Elements of Successful Montessori School in the Public Sector: First, have an experienced Montessori teacher serve as the curriculum director and coordinator. Second, employ a principal or educational leader that has knowledge and experience in a Montessori school, that is familiar with the curriculum and that meets the expectations for the Montessori school of ethics.
  • 6. Third, always maintain commitment to the curriculum and plan of instruction even if, and when, there may be some changes in administration and staff1. Civil Liabilities Milestone Montessori is incorporated as a for-profit education institution for children between grades pre-junior-kinder to senior kindergarten. The Board of Directors is listed as having the responsibilities of operating the schools under all codes and standards. Ontario Board Association policies will serve as the guidelines for the policy creations until the school’s policies can be developed appropriately. Milestone Montessori operates independently of the Toronto, York, Vaughan, Ajax or Ontario School Board Districts. It is solely responsible for operations including personnel matters, budget preparations and service contracts. It maintains a general liability insurance policy and other types of insurance needed to provide enough coverage for the potential losses described in this section. Milestone Montessori’s employees, director and officers shall have the same immunities as all other employees, director, and officers of public school districts. Copies of insurance binders from a company authorized to do business in Ontario for liability insurance (per occurrence and aggregate coverage), property insurance, worker’s compensation insurance, unemployment insurance, and all or any other insurance coverage required or provided to the commission upon request. All required insurance slips would be in effect upon commencement of operations of Milestone Montessori. Anticipated Impact on the Local School District and Community of Ajax, Ontario DURHAM Region School District has been experiencing a consistent growth since 1997. The schools that have opened in the area since then have already an attendance of at least 665 students enrolled per year. Even with these students not attending the district public school, the Municipality of Durham has passed a $25 million bond for new school construction and improvement in the area in accordance to its growth. The addition of Milestone Montessori to the attendance area will provide another option for residents and will serve the growing need. There is a new interest in the Montessori approach all throughout the province of Ontario. In the Durham Region, there are at least 5 other Montessori Schools. This denotes that there is a growing demand to the schools and there is a market for it. Fortunately for us, we are entering the market with a recognized name, . 1 American Montessori Society. Essential elements of successful Montessori schools in the public sector. http://www.amshq.org/schoolExtras/publicEssentials.html
  • 7. integrity behind our work and all the necessary funding we need to launch a successful business from the beginning. Milestone Montessori will provide students capable of learning and parents capable of affording our tuition prices the best education found in the entire Province, assured and with the exception of the School District’s curriculum.

The Gifted Student Education program is supervised by a staff member and uses the Federal Definition of Children with Outstanding Talent to organize our students: “Children and youth with outstanding talent perform or show the potential for performance at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. These children and youth exhibit high performance capability in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, possess an unusual leadership capacity, or excel in specific academic fields. This is with the purpose of making the child feel at home and have absolutely no anxiety from being away from his or her parents (or guardians). This is a critical stage in life so we want to instill practical skills for survival. These include:  Wiping the table  Laying the table  Getting Dressed  Doing the dusting  Wiping out the floor  And more. The first three years of life is a continuous learning experience and curve. The development fluctuates from one experience to the next. The environment in Milestone Montessori is dedicated to provoking thought in the child and building on responsibilities. As the child continues to work around his or her environment, he or she will experience and explore more of it. This way he will realize his or her fullest potential. The opportunities to work in language, art, music, sensorial and practical life will be there available to the child at all times. The child will learn to gain independence, confidence, control motor skills better and with more precision, focus on activities for longer periods of time and experience life in different ways learning every step of the way. The Toddler community consists of 12 children in one classroom minimum. For each 12, there will be a 1 (one) staff member and a qualified assistant, maintaining the 1:6 ratio. The environment is all about respect and assisting each other with dignity and simplicity. Toileting is an important part of the daily classroom routine. By the time a child is walking, the body has physically developed the muscles needed to control bodily functions-all they need is consistent practice. Children in the Toddler program wear cloth underwear to facilitate easy use of the bathroom. Bathroom routines are developed (scheduled visits are established-upon arrival, before snack, before and after rest time, before leaving. etc.) and the children learn to use the toilet and sink. As the child becomes accustomed to the daily routine they begin to recognize their body's needs and attend to the toileting process more independently. The Toddler Program is designed to be a half-day program. However, Milestone Montessori offers an extended day (11:30am-5pm) for families that require care in the afternoon. The full-day program consists of lunchtime (children participate in arranging the lunch area and eat together), rest time, classroom time, more outdoor time and group activities. Milestone Montessori is an enriched, peaceful environment. The toddler is trying
  • 13. to, and needs to, make sense of the world to create order. The environment and adults protect and nurture the child in this precious formative period of life. Junior Kinder Programs (3-4 Years old) & Senior Kinder Programs (4-5 Years old) From experience, Milestone Montessori understands that the first six years of life are the most important. They are never equaled and are moments of pure potentiality. As Montessori educators, we know that the child has an innate motivation to learn at ages 3 to 5 more so than at any other time, but it is up to parents and guides to provide the right environment in these crucial years to help children reach their highest potential. In that sense, choosing a preschool has become nearly as important as choosing a university. Milestone Montessori’s groundbreaking research on "sensitive periods" in children's development, taught us that when children are intensely interested in a certain type of learning they master it with much greater ease and speed than would be possible at another time. This is a key principle of Montessori education. Montessori's research showed that young children learn best by using their hands, not by looking or listening, so the Montessori materials were developed with that principle in mind. And, we never disappoint! Please note that all Home Program Students must have learned how to use the toilet prior to enrolling. Before and After Care with Milestone Montessori We are pleased to offer an on-site Before and After Care Program to assist families who require extended care for their children because of work or other type of responsibilities. We offer care from 7:00 am to 8:30 am and 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm in a home-style environment that follows Montessori philosophy. The fee is to be determined per hour. Care before 7 a.m. and after 6 p.m. is available with a small fee. Registration at Milestone Montessori Registration forms are included in the Acceptance package. For mid-year enrollment, please contact the school office. Summer Program at Milestone Montessori When interest permits, we anticipate starting a summer program to accommodate MM families. Curriculum at Milestone Montessori
  • 14. Our teachers offer curriculum that presents the Ontario Program of Studies in a very meaningful, contextualized way, using the Montessori lessons as the framework. These lessons present all learning from the "big picture", global perspective first, then proceed to examine the "parts", always returning to the view of the "whole". The spiral offers an effective metaphorical image of the Montessori approach to learning: concepts are presented from whole to part to whole. Click here for a copy of the Ontario Curriculum or visit the Durham District School Board website for more information. • 16. Tab 4 Student Educational Standards Standardized Testing Milestone Montessori as required by law, complies with all testing requirements of the City and Province. Milestone Montessori as a way to determine the progress of all students uses the data generated from these assessments. The EQAO is the standard testing methods for elementary school but for Kindergarten grades there isn’t a standard testing done until the children reach the first grade.
  • 17. Tab 5 Governance Governance Students: At the top of our pyramid are our students. Our students represent the most important and primordial responsibility in our facility. We plan our mission and activities around them and what they need to develop with the best and highest standards of education. We also make sure that all of those that work with us and under our umbrella are the best citizens in their communities, have never violated any laws and are the top educators in the region. Teachers: As a second priority, our teachers represent our school and are trained in the most advanced ways to do so. Highly educated, respectful and ethical, our teachers represent the most humane of all educators because they are taught according to the Montessori standards, the highest so far in the education system. They are served by our school to make sure they are comfortable, happy and at ease with all matters regarding the school. Our teachers are certified educators through the Ministry of Education of Ontario. To be a part of our education team, all of our teachers must go through Teacher’s College in Ontario, or anywhere in Canada, prior to starting their contract with Milestone Montessori. They are all university and college trained professionals that assist Milestone Montessori in further developing your child’s strengths to reach their most potential in life. Assistant Teachers: Last, but not least, our assistant teachers make it all possible. For students to assist our facilities, we must have assistants for our educators. For educators to be able to teach, we need them to have assistants that are as determined, supportive and caring as they are. Our assistants are qualified Early Childhood Educators. They are college-trained professionals that assist Milestone Montessori in the development of your child through care, support and education. The Board of Directors consists of several individuals including a Certified Teacher in the Province of Ontario and an Authorized Montessori Personnel: Directors: Principal: Vice-Principal: Teacher’s College Graduate Authorized Representative: Montessori Authorized Representative: Parental Involvement During several points of the school year, parents will be asked to volunteer for several outings and trips in order to further aid children in being social, analytical and critical thinkers with the support of their loved ones. • 27. Tab 8 Business Plans, Budget, Transportation, Uniforms, Food Services and More Business Plans Description Milestone Montessori is more than just a name. It is a team of professionally trained educators and business experts looking for ways to help society by molding students into wanting to reach their full potential. There are many smart people out there but only those that actually want to progress in life will. It is not an easy task, especially when resources are abundant. In fact, when we have everything we need, it becomes too difficult to reach our full potential because we do not spend the time thinking about change. We simply do not want any change when we have it all. At Milestone Montessori, the goal is to teach that progress and success is earned much like respect in life. Therefore, we strive along with our students to better ourselves each and every day. We teach our students virtues and morals that will take them far in life, we teach patience, empathy, care and love, charity, respect for others, dignity and we maintain that education is the key to helping everyone in the world. With education, our students will reach their full potential and will want to be even more as they graduate from our school. At Milestone Montessori, the goal is to free the minds of our students. There is no stress allowed in our facilities. The minds of our students are fresh blank slates waiting for information to lean on. For these children, what they hear is what they will learn. Our standards are above the ordinary. Our staff is trained to understand how words can disturb a child’s mind. We monitor all of our employees to make sure that at all times there is only positive reinforcement being practiced. We believe in the psychology of teaching students and not just in the content. Although we realize that we must meet the standards by the city, we also realize that learning at this age, comes in many different forms. Our children will learn the art of play, laugh, sleep; they will enjoy quiet times and will read until they fall asleep. Our routines are made so that all children learn something new every single minute or re-establish something learned as they go along day-to-day. For instance, our toddlers will always take their naps alongside a book. This is mandatory at Milestone Montessori, they will touch the book, smell it, play with it, try to read the words and maintain their focus on the book while listening to the teacher or assistant read them a bedtime story. This is to allow the growth and development of wanting to read, as they grow older. This will also be encouraged for the home. Another great example of how we use psychology to teach our students is positive reinforcement. We provide rewards and gifts to the students who achieve their most during a specific week, answer the questions correctly, complete their tasks
  • 28. and obey the rules of the school. Although we are going to be teaching younger children, ages 6 months to 6 years of age, we will be controlling the environment so they follow patterns of rule, obey certain rules set for behavior and listen without interrupting their teachers. This is all with the intent of developing a sense of citizenship and responsibility towards the educational institution and educators, as well as peers, parents and the public in general. Milestone Montessori offers negative reinforcement to teach students when they have done something that is opposite to what they are expected to do. As opposed to several institutions that simply tell the student they have erred (i.e., sat in the wrong chair, spilled the juice, talked during nap time and so on), Milestone Montessori believes that instead the child needs to hear what he or she was supposed to do instead of what they did wrong. MM believes that guidance is the best way to teach, we do not believe in telling our children they are wrong at any point of their lives. This is because they will either realize it themselves or will know the right way of doing it so wont commit the error again. There is no need to drill students into behaving; there is a need to show them the right way of doing things. This is called negative reinforcement: using reinforcement strategies of the reverse behavior to gain the behavior desired. Milestone Montessori believes in the potential of all its students without doubt. By the student becoming part of our family, they are welcomed from the first day and celebrated upon their graduation. They are instilled academic skills, moral values, social responsibility and empathy for their neighbor. They understand that to help others, they must help themselves first and educate their minds to free themselves from poverty, struggle and hardship. Upon graduating with us, all students envision their future with grace, joy and happiness. They look forward to going to grade 1 and beyond; they have already designed their lives for success because that is what they have learned since the beginning of their time with MM. With the students in mind, we earn all parents’ trust. They will know and see through our example that all we care about is the education and healthy development of their children and they will appreciate that. Demographics We are blessed to say we are entering potentially the best market in the Province of Ontario. With economic stability, a keen focus on early childhood education and the prosperity of living in a stress-free city, Ajax is the most suitable location for our types of services and for the industry in general. When we look at the market in surrounding cities, there are too many competitors, certainly more than 5 schools in the city if you look at Toronto and Mississauga. But, when you look at Ajax, the story changes because this is a different market, a new one, fresh and ready to start growing. There are a total of 38,877 households in Ajax. The median household income is $94,863. Since our tuition is $1200 per month or $14,400 per year (12 months),
  • 29. there is no doubt that we require most of our clients to have an income of $50,000 and up. With the average being almost double what we require; we are sure to enter the market with overflowing profits from the beginning of operations. We enter a range of $50K and $150K or above quite quickly in Ajax. In the range of $50K to $90K per year, we have approximately 11,000 households. With our capacity being 95 per school year and with most of our students being repeat students from the year prior, we are sure that we will able to reach our quota with 11,000 households in the area having more than our require income target. An important indicator is the amount of people in each household. According to statistics Canada, there is an average of 4 people in each household. With this said, there is often a parent group and the child group with an average of 2 children per families. With at least 50% of the households wanting to send their children to private school, at least a quarter of this can actually afford to send the children to a private school. Therefore, we are looking at about 3500 families being potentially interested in sending their kids to our location. With that being said, we can also conclude that at least 75% of all those approached for admissions will accept it based on conditions and terms. Another great profitability indicator for Milestone Montessori is found in the amount of homes that are owned in Ajax versus those that are rented out. Because home ownership is an indicator of income sustainability and ability to afford more commodities than the average medium-wage worker, Milestone Montessori is happy to say that in the region where we are starting operations, there are 34,098 homes that are owned versus only 4,779 that are rented. Construction expansion is currently a wave in the area as well making thousands of homes per year for the last 10 years. Not only is the area of Ajax pertinent here, so is the Whitby, Oshawa, and Pickering among the other surrounding cities that are so intertwined with Ajax. If Ajax, the smallest of all the cities mentioned above has more home ownership than renters, then we can conclude the same is true for the surrounding cities. Their connection is almost invisible where people from Oshawa and Whitby travel back and forth to Ajax on a daily basis without much hassle2. Competitors 1. Blaisdale Montessori School – www.blaisdale.com Address: 365 Kingston Rd. Pickering, ON. • 30. Strengths at Blaisdale Montessori School are abundant. They have relied on the Curriculum set by the Canadian Standard for Montessori Instruction and have done a very good job at maintaining those high standards. The weaknesses may consist of a few bad apples in the school in terms of assistants not completing their work and clients complaining about lateness from teachers. Some of the opportunities that may arise for MM include the ability to learn from their mistakes and not commit them ourselves. We do not feel that this school is a threat to our entry into the market, if anything it will work as an ally to get more business. 2. Great Beginnings Montessori School – www.durhammontessori.com Address: 505 Adelaide Ave. East Oshawa, ON. Telephone No.: 905-432-1400 Strengths at Great Beginnings Montessori School are plentiful; they are filled with joy and laughter and attend to their students with dedication. Among one of their weaknesses is their lack of graphic design capabilities expressed through their website, it is not up to date and it is not according to modern standards. However, Great Beginnings will serve as an opportunity for MM to enter the market and have a great start in operating the facility in Ajax as they help to verify the high standards that the Montessori name carries. As a threat, Great Beginnings may be a competitor but because we are all working with the same name, they will not be able to hurt us financially or otherwise. We will make sure to tackle and overcome all risks and threats posed by this and other Montessori by simply keeping our standards at their highest and the prices always affordable. 3. Kendalwood Montessori School – www.kendalwoodmontessori.com Address: 104 Consumers Rd Whitby, ON. Telephone No.: 905-665-4766 One of the most important strengths at Kendalwood is that they are the friendliest people our team has ever met. After visiting their facilities, we noticed their smiles and could not help it but start smiling ourselves. We appreciated that. We were welcomed and that shows that they can be a huge threat to us. We must also imitate them and go a step further by including the community in our festivities. Thus, becoming friendlier than them and not allowing them to be a threat to us. With this being said, their weaknesses of being overly friendly can also be our opportunity as we take on a different perspective of the business and apply their skills with a bigger budget. 4. Durham Montessori Address: 505 Adelaide Avenue East Oshawa, ON. Telephone No.: 905-432-1400
  • 31. The strength of this school is their name. By representing the region and district of education in their name followed by the Montessori tag, they are sure to be getting a lot of business. This becomes their weakness as well as they become over-crowded and must expand in order to continue operating (which means more money to be invested in the school). This is an opportunity for us because we will not have to expand; we could maintain a 95 capacity and make huge profits, nevertheless. However, they continue to be a threat as new students continue to choose them for the name Durham and Montessori. To overcome this, we must become active in the Durham Region and in some form or another gain the region’s trust enough to have them sponsor our school. This will be the winning and even of all competition here. 5. Hatch House Montessori School Address: 301 Byron Street South Whitby, ON Telephone No.: 905-665-7700 The strength of this school is found in their website. It is detailed, informative and orientated. The weakness, however, is that the website and the concept of the school itself is very generic. The school sponsors a hatching concept to define their services but their practices show a lack of attention to detail, at least if I were to go on their website looking for these type of child care services, I would definitely opt out of Hatch House simply based on their lack of attention to detail to their graphics and wording. This, nevertheless, creates an opportunity to MM as it represents the need to have a great website and great marketing materials to show clients. The threat can be found if they update their website because of their years of experience. However, MM can overcome this as it also gains experience but starts off with a greatly designed, detailed oriented website. Other Montessori’s Pricing and Competitive Traits differ from one school to another. While a school in Vaughan may cost $1700 per month, another in Whitby may only cost $700. The difference is all in location. To understand the competitive advantage of Milestone Montessori, then one must only look at any other Montessori and picture it ten times brighter, colourful, and optimistic. Our people are who will make a difference in the way we render our services to our community. These are some prices found online, for instance:  Half-Day Preschool $9,400 per year at Montessori Academy of London at 71 Waterloo Street, London, Ontario, Canada.  Half-Day Preschool $11,700 at Guelph Montessori 151 Waterloo Avenue in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.  Markham Montessori is priced at around $8,000 per year.  Toronto French Montessori is priced at $11,000 per year.

Class Size: Varies Enrolment: Day: Varies (Gr. Nursery/Toddler-8) According to the market hypothesis, market forces encourage schooling organizations to strategically outsmart their competition in ways that improve the quality of teaching and learning. Our strategies to overcome and overtake the competition are the following:  Our mission to survive or stay ahead of competition beginning with strategic planning. We have identified our competitors; spotted out our competitor’s strengths and weaknesses, and planned our strategy based on the information gathered. Concentrating all our attacking efforts on our competitor’s weaknesses while avoiding and defending against the strengths is our main priority.  We have a niche population since we come from a specific cultural background. Much like Islamic, Jewish, and Christian Schools, we are prepared to make this Montessori unique by introducing a more spiritual view to things by offering our clients meditation sessions for the children where their mind and soul can rest for interim periods throughout the day. This will be at no extra cost to the client.  We are unique in that we are smart entrepreneurs, we are not rushing this, we are taking our time, making sure the numbers are correct, the path is smooth and the certainty almost 100%  We are not taking chances on risks. We have strategies for management, teaching, administration, accounting, and all practices behind this project. We are ready to overcome them.  By emphasizing on our quality, striving to fulfill our brand promise and working on our overall brand image; we can build a strong brand image for our business. Using commonly known symbols will be part of the strategy behind our logo and we are prepared to stand behind 100% because we believe in it wholeheartedly. Most of the popular brands in the world today were smaller brands of yesterday. If we consistently invest in building a brand for our business, we are sure to stay ahead of competition.
  • 34. Marketing Strategies The business world we are entering is definitely an aggressive one where only leadership will make a solid difference in the profit margins. Thus, we have come up with valid and reliable ways in which to tackle our marketing needs. The Business Plan below notes even more strategies, but as an introductory section, we are only going to apply what matters the most today: 1. Content will be bigger, better and rich in information regarding the industry we are entering. 2. Social Marketing will be priority in our lists to-do and will be diverse as much as the market demands diversity. We won’t limit our forums and will approach Google+, Tmblr, Pinterest, Instagram, among others. 3. As consumers are hit with an increasing number of advertisements, it’s becoming more important to make content easily and quickly digestible. Successful blog posts that receive the most social shares also usually have a common characteristic: they pepper in some well-placed pictures to break content up and emphasize certain points. Another example is infographics, which combine images with a minimal amount of text to explain a topic and provide statistical information or data from research studies. We will be using Buzzfeed and Pinterest for this purpose. 4. Less is always more. Perhaps an article by Forbes said it best: “there is a sense that from the hyper-connectivity of our highly-digitized lives to the bright, flashy, complicated sensory input we’re fed everyday, there is no way to continue at this pace. As a result, 2013 is likely to be a year where the most successful marketing strategies will be ones that are not only simple in nature, but promote goods and services that serve to simplify the consumer’s life, or even just their customer experience.” 5. Friendly Content will be a MUST. Due to the widespread (and quickly growing) use of smartphones and tablets, it’s necessary for companies to create content that’s accessible to mobile users. According to Forbes, “87% of connected devices sales by 2017 will be tablets and smartphones.” Whether it’s creating an alternate mobile version of a website or utilizing responsive web design, it’s important to provide a positive experience to users that are browsing via a mobile device. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose customers to competitors who have adapted to this trend. As the shift from traditional PCs and laptops to mobile devices continues, businesses that aren’t onboard are likely to suffer. 6. Re-Targeting ADS to grow in effectiveness. This is a marketing strategy that has really caught on recently. In a nutshell, it works by utilizing browser cookies to track the websites that users visit. Once they leave a certain site,
  • 35. the products or services they viewed will be shown to them again in advertisements across different websites. It’s fairly obvious as to why this technique can be so effective. With only two percent of web traffic converting on the first visit, ad retargeting works to increase the overall conversion rate by reminding consumers of the product or service they viewed. This keeps the brand and the product at the top of the consumer’s mind. There are even psychological studies that have shown that simple exposure to brand names and logos creates familiarity, which builds trust and makes consumers more likely to make a purchase. Even if there’s no immediate purchase, this can really pay off in the long run. Due to the success that many marketers have had with ad retargeting, there’s a good chance that it will become more mainstream in 2014. 7. SEO and Social Sings will become more difficult to personalize but also more intertwined. Although social signals still don’t typically carry the same weight as traditional inbound links, it’s pretty undeniable that they play a role in organic search rankings these days. After all, they’re one of the three pillars of SEO. Since the goal of Google and other search engines is to provide users with the most relevant and highest quality content possible, it makes sense why they would factor in the number of social shares that a blog post, article or product page receives. The more people that are sharing a piece of content, the higher quality it’s likely to be, and therefore its position should increase within the search engine results pages. It’s no coincidence that the top-ranking search results tends to have lots of social shares, while those ranked lower have fewer. Besides this, social shares can serve as a stamp of approval (i.e., a trust signal) for visitors landing on a page. If they see that it has hundreds or thousands of shares, it’s likely that there’s something of value. That’s a big reason why so many businesses are installing social share plugins and encouraging consumers to share as much as possible. While it’s difficult to predict algorithms will evolve in the future, there’s a reasonable chance that social shares will match or even outweigh traditional inbound links by the end of 2014.
