Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a
holywar, do not embezzle the spoils; do not break your
pledge; and do not mutilate (the dead) bodies; do not kill
the children. When you meet your enemies who are

respond to any one ofthese, you also accept it and withold
yourselffrom doing them anyharm. Invite them to
(accept) Islam; ifthey respond to you, accept it from them
and desist from fighting against them. Then invite them to
migrate from their lands to the land ofMuhajirs and

to pay, accept it from them and hold offyour hands. If
they refuse to paythe tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them.

By Him in Whose Hand my soul is I was about to
order for collecting fire-wood (fuel) and then order
Someone to pronounce the Adhan for the prayer and then
order someone to lead the prayer then I would go from
behind and burn the houses ofmen who did not present
themselves for the (compulsory7 congregational) prayer. By
Him, in Whose Hands my soul is, if anyone ofthem had
known that he would get a bone covered with good meat
or two (small) pieces ofmeat present in between two ribs,
he would have turned up for the ‘Isha’ prayer.

Faith (belief) consists ofmore than sixtybranches
(i.e. parts). And Haya (This term “Haya” covers a large
number ofconcepts which are to be taken together;
amongst them are selfrespect, modesty, bashfulness, and
scruple, etc.) is a part offaith.

Surely, there is no advantage (preference) for an Arab
over an aajami (non-Arab), nor a non-Arab over an Arab,
nor a white over a black, except by piousness and good
deeds.
Reported by Imaam Ahmad, 22391; al-Silsilat al-
Saheeh, 2700
O people! Your God is one and your forefather
(Adam) is one. An Arab is not better than a non-Arab and
a non-Arab is not better than an Arab, and a red (i.e. white
tinged with red) person is not better than a black person
and a black person is not better than a red person, except
in piety.

sincerely and moderately, and worship Allah in the
forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part ofthe
night, and always adopt a middle, moderate, regular
course whereby you will reach your target (Paradise).

A prostitute was forgiven byAllah, because, passing
by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was
about to die ofthirst, she took offher shoe, and tying it
with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So,
Allah forgave her because ofthat.
61. Bukhari 4:538 This is an extraordinary hadith,
because following the Sunnah ofMuhammad (peace be
upon him), prostitutes can be extremely despised figures
among most Muslims, yet it expresses the idea that even
someone working in one ofthe most despised of
professions, in showing mercy to an animal, can merit the
forgiveness ofAllah, and the wise.
While a man was walking along a road, he became
very' thirsty' and found a well. He lowered himselfinto the
well, drank, and came out. Then [he saw] a dog protruding
its tongue out with thirst. The man said: “This dog has
become exhausted from thirst in the same way as I.” He
lowered himselfinto the well again and filled his shoe with
water. He gave the dog some water to drink. He thanked
God, and [his sins were] forgiven. The Prophet wras then
asked: “Is there a reward for us in our animals?” He said:
“There is a reward in every' living thing.”
