The use of social media by criminal justice agencies
Introduction
Social media today is a very major part of life. From Facebook
to Twitter to Instagram to snap chat to youtube among many
other channels, social media has revolutionized the manner in
which most things are done in the society today because of the
ease of communication that has been provided by the social
media platforms. Social media today is a big part of individual's
everyday lives and its use in the society today has also
revolutionized from being used only as a platform for
entertainment to being used by business and very many agencies
of the government including the criminal justice
agencies(George, 2014). Social media platforms have developed
to form one of the most influential channels of communication
that ever existed in the history of human beings.
The impact that the social media has to the society is not all
good, but there is no doubt that there is a lot of positive that has
been brought by the use of social media in most institutions
such as the criminal justice agencies. The issue of public safety
today has become more sophisticated thanks to social media as
communication has been made easier and also faster. The tools
of law enforcement have evolved over time from making use of
wanted posters to the broad use of the social media platforms.
In this paper, we are going to look at the use of social media in
criminal justice and the effects that this has had both the good
and the bad. The law enforcement agencies today are finding
social media a very valuable tool in their quest to protect
individuals and to serve the public as we are going to discuss in
this paper.
Use of Social Media in Criminal Justice
The Good
Use of the social media in law enforcement agencies has
tremendously grown over the past few years, and this trend is as
a result of more and more law enforcement agencies embracing
and learning how to use the social media and to take advantage
of the eased communication to carry out their operations and
enhance safety. Below are the ways in which social media has
been useful in criminal justice.
*OTHER THAN THE PURPOSE STATEMENT DONT LET
THE PAPER REFER TO ITSELF
*NEEDS A SOURCE IN THIS SECTION
1. Criminal investigations
Social media has become a very major tool of investigation for
the law enforcers. The truth about social media is for every time
we use it we leave clues all over the internet like our
fingerprints (Brunty, Miller & Helenek, 2014). Following the
trend of many individuals putting up a lot of details on their
activities on social media investigating crimes has been made
easier for police. Investigate target often have various
information about them and their activities uploaded to their
various social media pages which could help the law enforcers
to have a clear picture of the suspects. It is surprising how
much personal data can be collected through the social media
platforms to help in convicting or pressing charges against a
suspect.
*investigative target awkward to put something else
Social media also aids in the investigation since it allows the
police to easily identify the various individual a suspected
person associates with from whom they can collect information
from. These associates could also be individuals whom they
commit criminal activities with. Uploaded videos and photos of
the suspect together with other individuals helps investigators
to know faces of people associated with a suspect as well as
names.
According to statistics, there are only 14% of criminal justice
agencies who have not embraces the use of social media as an
investigative tool (Brunty, Miller & Helenek, 2014). For most
of them, social media has proved as an undeniable easy and fast
way to gather information as well as evidence and build a case
against an individual. Take for example a murder suspect.
Assume that the investigators have a name for the murder
suspect. If the traditional investigation process was to be
followed it meant that the police needed to physical locate the
individual and have a search warrant to search their private
property in search of possible evidence.
*DONT BEGAN SENTENCES WITH HOWEVER
*STARTING TO GET REPETITIVE BE CAREFUL OF
PARAGRAPHS THAT DID DONT ADD NEW MATERIAL TO
THE PAPER
However in the face of social media with a possible name, the
first thing that an investigator will do is search on the various
social media platforms to see whether or not the individual is on
social media. Since social media is a public platform, the
investigators do not need to get a warrant to track the activities
of a suspect on social media which could lead to possible
evidence of the crime. The investigators can also make use of
the victim’s social media platforms to search for the suspect by
checking threat messages or images. Following the increased
use of social media as a tool of investigation we have seen
criminals post details of their activities which lead to them
being apprehended.
2. Prevention of crimes and unlawful activities
There is no doubt that the various social media platforms have
made communication easier. The ease to communicate has made
it easy for people to interact across the globe both for positive
reasons and also negative interactions such as crime
organization. Many gang activities and terrorist activities today
are being planned online, explaining the increased inter-
territorial terrorist activities being experienced today. Police
officers can be able to acquire information on a crime being
organized from social media pages such as Facebook in advance
and take action to ensure that the plan does not go through.
Information on crime plans can also be found online by the
public and send it to the police enabling them to intervene early
enough to prevent the crime. Social media pages have also been
useful in tracking unlawful activities. For example, there are
cases that we have heard where individuals have posted images
on terrorist recruitment activities and this gives the police
information on the location and thus helping in the fight against
unlawful activities.
*HE SAYS THIS NEEDS A SOURCE
3. Community policing
Community policing is defined as a philosophy in policing that
is characterized by decentralized policing and the collaboration
of the police officers with the citizens in helping to identify and
also solve various problems. For community policing to be very
effective, there is needed to ensure that law enforcers go to
areas where the public is. In the modern society, millions of
individuals are on the social media platforms, and this,
therefore, means that the law enforcers need to follow the
public there to make community policing effectively in this age.
*HE SAYS THIS IS AWKWARD AND TO WRITE
SOMETHING ELSE THE PART THAT IS BOLDED
Through the social media platforms, the police can easily share
information on crimes which are being investigated such as
images of suspects a car plate numbers among others through
Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms to reach out to the
millions of individuals using social media (Surette, 2015). With
the help of the public, it also becomes very easy to gain
information on the wanted. The public also helps to solve crime
through the social media platforms by answering to the witness
appeals by the police on various crimes.
*DONT BEGAN SENTENCES WITH PREPOSITIONAL
PHRASES, THE PART THAT IS BOLDED
Communications between the public through social media
platforms also helps in ensuring proper community watch. For
example is someone sees something suspicious in their
neighborhood they can share with the rest of the individuals in
the neighborhood and even draw the attention of the police.
Even more importantly, social media has been used in
community policing to help in sharing information such as that
of a missing child. This has proven effective since such an alert
to a mass number of individuals on social media makes the
search more extensive, and this has helped find a lot of missing
individuals.
*THE WHOLE PART THAT IS BOLDED HE SAYS IS
AWKWARD AND TO PUT SOMETHING ELSE
Other uses of the social media include:
• Tracking of location: The sharing of one's location in social
media post has been useful in tracking the location of criminals
(Surette, 2015).
• Public outreach: The social media platforms has also been
used by law enforcers to educate the public on issues such as
avoiding social media victimization by criminals and guidelines
to follow when uploading things online to ensure they do not
reveal too much information which could victimize them.
• Public relations: Just like in business the police also use the
social media to interact with the citizens and build trust with
them forming a strong foundation for effective community
policing.

4th amendment controversy
The finding out of information through the social media through
the social media platforms raises questions on whether or not it
violated the 4th Amendment rights which protect citizens
against unreasonable searches and seizures. However according
to law experts, justification has been provided for the use of
social media to gather information in that when an individual
puts up information on the social media platform, they do not
do this with the intention of keeping the information private.
This means that the information is open for any public use
including use by the law enforcement officers. Storing
information in a third party platform is not protected by the
fourth amendment right provision.
2. Controversies of social media use in court
Even though social media is a god tool for sharing information
there are boundaries to the information that needs to be shared
to the public since some of the information in the criminal
justice agencies is confidential (Hoffmeister, 2014). For
example, information shared from courts needs to be highly
vetted to ensure that too much information is not shared which
could affect the proceedings of a trial as has been the case in
various states or affect the case proceedings at large.
Conclusion
With the evolution of the social media platform more and more
law enforcement agencies will be lured in adopting social media
tactics to make their operations more effective and to take
advantage of the opportunity that this platform provides them.
With such great advantage and efficiency provided by the social
media pages, it is becoming important for law enforcement
officers to undergo training on the efficient use of the social
media platform to help promote their safety goals.
The introduction of social media in the criminal justice
agencies, however, does not mean that the traditional methods
and efforts of policing should be reduced. This is because at the
end of the day policing is a one on one business between
citizens and the officers. The social media platform introduction
in these agencies can only be used to make operations easier
and more effective but not to replace the old policing approach.
Even with the increased crime performance rates over the social
media platforms, the increased use social media by the law
enforcers will help keep up with online crime gangs and make
criminal investigation much easier.

Strategic Plan Part Two: SWOT Analysis
Caterpillar Inc is an American based company that creates plans
and manufactures machinery products which are then sold
through their worldwide network dealers. Every organization
has got own its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
I performed a swot analysis on the new division I was proposing
I realized that it has more strengths than weaknesses. There are
external factors and internal factors that affect every company.
External factors are the challenges that faces the company and
they are caused by external forces .The external factors include
political, economic, Social, technological, ecological and legal
factors. Internal forces on the hand include shareholders,
internal customers and employees. I learnt that products
manufactured from that particular division must be environment
friendly. This means that my products should not pose any
threat to the environment. My proposal is to design a product
that is environment friendly and that will ensure there is profit
maximization in the company at large. My idea is to create a
lawn mower that will minimize cost, light and time effective.
Caterpillar Inc believes that this product will be highly accepted
but their customers. Since the lawn will be of great quality I
ensure this will increase the demand of caterpillar Inc products.
Strengths and Opportunities
Caterpillar Inc produces quality products that are recognized by
customers worldwide. This new division will ensure that
caterpillar Inc attracts more customers, share holders and
investors. The main goal of every company is to maximize
profit and maximize shareholders wealth. Caterpillar Inc is one
of the most growing companies worldwide (Cadle et al., 2014,
p. 78). Their products and services are customer satisfying.
Caterpillar Inc has one of the best supply chains in the whole
world. Their business plan and model bring in great results.
Their employees are well trained and talented and require no
supervision in their job. The company ensures that they do job
evaluation and job appraisal every year. The new product will
bring positive changes to caterpillar Inc. My proposal will
ensure that caterpillar Inc will out do its competitors and be the
best company in the whole world. Caterpillar Inc agrees that my
proposed product will help them achieve their goal of becoming
the best company in the whole world.
Caterpillar Inc should think of improving its construction and
mining activities. These are the best revenue generating
revenues in the industries. If caterpillar Inc can think of
expanding its mining industries in china then they can increase
income in the company. Joy Global is caterpillar’s Inc closest
competitor and in order to beat them caterpillar Inc should
introduce mining and construction activities (Speth & Probert,
2015, p. 67). My proposed lawn which is natural gas powered
will help them beat Joy Global. This product is new in the
market and it will be of great importance to caterpillar Inc. If
the company should grab these opportunities and retain its
strength then it has a great chance of becoming the best
company in the whole world.
Weaknesses and Threats
Caterpillar Inc needs to boost its debt to equity ratio. The
caterpillar Inc believes new products are of great value than
previous model. This Ztrak will help the company boost its debt
to equity ratio. If this product is well utilized by the caterpillar
in then they will be able to overtake their competitors. Since the
lawn mower is environment friendly it will be easily accepted
by their clients, investors and shareholders. Europe is one of
the most revenue generating areas of caterpillar Inc and the
ongoing crisis in Europe is affecting its growth. I believe that
my idea will help boost all income generating areas in the
country. Caterpillar Inc is experiencing high competition from
Joy Global which is a manufacturing industry from Japan. Joy
Global is expanding its business in china and this is becoming a
threat to caterpillar Inc. there is inflation in china which is
another threat in this company. The lawn will try and cope with
the above threats.
Economic, Legal and Regulatory Forces and Trends
The ongoing inflation in china and economic crisis in Europe
are affecting the company. My proposal may not be able to
handle the crisis but it will generate enough revenue that will
boost the crisis in the various countries. The hybrid will be
registered legally to avoid any legal problems. Caterpillar is a
legally registered company that generates high revenue to the
American government and other countries. Caterpillar in is
adapting well to the new changes. They believe that my
proposal is a great idea and should be designed as soon as
possible. They believe that the mower will help them increase
their income, their shareholders as well as their clients.
Customer satisfaction is every company’s aim and caterpillar
Inc believes the product will be of quality and will be highly
longed-for by their clients.
The hybrid will provide positive changes to the company. It will
maximize the profits and increase demand of caterpillar Inc
products (Speth & Probert, 2015, p. 89). I plan to motivate
employees in my division. This will help the employee to work
hard and ensure maximum input in the organization. I plan to
produce quality products that will not face any competition in
the market industries. I will ensure that my customers will
always come back for more products. I am working to ensure
caterpillar Inc achieves its goal of becoming the best product in
the whole world. Their products are always of good quality and
so will be my product
The main problem facing caterpillar Inc is stiff problem from
Joy Global. I believe my proposal will help curb this problem.
This is a new product that has not been introduced in any other
company therefore it will be able to reduce competition before
the other companies adapts the lawn. According to my
hypothesis the hybrid has more strengths than weaknesses
therefore it fit to be introduced in the market place.
Conclusion
In conclusion, every company should perform a Swot analysis
before adopting any changes. This will help them determine if
the change will affect the company positively or negatively.
Companies should take care of both external and internal
factors. These factors influence the amount of revenue
generated by the company. Caterpillar Inc should take all the
opportunities available. This will help them maximize their
profit. Employee training and evaluation is another important
aspect that caterpillar Inc should adopt in order to achieve their
goals.

In this case of Caterpillar Inc., we will consider the four
perspectives; these includes the financial perspective, this will
include the market share of the company, the revenue earned by
the firm as compared to the costs incurred. The levels of the
profits attained and the level and the competition position. The
second perspective includes the customer value. In this
perspective, we will cover the ability of the company to retain
the customers and the rate of turnovers. We will also include
the customer satisfaction and the customer value. We will also
include the process or the internal operations perspective. In
this area, we will measure the process performance, the
improvements made in productivity, the operations metrics and
the impacts that could occur in the organization as a result of a
change. The last perspective will be the learning and growth
perspective; this will include perspectives in different areas
including in employee satisfaction, this will give reasons if the
employees are satisfied which will directly affect their turnover
or retention. Organizational capabilities will also be included in
this area. The culture of the organization is also contained in
this section and also the technological innovations (Mba, 2013).
The company have shown some great improvements in different
in financial sector. Caterpillar Inc. has aimed at increasing the
value of the stakeholders by maintain a good performance
despite the challenges faced as a result of the stiff competition.
It’s in this perspective that we understand the investment
potential and the funding needs of the company. From the fourth
quarter 2016 of the Caterpillar Inc., there are various things
observed. The company reported a revenue decrease by -13.2%.
This however, was not critical since that of its competitors fell
by -15.71%. By the next quarter, the company should aim at
increasing the sales which will lead to a rise in revenues. For
the cases of the engine segment market share, it improved the
market position while that of the competitors reduced by
42.97%. On the financing and insurance segment market share,
it recorded a growth of 7.59%. This was an improvement of
5.14%. It maintained its market share on the machinery segment
while the sales of its competitors dropped in the same year. The
sales were stagnant which led to loss in market share in the
resource industry machinery section. This risk can be mitigated
by establishing new designs of the products and encouraging of
marketing of the company’s products (McNair, 2013).
On the customer value perspective, the company have made
great strides in ensuring that it retain its customers through
satisfying them and maintaining the value of the products. The
company sought to better determine the client demand by
leveraging the internet. It created an online dealer storefront
that was made accessible for both the customers and dealers.
The company had a modified chain, where it could order the
materials in line with the demand of the customers. The dealer
network provided the highest level of services to the end. The
company have been promoting some particular product line; this
is done by the use of dealers and the internet. All the dealers, as
well as the site, is made visible. This makes the customers to be
satisfied by the services, and in turn, they remain loyal to the
company. Products are also distributed to the customers within
their designated time frames (Reidenbach, Goeke, & McClung,
2002).
For the internal process perspective, Caterpillar Inc. focuses on
the activities and some major processes that are required for the
company to make provisions of value products as per the
demand of the customers. There are significant operations
process that are employed by Caterpillar Inc. Some of these
processes include product design. The company have been able
to dominate over the rivals by ensuring that it remain active in
product design. It innovates to meet customer’s needs and
ensures that the client’s needs are fully satisfied. Demand
management is the other process in which the company
concentrates on. The company have been making forecast on the
requirements and thus request raw materials in advance that are
enough to cater for the all the need of the clients. Caterpillar
Inc. is also concerned on the quality management where
products are made defect free this helps in attracting and
retaining high number of customers. The supply chain systems
are made to be consistent. There is material management that
ensures that there is consistent delivery of finished products to
the customers. Goods are delivered at the right place, time,
quantity, quality and the right costs all the time. The other
operational process is the capacity building. Caterpillar Inc.
aims at improving the workplace values. The company is
concerned with the rights of the employees. It offers the right
environment for them to grow their careers (Mathaisel, 2008).
The last perspective is on learning and growth perspective. This
involves the employees training and the company cultural
attitude that have been connected to the individual and company
self-improvement. There has been an increased technological
growth in the market. This have made the company to conduct
training on continuous basis. This is done to help them to be
line with what the competitor companies are offering. New
designs of the products are required in the markets. This means
that there is requirement of new skills to enable the production
of new design demanded in the market. The new technology has
also allowed the production to be efficient and more goods can
be produced within a short time. Training have also ensured that
the products offered to the clients are defect free. As a result,
Caterpillar Inc. have been able to retain the highest number of
customers. For the cases of the employees, they also feel
appreciated and thus work hard to achieve their targets, this
have had an overall effect in the performance of the whole
company (Mukerjee, 2008).
There are various ways in which the communication plan will be
implemented. It will be utilized throughout the communication
of the strategic plan, and the business model. The information
will be gathered from different sources and then linked to the
company’s mission, and vision. For any information that is
confidential, it will be encrypted. Communication to the staff
will involve use of meetings thus face-to-face method. To the
customers, the distribution of the information will be through
written materials and for those that are close, face-to-face
communication will be used.
With the above strategies being implemented, Caterpillar Inc is
assured that its performance in the market will continue to
improve and this will attract a significant market share. Sales
made by the company will be high revenues recorded over the
years will always be positive.

Business Model and Strategic Plan Part 1: Proposal of a New
Product Division of an Existing Business: Caterpillar Inc.
Caterpillar Inc. is a major producer and manufacturer of various
products for several different industries, among that is
landscaping. My proposal is to launch a new division to
improve the company's current landscaping machines revenue
and also improve the environment. This particular division is
going to concentrate on the expansion as well as the production
of hybrid lawn mowers. Considering the ongoing endeavors
available to have a more responsible way of living, the idea of
running lawn mowers using different sources other than
gasoline is a rapidly expanding concept, and Caterpillar Inc.
believes that it is going to be commonly acknowledged by the
customers. The organization's reputation will solely help to
create the customer’s assurance in the new item, and the
efficiency, as well as a contribution to the cleaner atmosphere,
is going to establish the worthiness of the machine.
Caterpillar Inc. believes that hybrid lawn maintenance systems
are going to adapt perfectly within the existing mission
statement, as well as increase more towards the dedication to
the customers and the environment. This new merchandise is
going to be lighter in weight, efficient, faster accelerating, and
minimize the rate of pollution and fumes while operating.
The division's mission is going to be: Caterpillar Inc. Eco-
Division is devoted to transforming proper lawn care experience
by developing revolutionary lawn mowers as well as riding
mowers that will incorporate value and efficiency for maximum
outcomes. This particular division is powered by the interest
for customer ease and comfort in conjunction with marketing a
universal environment that is cleaner and better, guided by
credibility and measured by the final outcomes. In the division,
we will utilize our expertise, reputation, understanding, and
analysis to develop and create items that fortify our company
devotion and inspire our current consumers, and the newcomers.
Caterpillar Inc. is dedicated to being the first brand in unique
hybrid landscaping merchandise.
Addressing customer needs and achieving competitive
advantage
The Caterpillar Inc. ZTrak design is going to be the first
product to become a hybrid, and nevertheless, solar energy will
drive the machine. The product will concentrate on developing
equilibrium of efficiency and the cost while promoting an
environment with a clean atmosphere. Caterpillar Inc. features
a formidable foundation of loyal clients who invest in their
products on a regular basis and believe that any new item the
company manufactures is likely to be more advanced than the
previous model. The aim is to attract the current consumers
within the unveiling of the new machine, utilizing them to
evaluate and give useful suggestions for future enhancements.
This method provides the current clients a feeling of ownership
to make sure they feel involved in the project, given that they
invest a great deal into the organization. The division is going
to be producing ZTrak-M hybrid mowers about marginal
household utilization along with ZTrak-Rhybrid designs
intended for more strong industrial works. Given that strict
measures are being subjected to corporations to “Go Green”
Caterpillar Inc. is seeking to promote this new concept before
the competitors catch up. We intend to acquire a competitive
advantage through the provision of an excellent approach to
demonstrate their consternation for the globe and their client’s
welfare and health. The division wants the clients to feel like a
part of the group, and not merely another proprietor of the
items.
Caterpillar Inc.’s vision and business model
The vision of Caterpillar Inc. for this new hybrid mower
department is to create a worldwide energy-efficient,
environmentally friendly product to adjust to the current
‘environmentally friendly’ community. The division is positive
that there are a potential demand and an interest in hybrid
machines within an international level, and an expectation that
the hybrid lawn mowers are going to be the starting point of a
fast expanding section within the lawn maintenance market.
Caterpillar Inc. is famous for its well-planned organizational
tactics - Its dedication and enthusiasm to servicing the forestry,
construction, agricultural, turf, and industrial sectors as well as
relentlessly enhancing machines and performance - which has
rated them among the world’s most esteemed corporations. This
has made it possible for the division to create an international
model and retain a high-quality production, and place the
division in a prominent placement to fully take advantage of
international growth. The division will utilize a similar guiding
principle to develop the Caterpillar Inc. hybrid lawn mower
model to an exceptional importance inside the lawn maintenance
sector. The division perceives that the approach to attain
continued success is through the development of original items
that focus on the customer’s demanding requirements and
requirements of the universal environment, as well as delivering
on the commitment to enhance the general standard of living.
The focus of the item is to develop a tangible division of goods
that are going to enable the consumers and associates to take
pleasure in the rewards of promoting an internationally
acknowledged company with the premier edge systems.
Vision, mission, and values
The Hybrid division is a section of the Caterpillar Inc. to make
sure they share a similar vision, mission and values as the
principal organization. “Since 1837, Caterpillar Inc. has
experienced transformations within the business, its goods and
services. Transformation usually features opportunity, and
Caterpillar Inc. has constantly been willing to adapt to it.
However, through it all, Caterpillar Inc. continues to be
committed to those who are connected to the land - farmers,
ranchers, landowners, builders, and they have under no
circumstances outgrown or overlooked its founder’s primary
key principles: innovation, quality, integrity, and commitment”
("Caterpillar Inc.-Our Company", (n.d)). .
The mission statement for Caterpillar Inc. is that they are
devoted to serving individuals linked to the land, and thus
helping to enhance the standards of living for folks all over.
The company is also an international leader with a diversified
set of incorporated strengths, and target to keep on developing
new and advanced technology to the customers' products for a
better environment to provide upcoming generations a more
healthy future. The company also works hard each day to
maintain, live as well as breathe out the organization’s primary
values of innovation, quality, integrity, and commitment.
Strategic direction
Caterpillar Inc. has a goal of providing quality goods with
advanced technology around the world. The diplomatic route is
to create the most efficient and environmentally friendly lawn
maintenance systems on the existing market. The division
desires to create a confidence level in the consumers by
achieving and outperforming their needs on quality, production
as well as distribution. Caterpillar Inc. utilizes experienced
professionals within the Marketing and Sales, Innovation as
well as Development groups, and Engineering and
Manufacturing. Collectively they are going to strive to develop
an innovative product that will stay ahead of other
organizations, and employ it to transform the game within the
lawn maintenance sector. Each new item sold and analyzed will
signify the collaborated initiatives of every section within the
division. To build on consumer confidence, every item will
have a two-year warranty along with a reliable refund of the
money assurance in case they are not satisfied.
Guiding principles and values
Caterpillar Inc. as a whole organization functions under the
following key values - innovation, quality, integrity, and
commitment. Additionally, they function under five guiding
principles - creating long-term associations with their clients
through helping them to be more satisfied, lucrative and
effective, developing a powerful enterprise where personnel
efforts are acknowledged, recognized as well as honored,
providing continuous value towards the shareholders, creating
mutually advantageous connections with vendors, self-employed
sellers as well as other channels of distribution, and creating a
significant contribution towards the areas they operate in as
well as towards the society in general (Pearce, 2013).
Remaining steady with their history of reliability as well
as great commercial citizenship, the administrators, staff
members as well as representatives are devoted to carrying out
business as outlined by the top ethical requirements. These
standards target fair dealing, disputes of interest, safeguards of
organization assets, reporting infractions of the criteria, as well
as responsibility for devotedness towards the code. By
connecting workers, management as well as the unit and
divisional targets to Caterpillar Inc.’s general company goals,
the division will be able to acquire the aligned power of high-
performance teamwork.
Conclusion
Caterpillar Inc. is, and will continue to be a leading
manufacturer of products for several distinct customer
requirements. Their reputation is formidable, allowing for new
models to instantly intrigue the consumers, gain their trust and
feel assured that they are being given quality merchandise that
is going to deliver on its promise. The Hybrid lawn mower
division plans to provide customers an innovative item that is
going to streamline the duties in their life and contribute to a
cleaner environment for all. Utilizing a team of specialists to
develop their vision will develop a strategic organization
structure that exhibits their four fundamental values of
innovation, quality, integrity, and commitment. Caterpillar
Inc.’s staff members will always look at the big picture and act
in the direction of a long-term worldwide perspective.
Caterpillar Inc. wants to keep on building on the trust of the
international community by establishing an example with the
optimum ethical specifications. The outcome is a job well done
for Caterpillar Inc. along with a quality product and intact
reputation to our customers.

Running Head: The us of social media by criminal justice agencies 1 The us of social media by criminal justice agencies Social Media In Everyday Lives student university Literature Review The use of social media by criminal justice agencies Introduction Social media today is a very major part of life. From Facebook to Twitter to Instagram to snap chat to youtube among many other channels, social media has revolutionized the manner in which most things are done in the society today because of the ease of communication that has been provided by the social media platforms. Social media today is a big part of individual's everyday lives and its use in the society today has also revolutionized from being used only as a platform for entertainment to being used by business and very many agencies of the government including the criminal justice agencies(George, 2014). Social media platforms have developed to form one of the most influential channels of communication
  • 2. that ever existed in the history of human beings. The impact that the social media has to the society is not all good, but there is no doubt that there is a lot of positive that has been brought by the use of social media in most institutions such as the criminal justice agencies. The issue of public safety today has become more sophisticated thanks to social media as communication has been made easier and also faster. The tools of law enforcement have evolved over time from making use of wanted posters to the broad use of the social media platforms. In this paper, we are going to look at the use of social media in criminal justice and the effects that this has had both the good and the bad. The law enforcement agencies today are finding social media a very valuable tool in their quest to protect individuals and to serve the public as we are going to discuss in this paper. Use of Social Media in Criminal Justice The Good Use of the social media in law enforcement agencies has tremendously grown over the past few years, and this trend is as a result of more and more law enforcement agencies embracing and learning how to use the social media and to take advantage of the eased communication to carry out their operations and enhance safety. Below are the ways in which social media has been useful in criminal justice. *OTHER THAN THE PURPOSE STATEMENT DONT LET THE PAPER REFER TO ITSELF *NEEDS A SOURCE IN THIS SECTION 1. Criminal investigations Social media has become a very major tool of investigation for the law enforcers. The truth about social media is for every time we use it we leave clues all over the internet like our fingerprints (Brunty, Miller & Helenek, 2014). Following the trend of many individuals putting up a lot of details on their activities on social media investigating crimes has been made easier for police. Investigate target often have various information about them and their activities uploaded to their
  • 3. various social media pages which could help the law enforcers to have a clear picture of the suspects. It is surprising how much personal data can be collected through the social media platforms to help in convicting or pressing charges against a suspect. *investigative target awkward to put something else Social media also aids in the investigation since it allows the police to easily identify the various individual a suspected person associates with from whom they can collect information from. These associates could also be individuals whom they commit criminal activities with. Uploaded videos and photos of the suspect together with other individuals helps investigators to know faces of people associated with a suspect as well as names. According to statistics, there are only 14% of criminal justice agencies who have not embraces the use of social media as an investigative tool (Brunty, Miller & Helenek, 2014). For most of them, social media has proved as an undeniable easy and fast way to gather information as well as evidence and build a case against an individual. Take for example a murder suspect. Assume that the investigators have a name for the murder suspect. If the traditional investigation process was to be followed it meant that the police needed to physical locate the individual and have a search warrant to search their private property in search of possible evidence. *DONT BEGAN SENTENCES WITH HOWEVER *STARTING TO GET REPETITIVE BE CAREFUL OF PARAGRAPHS THAT DID DONT ADD NEW MATERIAL TO THE PAPER However in the face of social media with a possible name, the first thing that an investigator will do is search on the various social media platforms to see whether or not the individual is on social media. Since social media is a public platform, the investigators do not need to get a warrant to track the activities of a suspect on social media which could lead to possible evidence of the crime. The investigators can also make use of
  • 4. the victim’s social media platforms to search for the suspect by checking threat messages or images. Following the increased use of social media as a tool of investigation we have seen criminals post details of their activities which lead to them being apprehended. 2. Prevention of crimes and unlawful activities There is no doubt that the various social media platforms have made communication easier. The ease to communicate has made it easy for people to interact across the globe both for positive reasons and also negative interactions such as crime organization. Many gang activities and terrorist activities today are being planned online, explaining the increased inter- territorial terrorist activities being experienced today. Police officers can be able to acquire information on a crime being organized from social media pages such as Facebook in advance and take action to ensure that the plan does not go through. Information on crime plans can also be found online by the public and send it to the police enabling them to intervene early enough to prevent the crime. Social media pages have also been useful in tracking unlawful activities. For example, there are cases that we have heard where individuals have posted images on terrorist recruitment activities and this gives the police information on the location and thus helping in the fight against unlawful activities. *HE SAYS THIS NEEDS A SOURCE 3. Community policing Community policing is defined as a philosophy in policing that is characterized by decentralized policing and the collaboration of the police officers with the citizens in helping to identify and also solve various problems. For community policing to be very effective, there is needed to ensure that law enforcers go to areas where the public is. In the modern society, millions of individuals are on the social media platforms, and this, therefore, means that the law enforcers need to follow the public there to make community policing effectively in this age. *HE SAYS THIS IS AWKWARD AND TO WRITE
  • 5. SOMETHING ELSE THE PART THAT IS BOLDED Through the social media platforms, the police can easily share information on crimes which are being investigated such as images of suspects a car plate numbers among others through Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms to reach out to the millions of individuals using social media (Surette, 2015). With the help of the public, it also becomes very easy to gain information on the wanted. The public also helps to solve crime through the social media platforms by answering to the witness appeals by the police on various crimes. *DONT BEGAN SENTENCES WITH PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES, THE PART THAT IS BOLDED Communications between the public through social media platforms also helps in ensuring proper community watch. For example is someone sees something suspicious in their neighborhood they can share with the rest of the individuals in the neighborhood and even draw the attention of the police. Even more importantly, social media has been used in community policing to help in sharing information such as that of a missing child. This has proven effective since such an alert to a mass number of individuals on social media makes the search more extensive, and this has helped find a lot of missing individuals. *THE WHOLE PART THAT IS BOLDED HE SAYS IS AWKWARD AND TO PUT SOMETHING ELSE Other uses of the social media include: • Tracking of location: The sharing of one's location in social media post has been useful in tracking the location of criminals (Surette, 2015). • Public outreach: The social media platforms has also been used by law enforcers to educate the public on issues such as avoiding social media victimization by criminals and guidelines to follow when uploading things online to ensure they do not reveal too much information which could victimize them. • Public relations: Just like in business the police also use the social media to interact with the citizens and build trust with
  • 6. them forming a strong foundation for effective community policing. The Bad *WHAT ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA BEING USED TO ORGANIZE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY OR THE IMPACT OF RECORDING/POSTING POLICE ACTIVITY ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR TERRORISTS USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO SPREAD FEAR/ PROPAGANDA 4th amendment controversy The finding out of information through the social media through the social media platforms raises questions on whether or not it violated the 4th Amendment rights which protect citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures. However according to law experts, justification has been provided for the use of social media to gather information in that when an individual puts up information on the social media platform, they do not do this with the intention of keeping the information private. This means that the information is open for any public use including use by the law enforcement officers. Storing information in a third party platform is not protected by the fourth amendment right provision. 2. Controversies of social media use in court Even though social media is a god tool for sharing information there are boundaries to the information that needs to be shared to the public since some of the information in the criminal justice agencies is confidential (Hoffmeister, 2014). For example, information shared from courts needs to be highly vetted to ensure that too much information is not shared which could affect the proceedings of a trial as has been the case in various states or affect the case proceedings at large. Conclusion With the evolution of the social media platform more and more law enforcement agencies will be lured in adopting social media tactics to make their operations more effective and to take advantage of the opportunity that this platform provides them. With such great advantage and efficiency provided by the social
  • 7. media pages, it is becoming important for law enforcement officers to undergo training on the efficient use of the social media platform to help promote their safety goals. The introduction of social media in the criminal justice agencies, however, does not mean that the traditional methods and efforts of policing should be reduced. This is because at the end of the day policing is a one on one business between citizens and the officers. The social media platform introduction in these agencies can only be used to make operations easier and more effective but not to replace the old policing approach. Even with the increased crime performance rates over the social media platforms, the increased use social media by the law enforcers will help keep up with online crime gangs and make criminal investigation much easier. *INCLUDE POLICY IMPLANTATION OR RECOMENDATIONS IN THIS CONCLUSION *NO BULLET POINTS OR NUMBERS *NEEDS TWO MORE SOURCES *THE SINGLE WORDS THAT ARE HIGHLIGHTED NEED TO BE CHANGED, NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS References Brunty, J., Miller, L. & Helenek, K. Running Head: STRATEGIC PLANNING PART TWO 1 STRATEGIC PLANNING PART TWO 2 Strategic Planning Swot Analysis Helen Jackson BUS/475 Daniel Magnole April 3, 2017 Strategic Plan Part Two: SWOT Analysis Caterpillar Inc is an American based company that creates plans and manufactures machinery products which are then sold through their worldwide network dealers. Every organization has got own its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. I performed a swot analysis on the new division I was proposing I realized that it has more strengths than weaknesses. There are external factors and internal factors that affect every company. External factors are the challenges that faces the company and they are caused by external forces .The external factors include political, economic, Social, technological, ecological and legal
  • 9. factors. Internal forces on the hand include shareholders, internal customers and employees. I learnt that products manufactured from that particular division must be environment friendly. This means that my products should not pose any threat to the environment. My proposal is to design a product that is environment friendly and that will ensure there is profit maximization in the company at large. My idea is to create a lawn mower that will minimize cost, light and time effective. Caterpillar Inc believes that this product will be highly accepted but their customers. Since the lawn will be of great quality I ensure this will increase the demand of caterpillar Inc products. Strengths and Opportunities Caterpillar Inc produces quality products that are recognized by customers worldwide. This new division will ensure that caterpillar Inc attracts more customers, share holders and investors. The main goal of every company is to maximize profit and maximize shareholders wealth. Caterpillar Inc is one of the most growing companies worldwide (Cadle et al., 2014, p. 78). Their products and services are customer satisfying. Caterpillar Inc has one of the best supply chains in the whole world. Their business plan and model bring in great results. Their employees are well trained and talented and require no supervision in their job. The company ensures that they do job evaluation and job appraisal every year. The new product will bring positive changes to caterpillar Inc. My proposal will ensure that caterpillar Inc will out do its competitors and be the best company in the whole world. Caterpillar Inc agrees that my proposed product will help them achieve their goal of becoming the best company in the whole world. Caterpillar Inc should think of improving its construction and mining activities. These are the best revenue generating revenues in the industries. If caterpillar Inc can think of expanding its mining industries in china then they can increase income in the company. Joy Global is caterpillar’s Inc closest competitor and in order to beat them caterpillar Inc should introduce mining and construction activities (Speth & Probert,
  • 10. 2015, p. 67). My proposed lawn which is natural gas powered will help them beat Joy Global. This product is new in the market and it will be of great importance to caterpillar Inc. If the company should grab these opportunities and retain its strength then it has a great chance of becoming the best company in the whole world. Weaknesses and Threats Caterpillar Inc needs to boost its debt to equity ratio. The caterpillar Inc believes new products are of great value than previous model. This Ztrak will help the company boost its debt to equity ratio. If this product is well utilized by the caterpillar in then they will be able to overtake their competitors. Since the lawn mower is environment friendly it will be easily accepted by their clients, investors and shareholders. Europe is one of the most revenue generating areas of caterpillar Inc and the ongoing crisis in Europe is affecting its growth. I believe that my idea will help boost all income generating areas in the country. Caterpillar Inc is experiencing high competition from Joy Global which is a manufacturing industry from Japan. Joy Global is expanding its business in china and this is becoming a threat to caterpillar Inc. there is inflation in china which is another threat in this company. The lawn will try and cope with the above threats. Economic, Legal and Regulatory Forces and Trends The ongoing inflation in china and economic crisis in Europe are affecting the company. My proposal may not be able to handle the crisis but it will generate enough revenue that will boost the crisis in the various countries. The hybrid will be registered legally to avoid any legal problems. Caterpillar is a legally registered company that generates high revenue to the American government and other countries. Caterpillar in is adapting well to the new changes. They believe that my proposal is a great idea and should be designed as soon as possible. They believe that the mower will help them increase their income, their shareholders as well as their clients. Customer satisfaction is every company’s aim and caterpillar
  • 11. Inc believes the product will be of quality and will be highly longed-for by their clients. The hybrid will provide positive changes to the company. It will maximize the profits and increase demand of caterpillar Inc products (Speth & Probert, 2015, p. 89). I plan to motivate employees in my division. This will help the employee to work hard and ensure maximum input in the organization. I plan to produce quality products that will not face any competition in the market industries. I will ensure that my customers will always come back for more products. I am working to ensure caterpillar Inc achieves its goal of becoming the best product in the whole world. Their products are always of good quality and so will be my product The main problem facing caterpillar Inc is stiff problem from Joy Global. I believe my proposal will help curb this problem. This is a new product that has not been introduced in any other company therefore it will be able to reduce competition before the other companies adapts the lawn. According to my hypothesis the hybrid has more strengths than weaknesses therefore it fit to be introduced in the market place. Conclusion In conclusion, every company should perform a Swot analysis before adopting any changes. This will help them determine if the change will affect the company positively or negatively. Companies should take care of both external and internal factors. These factors influence the amount of revenue generated by the company. Caterpillar Inc should take all the opportunities available. This will help them maximize their profit. Employee training and evaluation is another important aspect that caterpillar Inc should adopt in order to achieve their goals. • 16. Employee Performance 95% 98% 100% In this case of Caterpillar Inc., we will consider the four perspectives; these includes the financial perspective, this will include the market share of the company, the revenue earned by the firm as compared to the costs incurred. The levels of the profits attained and the level and the competition position. The second perspective includes the customer value. In this perspective, we will cover the ability of the company to retain the customers and the rate of turnovers. We will also include the customer satisfaction and the customer value. The company have shown some great improvements in different in financial sector. On the financing and insurance segment market share, it recorded a growth of 7.59%. This was an improvement of 5.14%. It maintained its market share on the machinery segment while the sales of its competitors dropped in the same year. The sales were stagnant which led to loss in market share in the resource industry machinery section. This risk can be mitigated by establishing new designs of the products and encouraging of marketing of the company’s products (McNair, 2013). On the customer value perspective, the company have made great strides in ensuring that it retain its customers through satisfying them and maintaining the value of the products. The company sought to better determine the client demand by leveraging the internet. It created an online dealer storefront that was made accessible for both the customers and dealers. The company had a modified chain, where it could order the materials in line with the demand of the customers. The dealer network provided the highest level of services to the end. The company have been promoting some particular product line; this is done by the use of dealers and the internet. All the dealers, as well as the site, is made visible. This makes the customers to be satisfied by the services, and in turn, they remain loyal to the company. Products are also distributed to the customers within their designated time frames (Reidenbach, Goeke, & McClung, 2002). For the internal process perspective, Caterpillar Inc. focuses on the activities and some major processes that are required for the company to make provisions of value products as per the demand of the customers. There are significant operations process that are employed by Caterpillar Inc. Some of these processes include product design. The company have been able to dominate over the rivals by ensuring that it remain active in product design. It innovates to meet customer’s needs and ensures that the client’s needs are fully satisfied. Demand management is the other process in which the company

Caterpillar Inc. is also concerned on the quality management where products are made defect free this helps in attracting and retaining high number of customers. The supply chain systems are made to be consistent. There is material management that ensures that there is consistent delivery of finished products to the customers. Goods are delivered at the right place, time, quantity, quality and the right costs all the time. The other operational process is the capacity building. Caterpillar Inc. aims at improving the workplace values. The company is concerned with the rights of the employees. It offers the right environment for them to grow their careers (Mathaisel, 2008). The last perspective is on learning and growth perspective. This involves the employees training and the company cultural attitude that have been connected to the individual and company self-improvement. There has been an increased technological growth in the market. This have made the company to conduct training on continuous basis. This is done to help them to be line with what the competitor companies are offering. New designs of the products are required in the markets. This means that there is requirement of new skills to enable the production of new design demanded in the market. The new technology has also allowed the production to be efficient and more goods can be produced within a short time. Training have also ensured that the products offered to the clients are defect free. As a result, Caterpillar Inc. have been able to retain the highest number of customers. For the cases of the employees, they also feel appreciated and thus work hard to achieve their targets, this have had an overall effect in the performance of the whole company (Mukerjee, 2008). There are various ways in which the communication plan will be implemented. It will be utilized throughout the communication of the strategic plan, and the business model. The information will be gathered from different sources and then linked to the

With the above strategies being implemented, Caterpillar Inc is assured that its performance in the market will continue to improve and this will attract a significant market share. Sales made by the company will be high revenues recorded over the years will always be positive. References Mathaisel, D. F. (2008). Caterpillar Inc. is a major producer and manufacturer of various products for several different industries, among that is landscaping. My proposal is to launch a new division to improve the company's current landscaping machines revenue and also improve the environment. This particular division is going to concentrate on the expansion as well as the production of hybrid lawn mowers. Considering the ongoing endeavors available to have a more responsible way of living, the idea of running lawn mowers using different sources other than gasoline is a rapidly expanding concept, and Caterpillar Inc. believes that it is going to be commonly acknowledged by the customers. The organization's reputation will solely help to
