2. Overview:
How we made our decision
What we needed to get there
Once on the cloud - things to remember
3. How we made our decision:
We wanted to start developing an application using
ArcGIS Server
We are a State Agency that is under the DCS Contract
What are the costs of new server with DCS vs. Amazon
EC2
How long would it take to get the software loaded and
configured
4. What we needed to get there:
Funding for the cloud
An account with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
An authorized EDN/ArcGIS Server license
An authorized ArcGIS desktop license
5. Once on the Cloud – Remember:
Change the password for Administrator
Uncheck the EC2 Configuration Setting that sets the
computer name of the Instance to the IP
Use an Elastic IP if you are going to Stop/Start Instance
to save $$$
After restarting an Instance wait 5 – 10 minutes before
associating your Elastic IP with the Instance
Deauthorize the ArcGIS desktop license before
terminating an instance
If you terminate an Instance the D drive will persist –
so put everything there to save it, then you can attach
this drive to the new Instance and copy everything
over. Then delete the attached drive to save $$$
