2. Enterprise Architect (2000 – 2004) [HR title: Technical Architect V]
Constructed business and technology roadmaps; ∼ Designed enterprise-wide processes for planning, building and maintaining
IT systems; ∼ Managed and rationalized the official application portfolio; ∼ Defined and deployed a standard software
development lifecycle method and toolset; ∼ Supported key business units in clearly defining their IT needs; ∼ Participated in
technology assessments and selection; ∼ Acted as lead IT architecture liaison to the Network organization.
• Helped reduce IT costs by over $500M through the successful consolidation of three divisional IT organizations under a
single rational structure of around 10,000 people, combining duplicate functions and introducing common processes and
tools.
• Reduced a critical architecture resource shortage that was delaying many projects for months by introducing a company-
wide approach for managing ideas and a platform for early capture and assessment of ideas at low very cost. This allowed
key business customers to better focus portfolio spending, reduce labor wasted on abandoned projects, and increased
throughput.
• Significantly improved the software development effectiveness and maturity as part of a team that created a new software
development lifecycle method and tool set. Helped win its adoption across the entire enterprise for all major IT development,
including its use on a major program that implemented a massive one-million-hour effort in a single deployment.
Network Service Assurance Architect (1994 – 2000) [HR title: Technical Specialist II]
Managed a team of systems architects and designers; ~ Provided architecture & design leadership for customer network
management products and internal network management tools; ∼ Improved departmental development process maturity and
helping the organization adopt new development models; ∼ Worked with key technology vendors to influence their strategic
product roadmaps for mutual benefit; ∼ Mentored younger developers and provided design consulting services to various
internal development teams.
• Successfully guided the standardization of network service assurance tools—specifying target tools, introducing new tools
and replacing older ones in a cost effective manner. Scope included network fault, performance and testing capabilities
across multiple networks, technologies and organizations.
• Founded an internal object oriented technology user community that grew to more than 500 technologists. Served as the
organization’s first president, hosting semi-annual conferences in three cities.
