1. M2 : UE 5 Project Management Unit Description
(Specialised for the English-speaking world)
Duration: 10 Hours class contact. It is, however, expected that students wishing to successfully
complete the unit will spend a minimum of a further 15-20 hours outside class researching and preparing the
assessed material, liaising with colleagues and reading around the subject area.
Objectives:
•To harness and build upon pre-existing knowledge of Project Management (from UE4 International Project
Management Unit) and of related business functions
•To extend and deepen the understanding of Project Management through immersion and application within an
entirely practical, Realistic Project Management Scenario environment which runs throughout this unit.
•To develop a practical understanding of, and ability to work successfully with: people, systems; processes and
business contexts operating within an English (and where appropriate, American) culture.
•To develop and hone teamwork, research and communication skills (particularly: online research, report-writing
and presentation)
•To critically appraise and reflect upon the project management process in practice within the designated cultural
context.
Programme/Plan: (Based on 3 x3 hour sessions plus a 1x1 hr exam/assessment session) spread over the
September – December semester.)
Concept: The Programme is conceived as a ‘live’ Realistic Project Management Scenario (assignment N°2)
running throughout the unit. The student cohort will be given an entirely realistic project commission) and will
manage the delivery thereof. The Unit Tutor will also have a role in support of the student activity, which will
enable him to offer academic, technical, contextual and professional assistance. At Masters’ level, after students
have already completed an International Project Management unit (in UE4), it is anticipated that the tutor’s role
will be one of guidance and support rather than wholly directive.
