The Magna Carta is Latin for greater Charter and all though now known as such, was not mentioned by King John or the any of the barons during
1215. The name Magna Carta was instead slowly and gradually used to describe the document King John had agreed to. The reason for the use of
greater charter was due to a need to separate two different charters that had been created. After King John had passed his son Henry III ascended to the

The Signing of the Magna Carta Those in our country that teach about the United States government will at one point bring up the signing of the
Magna Carta as a pivotal point in the establishing the principle of the government is accountable to the laws of the common man. Before this point the
king sat on high and dictated how people were to live there lives alongside the church while not being held accountable to the laws that he made. This
lead to great resentment when a king was seen as tyrannical. So the Magna Carta or 'the Great Charter' was created to help curb the King John II of
England when he wanted to continue the war with France, set boundaries on what the king could do without the consent of the 'council', and bind the
ruler of the land to his subjects in such a way that he had to obey his own rules. In the time leading up to the signing of the 'Great Charter' King John
had lost his holdings in France after several unsuccessful military endeavors. To help reclaim these holdings King John demanded that his barons
provide him with more men and money to take the land back. However he did this without forewarning his barons about the increasing demand that he

First, the Magna Carta is a legal document that was written in 1215. It was written to acknowledge the carelessness of the kings doing in England to
abuse his power while watching the other English people suffer, and to also enforce a set of rules that everyone, including himself, would have to follow.
Dating back to about 1772 BCE the Amorite King Hammurabi issued a set of laws after conquering Mesopotamia, by the name of law codes of
Hammurabi(source 2.1). It was to place boundaries and penalties on people due to their choice of action. In source 2.1 of our book it says that,
Hammurabi did it in order to "cause justice to prevail in the land" and to "further the welfare of the people which supports that idea. Just like the Magna
