The brush strokes and variation of shades of color that Van Gogh is known for creates a texture that
make the painting seem rough but soft at the same time.
Van Gough uses the elemental pieces of art to form the principle of his design. Swirls in the sky
give the feeling of movement as the wind is blowing while looking over the town on a cold night.
The swirls in the sky also draw the viewer to move their eyes across the painting and look down at
the town and then back to the large cypress tree. This is Van Gough's use of asymmetrical balance
and use of variety to let the viewer take in all the elements of the painting. The different sizes or
proportion of the stars, town and cypress tree are all perceived different in real life, but Van
Gough uses size to draw attention toward and away from objects while the similar brush stokes

This painting is fairly realistic, so as far as the type of art, the objective was met. However,
emotionalism is also an objective, because the artist imitates reality, but also draws inward for
emotion. Good balance is shown in the painting, I would say it is symmetrical. Rhythm is also well
shown, as you gaze at the painting, your eyes moving around as each part flows into another.
Emphasis is shown on the night sky and the great black figure. Proportion is difficult to describe, as
it is difficult to discern just how big the black figure really is. Variety in the mystical castle and
the quaint town is well shown. Harmony is shown in the way that parts of the painting come
together. Space, value, texture, and shape are the dominant elements of art, as stated in the

The clocks are melting and there is a lot of mystery in the darkness of the painting. The only
objects in the painting that don't seem to look strange is the small tree on which one of the
clocks is melting and the mountain in the background. The persistence of memory is supposed to
represent what kind of things are seen when in a dream state in Dali's own memory. I think that
the clocks are melting because when you have a dream it feels like it's a few minutes long
however when you awaken from a dream you find that night is gone and the morning is already

The first thing I notice in The Starry Night is the sky in the background because it stands out the
most. There are many shining stars, the big bright crescent moon and wind swirls painted throughout
the blue sky using contrasting colours like orange, yellow and white. Through the swirling wind,
thick curve lines are flowing across the sky to form this spiral–like formation. Eleven yellow stars
which look like huge fireballs lighten the whole art piece by contrasting with the cool blue, dark
night sky that contains a variety of shades of blue and grey. There is also the crescent moon at the
top right–hand corner that is bigger and emits an even brighter light compared to the rest of the
stars. Next, I notice the giant cypress tree on the left side because of how its proportion is a lot
bigger than everything else in the rest of the painting. It blocks out part of the sky and the village
located at the bottom. The village houses are tiny and painted in the shade. It is compact and is close
to the hills and its surrounding objects which makes the houses blend in and become unnoticeable.
Many elements and principles are portrayed in this art piece. To begin with, the first thing I see
and grabs my attention is the swirling wind. Rhythm and Movement can be seen and it creates a
flow to the rest of the painting in which leads your eyes to follow along the path of the swirl and

his most famous painting, although at the time it was his strangest. The painting is currently held
at the MOMA or Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and has been since the year of
1941. Van Gogh painted this in the month of June in the year 1889. It is an oil painting on a canvas

Everybody knows the story of how Van Gogh mutilated his own ear. This is true, but it only
happened because of a massive mental breakdown in December of 1888. In May of 1889, Van
Gogh admitted himself into the asylum due to his mental state. There he would sit in his room and
look out the one window that he had. This is actually the source of the scene within The Starry Night
. The small town is Saint–RГ©my–de–Provence, which is in southern France. He had a view, the
exact view that we see in the painting, of this town from his sanitarium room window. Of course, he
left out the visual of the metal bars in the window. Although he started to go mentally insane, his
mental illnesses allowed him to do great things. The painting depicts Saint–RГ©my at night, even
though he painted it from memory during the daytime. This was not the only account of this. He
later had to repaint an image because it had been destroyed in travel after he was discharged from

This painting is beautiful. The orange flowers in the corner and blues all around give the painting
a very nice warm and cool contrast. The very soft lines in the stems of the flower give the
painting a sense of movement. When I look at the painting I really feel like I am sitting in my
grandma's garden on a nice spring day with the wind blowing so soft. The different color greens
give the painting a sense of space and depth because the farther it goes back the lighter the color
becomes. There is no real focal point on this painting, but my eyes are drawn right to the orange
and that gives me a real sense of strength and power. To me, this painting is not just a beautiful sea

The following evaluation is based on the premise that art is creativity, popular, and masterful
technique. Creativity, popular, and masterful technique is important because it allows us to exclude
plagiarism, biased art, and sloppy. First, art can be creative but not plagiarised because then is is

group. Finally, art can also have masterful technique but cannot be sloppy. With all of this in mind,

1853. He was known to be a self–taught painter of the post–impressionist style. Post–impressionism
was used to describe the development of French art since Manet. Vincent van Gogh artist style was
to practice the uses of bright colors, distinctive brush strokes, thick application of paint, and
unwavering subject matter about the realities of life in this masterpiece. Vincent van Gogh found his
place in art and produced emotional and visually attractive paintings over the course of a career that
lasted about a decade.
The reason why Vincent van Gogh created the portray called "The Starry Night" was because he
began to suffer hallucination and have thoughts of suicide as he plunged into depression. Just before
sunrise, he was inspired by the east–facing window view of his asylum room at
Saint–RГ©my–de–Provence which he later uses his imagination to create the artwork. The Starry
Night masterpiece was based on van Gogh's direct observations as well as his imagination,
memories, and emotions of the sunset at the asylum. He also wrote a letter to his brother Theo van
Gogh about him seeing an amazing view which was stated: "This morning I saw the country from
my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big".
This part of the letter was evidence that he created "The Starry Night" because he was inspired by
