3. Importance of Maintaining Ethics in Robotics
and Artificial Intelligence.
Mechanical Electrical
Computer
Science
Robotics
• Robots andAI’s are programmed to
replicate human brains.
• Ethics is important as Robots and
AI’s are getting smarter.
• Robots andArtificial Intelligence is
taking the control.
4. Robots are implemented in the following fields:
Industries for manufacturing Health Cares
Restaurants Military Purposes
5. Why Ethics for Robots and AI is important?
• Unemployment:
Example:
It will be unethical to replace the garments industries in Bangladesh with
robotics and AI.
Survey shows that around 31% of people are afraid of losing jobs because
of robotics
6. We cant rely on AI and robot on everything
• Robot doesn’t have the feeling a human posses hence cant be used everywhere.
Example: Robot as a Surgeon in Medicals.
7. Real life cases of Robotics
• In 2006, there were 77 reported robot-related accidents in England
alone, according to the Health and Safety Executive.
• In 2007 a military robot used in the South African army killed nine
soldiers after a malfunction
• In 2015 robot killed a contractor at aVolkswagen production plant in
western Germany
• In 1979, Robert Williams was a worker at a Ford Motor Company
factory
8. Ethical Issues in Robotic Surgery
• Time lag between surgeons commands and action of
robot could harm the patient
• Loss of power in an electrical failure
• Robotics does not replace human intelligence, skill and experience (Essortment, 2002)
9. Three Laws of Robotics
• A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction,
allow a human being to come to harm.
• A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except
where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
• A robot must protect its own existence as long as such
protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
10. Understanding and addressing ethical and moral issues related to AI.
Constraining the machines actions to avoid unethical outcomes.
Engineers should when developing artificial intelligence enable it be
transparent to inspection.
Ethical RPA development ensures the positive image of the automation
industry.
Improving collaboration across bordars and stakeholder groups.
11. Developing policies in ethical way to assure that
development of AI will be directed at augmenting humans
and the common good.
Engineers and programmers should include some
framework to protect or at least inform the user about
unexpected behaviors of AI.
Shifting priorities of economic ,political and education
system to empower individuals to stay ahead in the race
with the robots.
In order for AI to be truly transformative in a positive way
we need a set of ethical norms, standards and practical
methodologies.
To ensure the best future of AI we need to ramp up efforts
in the areas of decentralizing data ownership.
