2. Psychosis: A severe mental disorder
in which thought and emotions are
so impaired that contact is lost with
external reality
It can happen to anyone, but
usually develops in late teens/
early adulthood.
3. Psychosis effects 3 in every 100
people, making it a common
illness
When somebody in a family
has psychosis, everyone is
effected.
4. Psychosis effects more males than
females, but women tend to develop
psychosis later in life than men.
25% of people who develop psychosis will
never have another episode, another 50%
may have more than 1 episode, but will be
able to live normal lives.
5. Psychosis can be treated successfully
if people get help early.
The earlier people get help the
better the outcome.
6. In general, there is no known way to
prevent most psychotic disorders, but
many of the related symptoms can be
prevented with early detection and
treatment
