Not so long ago I was thinking about starting a series called “Tool of the Week.” I was inspired by a fork/spade thing I had found to help me get dandelions out of our yard. After hours and hours and pulling weeds, and two sunburns, I began to rethink my tool. I had probably spent 10 hours pulling weeds and our yard only looked a little better. Clearly I was not using the right tool.

The Right Tool
Not so long ago I was thinking about starting a series called “Tool of the Week.” I was inspired by
a f ork/spade thing I had f ound to help me get dandelions out of our yard. Af ter hours and hours
and pulling weeds, and two sunburns, I began to rethink my tool. I had probably spent 10 hours
pulling weeds and our yard only looked a little better. Clearly I was not using the right tool.
Our chiropractor f riend suggested last week that we use a lawn spray. For the same cost as the
spade, we were able to buy a bottle of this stuf f and treat our lawn. (Well, we needed two bottles,
but we had two spades… I’m digressing, sorry). Today, f our days later, the dandelions are all
dead. Hours were saved and once again the chiropractor saved the day (and our backs).
We found the right tool.
In all the f ree time that I’ve had since not pulling weeds, I’ve been able to think about blog articles,
social media marketing, and the ins and outs of our business. Then it all clicked.
I had an article idea.
Both lawns AND businesses have weeds that need to be taken care of .
All we need is the right tool to handle our project.
Whether you’re looking f or a way to make social media less painf ul, your newsletter more streamlined, or
lessen your workload, there’s always a tool out there to help. Here are a f ew of my f avorites:
Podio.com – Podio is my pick f or project management. Seemingly more customizable than TeamWork or
Basecamp, I love how each Podio workspace can be molded to do exactly what you need it to.
Hootsuite.com – If you want an easy way to schedule all your social media posts f rom one central location
this is the tool f or you. Depending on how many social networks you set up it may even be f ree f or you!
Appointy.com – Although I’ve used dif f erent online scheduling programs in the past, Appointy blew the others
out of the water. I’ve added a button to our website to allow visitors to make appointments, and I’ve also added
the link to my scheduling page to my email signature. Time that was previously spent playing email tag trying to
coordinate meeting times is now spent writing articles f or our blog!
What are you doing to make sure YOU use the right tool? How about hiring a virtual assistant to help you f ind
the tools that meet your need(s)?
