You can select up to 4 schemes when you apply
There is no upper age limit
You can apply to many of the schemes with a 2:2 degree
Fast Streamers have genuine responsibility from day one
Civil Service Fast Stream
• Depending on the scheme the starting salary is between £25,000 -
£28,000
• For many schemes this rises to £32,000 after two years
• After four years many Fast Streamers move into senior positions
earning between £45,000 - £55,000

You will need to complete two
online questionnaires that consist
of several questions to test
behavioral style and situational
judgment
This online exercise requires you to
use your decision making skills to
respond to a series of emails, given a
choice of options.

Respond via your webcam / device to a
number of pre-recorded interview
questions about your motivation and
strengths. Depending on the schemes
that you have selected you may be asked
to submit some additional evidence to
support your application.
If you pass the online test stage you’ll be
invited to attend an assessment centre. The
assessment centre reflects some of the key
elements of a Fast Stream role. It consists of a
leadership exercise, a group exercise and an
analysis exercise.
You will go through a final selection process when applying for all Fast Stream schemes except
Generalist, HR, Commercial and Finance.

Civil Service Fast Stream
• The largest scheme in terms of numbers, it gives you a breadth of
experience across Government. You can get involved in most jobs in
Government, such as Security & Defence, EU Exit, Trade & Economy,
Infrastructure & Industry etc.
• You can do anything from policy roles, to managing large operational
teams, to finance roles. (and many, many more)
• £45-55k at Grade 7
• 3 year scheme – 3 postings of a year each with a choice of a six-month
secondment
• Work as one of the UK’s future diplomats in
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
• The premier overseas posting scheme
– 3 years with 3 roles
• Roles include policy work as a desk officer on
a country
• Operational work abroad in embassies and
consulates.
• £45-55k at Grade 7
• Work at the heart of democracy in the Houses
of Parliament
• You can support Parliamentary Committees,
facilitate debates and advise MPs on
Parliamentary procedure.
• £49k+ at Grade 7 (4 years)
On the Government Statistical Service Fast Stream, you’ll
work across government applying your analytical talents to
tackle the big issues for the UK.
Requirements
•You need to be eligible to work in the UK
•you need, or expect to have, a 2:1 Honours degree in a subject containing formal
statistical training, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Psychology,
Geography or similar,
•or you need, or expect to have, a Higher Degree, such as an MSc or PhD in a subject
containing formal statistical training
About
On the Government Statistical Service Fast Stream you can use your statistical expertise to influence social and economic activity
at regional, national and international levels whilst developing your knowledge and understanding of what makes a great leader.
We need people with the analytical and leadership skills to shape the way the Government Statistical Service (GSS) responds to an
increasingly data-hungry world.
The numbers and analysis we produce are at the centre of the stories that make the news and affect our lives. As a statistician you
will use your expertise and develop data science skills to tackle the big issues affecting society and learn how to lead teams in this
area.

What is it?
As a Digital, Data and Technology Fast Streamer you will design, build and run services
which are used by millions of people every day. Services such as GOV.UK, Apply for a driving
licence or Setup a private limited company.
Roles
You will try a range of roles including Delivery Manager, Product Manager, Content
Designer, User Researcher, Data Scientist, Digital Policy Officer and more.
Pay: £45-55k at Grade 7
Timeline:
Years 1 & 2 - four 6-month placements. Projects may include creating tools which make it
easier and faster for people to access government services.
Years 3 & 4 - two 12-month placement. You’ll own an exciting project, tasked with more
greater responsibilities while keeping up with your career development. By the end of your
final 12-month placement, you will be a leader equipped with some of the most highly
sought after digital, data and technology skills.
Project managers are the people who get the ball rolling; finding the best path forward and
identifying the resource requirements, and obtaining buy in.
• Get training through the Fast Stream: 1 project management course for each project
management year.
• Difficult to get that rate of Project Management development outside of the Fast
Stream.
• Access to project and programmes you don’t get anywhere else
• Examples:
– discerning the direction of the future capability of our armed forces
– Managing the rollout of EU engagement services
• £45-55k at Grade 7 (4 years)

What?
• Finance business partner - providing financial advice and challenge to non-
finance colleagues, based on sound understanding of your business area
• Strategic Finance - coordinating and analysing information for high-profile strategic
documents and setting budgets according to organisational priorities
• Financial Control and Operations - producing complete, accurate and timely
management information or helping produce the annual accounts
How?
• 4 years: 3 x 1-year government finance postings; 6-month external secondment; 6-
month 'complementary' civil service posting
• 2:1 degree required
• Additional selection criteria: Numerical Test
• Every year, government spends £160bn with private suppliers on
a huge range of goods and services, from the construction and
operation of prisons, to the connectivity systems that enable
battlefield communications for our armed forces.
• Your role could include anything from managing multimillion-
pound IT contracts to working on the strategy for future
procurement of medicines.
• The Commercial Fast Stream is three years long. This consists of
2x 12-month postings, followed by 2x 6-months posting.
• If you pass the assessments at the end of the scheme, you can
expect a salary of £58k+, as well as up to 15% performance-
related pay on top of this!
• In HR you can quickly take an influential role in
the running of the Civil Service.
– Manage recruitment, departmental events, and
people.
• CIPD accreditation and a part-time masters
qualification in HR.
• £45-55k after 3 years
– 2 x 18 month postings
• Requires an economics-related degree: 2:1 or higher, or 50% of a mixed degree to be in economics.
– Primarily the analysis and interpretation of data to support policy.
– Can work in any department, your career is much more under your control.
– Examples: DWP – using analytical techniques to identify fraud and error in Universal Credit
• MOD – Conducting impact analysis on defence procurement to determine future defence
spending plans.
• EU Exit – Apply models to policy assumptions to provide evidence bases for Ministers to
debate approaches.
• Pay - £50-60k at Grade 7
• Average of 4 years but no minimum or maximum limit
• Every 6-12 months you will move posts in the Department

Civil Service Fast Stream

  • 3. • A 2 to 4 year leadership development programme • A choice of 15 schemes • A blend of structured and on-the-job learning • 1,500+ roles each year • Preparation for senior leadership roles within the Civil Service
  • 6. You can select up to 4 schemes when you apply There is no upper age limit You can apply to many of the schemes with a 2:2 degree Fast Streamers have genuine responsibility from day one
  • 8. • Depending on the scheme the starting salary is between £25,000 - £28,000 • For many schemes this rises to £32,000 after two years • After four years many Fast Streamers move into senior positions earning between £45,000 - £55,000
  • 9. Year 2: Campus Outreach: Fast Stream Ambassadors work with universities across the UK
  • 11. Interns are paid and receive training A six to nine week work placement over the summer For final year undergraduates from under represented groups Interns have their expenses paid A one week placement in the spring For first year undergraduates from under represented groups
  • 13. 1 2 You will need to complete two online questionnaires that consist of several questions to test behavioral style and situational judgment This online exercise requires you to use your decision making skills to respond to a series of emails, given a choice of options.
  • 14. 3 4 5 Respond via your webcam / device to a number of pre-recorded interview questions about your motivation and strengths. Depending on the schemes that you have selected you may be asked to submit some additional evidence to support your application. If you pass the online test stage you’ll be invited to attend an assessment centre. The assessment centre reflects some of the key elements of a Fast Stream role. It consists of a leadership exercise, a group exercise and an analysis exercise. You will go through a final selection process when applying for all Fast Stream schemes except Generalist, HR, Commercial and Finance.
  • 20. • The largest scheme in terms of numbers, it gives you a breadth of experience across Government. You can get involved in most jobs in Government, such as Security & Defence, EU Exit, Trade & Economy, Infrastructure & Industry etc. • You can do anything from policy roles, to managing large operational teams, to finance roles. (and many, many more) • £45-55k at Grade 7 • 3 year scheme – 3 postings of a year each with a choice of a six-month secondment
  • 21. • Work as one of the UK’s future diplomats in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. • The premier overseas posting scheme – 3 years with 3 roles • Roles include policy work as a desk officer on a country • Operational work abroad in embassies and consulates. • £45-55k at Grade 7
  • 22. • Work at the heart of democracy in the Houses of Parliament • You can support Parliamentary Committees, facilitate debates and advise MPs on Parliamentary procedure. • £49k+ at Grade 7 (4 years)
  • 23. On the Government Statistical Service Fast Stream, you’ll work across government applying your analytical talents to tackle the big issues for the UK. Requirements •You need to be eligible to work in the UK •you need, or expect to have, a 2:1 Honours degree in a subject containing formal statistical training, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Psychology, Geography or similar, •or you need, or expect to have, a Higher Degree, such as an MSc or PhD in a subject containing formal statistical training

About On the Government Statistical Service Fast Stream you can use your statistical expertise to influence social and economic activity at regional, national and international levels whilst developing your knowledge and understanding of what makes a great leader. We need people with the analytical and leadership skills to shape the way the Government Statistical Service (GSS) responds to an increasingly data-hungry world. The numbers and analysis we produce are at the centre of the stories that make the news and affect our lives. As a statistician you will use your expertise and develop data science skills to tackle the big issues affecting society and learn how to lead teams in this area.   • 25. What is it? As a Digital, Data and Technology Fast Streamer you will design, build and run services which are used by millions of people every day. Services such as GOV.UK, Apply for a driving licence or Setup a private limited company. Roles You will try a range of roles including Delivery Manager, Product Manager, Content Designer, User Researcher, Data Scientist, Digital Policy Officer and more. Pay: £45-55k at Grade 7 Timeline: Years 1 & 2 - four 6-month placements. Projects may include creating tools which make it easier and faster for people to access government services. Years 3 & 4 - two 12-month placement. You’ll own an exciting project, tasked with more greater responsibilities while keeping up with your career development. By the end of your final 12-month placement, you will be a leader equipped with some of the most highly sought after digital, data and technology skills.

Project managers are the people who get the ball rolling; finding the best path forward and identifying the resource requirements, and obtaining buy in. • Get training through the Fast Stream: 1 project management course for each project management year. • Difficult to get that rate of Project Management development outside of the Fast Stream. • Access to project and programmes you don’t get anywhere else • Examples: – discerning the direction of the future capability of our armed forces – Managing the rollout of EU engagement services • £45-55k at Grade 7 (4 years)

Why? • Make your mark on some of the most important economic and financial issues facing the UK • Help ensure public services are delivered effectively and efficiently, putting finance at the heart of decision-making • Gain a professional accountancy qualification, fully funded and with study leave What? • Finance business partner - providing financial advice and challenge to non- finance colleagues, based on sound understanding of your business area • Strategic Finance - coordinating and analysing information for high-profile strategic documents and setting budgets according to organisational priorities • Financial Control and Operations - producing complete, accurate and timely management information or helping produce the annual accounts How? • 4 years: 3 x 1-year government finance postings; 6-month external secondment; 6- month 'complementary' civil service posting • 2:1 degree required • Additional selection criteria: Numerical Test
  • 28. • Every year, government spends £160bn with private suppliers on a huge range of goods and services, from the construction and operation of prisons, to the connectivity systems that enable battlefield communications for our armed forces. • Your role could include anything from managing multimillion- pound IT contracts to working on the strategy for future procurement of medicines. • The Commercial Fast Stream is three years long. This consists of 2x 12-month postings, followed by 2x 6-months posting. • If you pass the assessments at the end of the scheme, you can expect a salary of £58k+, as well as up to 15% performance- related pay on top of this!
  • 29. • In HR you can quickly take an influential role in the running of the Civil Service. – Manage recruitment, departmental events, and people. • CIPD accreditation and a part-time masters qualification in HR. • £45-55k after 3 years – 2 x 18 month postings
  • 30. • Requires an economics-related degree: 2:1 or higher, or 50% of a mixed degree to be in economics. – Primarily the analysis and interpretation of data to support policy. – Can work in any department, your career is much more under your control. – Examples: DWP – using analytical techniques to identify fraud and error in Universal Credit • MOD – Conducting impact analysis on defence procurement to determine future defence spending plans. • EU Exit – Apply models to policy assumptions to provide evidence bases for Ministers to debate approaches. • Pay - £50-60k at Grade 7 • Average of 4 years but no minimum or maximum limit • Every 6-12 months you will move posts in the Department
