Behind the scene of cosmetology
"I was taught as a child that if you work and persevere you will accomplish your goals. It
is my goal to become a great hairdresser and make the world a more beautiful place.”(N., Amber.)
. What Amber meant was that at least everybody has been taught to stand straight and do anything
to reach the goal they desired. In her case, she wants to become a cosmetologist; therefore, she
can make an even more beautiful world. The labor department saysthat the employment rate
should grow up to 14 % throughout the years of 2010 and 2020. ("U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics.”), what is cosmetology, what is the history of cosmetology, How to become a
cosmetologist, Why is it important to society, How does shampoo affect your hair.
The word “kosmetikos” was the original word for cosmetology, and it meant to use
cosmetics talented ("History of Cosmetology.”). The meaning of cosmetology means the care of
nail, hair, and skin. Some cosmetologists apply makeup, hair removal, and much more care

services. They should provide hair wash, cutting hair, and other thing that are involved with
cosmetology.("Build Your Future with O*NET OnLine.”). Women from Romethought the
meaning of cosmetology meant the uses of natural resources, which was not the meaning ("History
of Cosmetology.”).
Cosmetology has a very long historyit was first seen by the Egyptians. They wore make up
on their face and other places too. Their make were made out of natural resources. In Chinese, old
days, Asians painted their nails by using material such as egg whites bees wax and other materials.
To the Asian culture wearing cosmetics showed a high class. Greeks used fragrances and
cosmetics through their grooming. They also used them for religious and medical reasons.Greeks
used ways to dress their hair, skin, and nail care.Rome woman thought hair dying was their way to
show status in society. Like the Greeks Rome woman fill them self with perfumes also.
In middle ages, European women were not supposed to wear any kind of cosmetic. But
they still wore them anyway.Cosmetics were so adore to them that they used this powdered that
contain this type of led that contained arsenic. There were thousands of women to pass away from
this cosmetic. Renaissance brought modernization to cosmetology. Wear makeup was a need to
women. Getting dressed up is important to women and now men. In Victorian ages people
thought that cosmetics were inappropriate and decided to have rules.Women in Victorian age
dress to disguise the figures. When the 20th century came cosmetic became trendy both in U.S.A
and Europe. Now people use cosmetic more often. Cosmetologist are now more involved in
cutting hair and dying it also ("History of Cosmetology.").
Cosmetologists havelearned so many ways for cutting hair,
putting make up on anything that involves with cosmetology throughout the years. It’s important
to people who want and need their services. To some of the clients looking good is everything to

them. Cosmetologists make lots of styles that the common client would not be able to do it for
them self. So cosmetologists tried to make our skin healthier("State of Oregon: State of Oregon).
In Now days people are very fortunate in because back in the old days Chinese were punshished
with death if they wore any kind of cosmetic on their face (“History of Cosmetology."). So
people should appreciate cosmetologist more than they do now these days.
The
curriculum for cosmetology consists of 1600 hours of education. It is necessary to have 2.0
average or more. You would need your 2.0 average for your 5 classes to obtain your 42 credits
and then graduate to obtain cosmetology certificate (“COSMETOLOGY.”). This helps you get
your license, which will need to work at any salon. Even states need you to have you to have your
license to work in a salon ("U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.”). Cosmetologists also need to
provide information to the client. They also need to know how to move objects. They usually
provide shampooing, cutting coloring, styling hair, and much more ("Build Your Future with
O*NET OnLine.”).
Cosmetology has positives but it also has its negatives like shampoo. Some shampoos
contain chemicals that can be dangerous to if swallowed or eaten (Sutherland, Louise.).
Shampoos have their side affect also they may cause scalp problems if not use in a proper way or
used on the wrong hair type. If the shampoo say “forsensitive skin only" it should only be for
sensitive skin. Some shampoos contain chemicals such as conditioner, thickeners, and much more
(“DermNet NZ.”). Another negative is that the chemicals that some shampoos contain do harm to
the environment. A positive is that shampoo can treat damage hair sometimes.
In the conclusion of my research paper I found that the study cosmetology is a great

choice of career for me because I like to be artistic and I like to talk a lot to people too so that
helps. I know that it takes hard work to get good in the cosmetology business, but I know I can do
it. Based on what I learn about cosmetologist; I would recommend people who are not afraid to
take chances and like to persevere through life.
